Status: offline 		Both films, like all films, contain fictional parts to excite the audiences. Casualty figures and numbers involved though are pretty accurate.

No I get irritated with some Enlish posterswho go back and forth between telling us that since we are a younger country we should listen to them and telling us that our system is too old and set in it's ways.
I get irritated with forginers saying all Americans who don't tow the line are unevolved and selfish.

but I don't like arrogent people who insist that anyone who disagrees with them are at best ignorant.
That said I have a great deal of respect for the British and for thier traditions I just don't like being talked down too.

as I have told you before Hollywood uses some British actors as brilliant villians but they almost always use southerners as dumb villians;

Sean Connery was typecast as a villian wasn't he.

Yep.

Heads up: we don't care. We just don't care. All that just dissolves into old and boring history for us. Brit schoolkids sometimes ask, 'How did we lose America?' - but lose track of the answer. It was just one country amongst so, so many. The century before last, it might have mattered.

So the French soundly beat the English and tossed them out of the United States but refused to liberate their English occupied province of Quebec? Never mind certain other American former French possessions? That is a very interesting theory.

Rubbish. First the UK and USA helped Hitler into power. Bankers and industrials from the UK and USA financed him, one of USA's most infuential family named Bush supported Hitler into power. The second world war, just like the first one, was created by USA and UK bankers and Industrials to earn big money in the military industrial complex.

Agreed although I think that Zulu Dawn was more agenda driven.
The combat portions of both seem ver yclose to what actually happened.

Where would the North Vietnamese have been without China and the Soviet Union? Where would the Viet Cong have been without he North Vietnamese?

Where would Gandhi have been if the British Empire had not gone broke in WWII?

Nobody successfully rebels against the most powerful Nation on Earth without help or even a lot of luck.

Us Brits have a history, some may say a proud history, some may not. The history is there and anyone can argue about it anyway they want

America is writing it's own history, and doing it pretty quickly and it's up to America to decide what that history will be. You have no one to blame but yourselves if that history is viewed badly, it has nothing to do with anyone but you. Your past is irrelevant, it's how you behave now and in the future that matters.
I don't think that the current world view( sorry to mention the rest of the world, but it is important) of America is particularly positive, a lot of that is due to your insular nature. Your manufacturing sector is being crippled by the far east, your "wars against terror" are failing and your country is loaded with debt...... seems we have some common ground after all.......

Please try and understand that the world exists outside your shores

Status: offline 		I believe the actual comment was "Fix bayonets and prepare to die like English Men" I think one movie that really does show true British Spirt is "Ironclad" subtitle "Heavy Metal goes Medieval. Okay the title a bit but it is based on what happen after Magna Carter was signed. For those who don't know, Prince John got about 1,000 Danish Mercenaries and went after the Barons who got him to sign the document. The last few managed to take Rochester Castle and fought to the last man. By the way Prince John and King Richard were not English, they were French, Richard never learned to speak English during his rule.

TAFKAA, though you may not be known as the most bubbly and sunny person on these forums, you can at least see that sort of humour and where it comes from. For a Kiwi, that's very perceptive indeed.
