Mom and I are going through my library and so far, I got 4 walmart bags for either selling or donating. One of the bags is by a popular New Age author and my plan is to sell them (I know that her books will sell...it is almost a complete collection). We are keeping the Gregorys', Smalls', McCaffreys' and a few other authors. This way, we can get the books out of Grandma's old house and organize them (I want to reread Auel again).

My question is that I want to get an e-reader. A basic Kindle would be nice but I don't know the capacity of it and I know I don't want wifi on it. Just something so I can get Gor books downloaded on it and read them without reloading my bookshelves. I have not even looked at other brands and just want to know the best bang for the buck.

Please hurry...my birthday is in June and I have hinted to my daughter that this is what I want...*evil chuckles of laughter*

Can you get the books you want (the Gor series) on e-reader?

I'm not a fan of kindles personally but I would def. make sure you could get the books you want.

I looked it up on Amazon and yes, there are Gor e-books. $7.95 each. Not bad considering the conditions of the original books that are selling.

Nook HD is the bomb. I just got one and it's like an iPad and Kindle combined. Great resolution, easy to use, Wi-fi enabled and just fucking awesome. I just transferred all of my ebooks from my laptop onto it.

E-readers are the work of satan!! the only way to read literature is in the printed word on a dried wood pulp medium!

Jeff...I can surrounded by paper and yarn! We cleaned out one case and even found found an old whetstone of my father's on the bottom shelf.

Even the dresser has books on it. I keep one book that I am reading on the bed with me, reading a few pages at a time.

With an e-reader, I can get the Gor books and quite a few erotic books as well. I know Mom will not touch it (she is begging for a laptop).

I was thinking that the Archangel Shakespeare would drop a two ton complete works on your toes actually.

From what I can see, the Kindle Fire is a bit heavier with not-as-good screen resolution. You can always get the Kindle Fire HD though. Same features as the Nook, but I think the Nook is less expensive. Mine was $150 for 8GB, but a friend caught it on sale.

I loved my kindle touch. (pretty much just an e-reader). So much in fact that I haven't sold it, yet. My husband went and got me a kindle fire. I don't like it as much, but if anything ever happens to my computer or phone, I pretty much have a little computer at my fingers. All the kindles come with wifi because that's how you download the books. The kindle is linked through amazon. The nook through barnes and nobles. I don't think you can download amazon e-books on to the nook and vice versa. (You will have to google this for sure). One of my favorite things about kindle is that they have 100 free e-books and they change on the hour. I check them daily or once a week and go to town if I like the books. This has allowed me to read a large variety of genre. Another beautiful thing about the kindle is that they give you a cloud storage. Essentially what this means is, you buy a book and it goes immediately onto the storage, not your kindle. So if you are like me you can literally have thousands of books, without taking up valuable storage. When I want a book I just download it onto my kindle. When I'm done, I just remove it and it goes back to storage. You always have access to those books once you buy them.

I've never used a nook, but when I was thinking about buying an e-reader, I did like I do with everything. I researched and I read reviews. (this was before the newest version of the nook came out). Everything I read at that time pointed to the kindle as being a better buy, and as having less technical problems. I don't know if this still holds true.

When we moved from the old house to this one, 15 boxes of books came out of my bedroom.

A collection of sci fi, college books, and the majority of the books dealt with history.

You can download pretty much any e-book and your reader can use it. You may have to get a program to convert some file types. Inbox me on the other side if you need tips on how to do this.

I get mine from torrent sites instead of buying them. I'm cheap.

Me too!!! I rarely buy books, which sounds horrible. I abuse the free e-books from amazon. Thanks for the tips. I'll definitely get in touch if I have trouble!!! :)

Oh yeah, I forgot about libraries. Most of them have an e-book rental program.
