I don't follow them. People just stand there and continue to talk an talk an smile and nod an engage me and talk to me and act like they like talking to me. And as I said I can not tell that they are dying to get away or want me to leave them alone, when they're smiling, talking, and engaging me.

IF they walk away, i don't follow them, I am embarrassed and I will go do some busy work or something to cover up the embarrassment. Like go pick up some trash i saw someone leave behind, or go to the bathroom to go pee.

My dad is willing to hold the purse strings yes. We're working on a plan, and while all my cards can't be used now, because they're locked for new purchases since i joined care one, my dad did keep them when i couldn't trust myself.
Are you quite sure that you want to go with those first two paragraphs? I'm trying to be kind to you here.

Wait? You aren't paying your bills, yet you have money for 401K? This just keeps getting better.

SHE doesn't have a 401K. Considering she isn't working, that wouldn't be possible anyway. HE has one.

What would be nice is if some people's comprehension improved.

People who are disabled can't work ? Not hardly. The grocery store where I shop has young men with downs syndrome bagging grocerys and bringing carts back to the store. A good friend of mine goes to his job everyday in his wheelchair. Another friend of mine has one leg and teaches school. In your mind you cannot work..

Actually if you are disabled, most jobs have to take your application and try to give you a job. They have to meet a certain criteria every year to hire disabled people. There are tons of jobs out there available for disabled people specifically because they ARE disabled.

Ok! yeah I don't know how all that works. I just know he has several things that comes off the top of his pay check before he even takes it home.

It is a vehicle where you can save, without it being taxible income. The money in a 401 is basically taken out before you get your check. Death and taxes, that all comes later.

TFB can't work even if a million others much worse off than she is can work. She said so herself. That is sad in so many ways.

I just don't have the confidence in my self, nor do I feel I have the emotional or educational skills to work. It's not just that i have to finish highschool. I am so far behind educationally where I am supposed to be, that I am about a third grade education level. MAybe not even standard third grade.

Many of the groups in the Ticket to Work Program place people in jobs and mediate with the employer. There are MANY companies that love to hire people with handicaps of all types.

There are financial incentives for hiring people on programs such as SSI, SSD, and food stamps.

Then you also shouldn't be in a relationship with an adult man.

TFB there are many, many jobs that you don't have to have education for.

My mother who has a slue of physical disabilities (including being legally but not totally blind) and has a 4th grade education works 6 hours a week. She is the nursery attendant at her church.

Perhaps, looking into the Ticket to Work Program would be good for you not just financially but your self esteem as well. They will place you in positions appropriate for you and give you tons of support. You aren't required to work ft in the program because not everyone can work full time.

littlewonder -> RE: If I report that James lives with me, can they count his income against what i can make on SSI? (2/24/2013 4:59:45 PM)

At my former job we had a mentally challenged girl working in our office from time to time when we would get a little backed up with mail. She would come in and stuff the envelopes for us and make sure they were ready to be mailed. When she was done with that and wanted something to do we would give her simple little odd jobs around the office....get supplies in the storage room for us, take files up to a judge's office....things she was capable of doing, nothing that took any thought at all except where to go and what to get.

So tftb, it's possible they could find you a job something like that.

servantforuse -> RE: If I report that James lives with me, can they count his income against what i can make on SSI? (2/24/2013 5:05:47 PM)

She doesn't want to.. It's that simple.

Toppingfrmbottom -> RE: If I report that James lives with me, can they count his income against what i can make on SSI? (2/24/2013 5:05:52 PM)

Are there also programs that could help me learn my edcuation from the basic ground ups? I wanted an adult tutor maybe or something but we don't have the money for that, and all the tutors I know only wanna tutor kids.

My son had a work study job at a chain restaurant when he was in public school where he rolled silverware into a napkin for an hour a day several times a week. They offered him a job if he got his work permit. We moved so he couldn't take it but there are tons of places that will do things of that nature.

Yes, there are MANY programs that will help you with your educational needs if that is something you wanted to pursue. Many are open to you specifically due to your disabilities.

I can help you find local resources if you like or your therapist should be able to plug you in as well.

I would also suggest that you ask your therapist to have you tested for your cognitive and social levels.

littlewonder -> RE: If I report that James lives with me, can they count his income against what i can make on SSI? (2/24/2013 5:09:41 PM)

The places that provide group therapy for your type also usually have contacts with educational organizations that can teach you. You really need to contact these places that you were at before or of others near you that you know of and get them to help you. Tutors are not usually going to help you, especially for free. You need organizations that deal specifically with people like you.

They usually are listed as adult literacy organizations.
