(It's a gift and a curse).

I've learned to deal with it.

According to my niece, a very dominant personality, there are three universal laws that apply:

1) women are always right.
2) Men are always wrong.
3) If a woman is wrong see rule one.

I rarely participate in this forum because mostly all I ever see here is people screaming at one another, throwing up any and all statistics and "facts" that support their beliefs while discounting any contrary evidence.

*Sigh* personally I think we could use a whole lot more statistics and facts around here.

Is it surprising that discussions on these subjects get heated or downright crazy, no, fairly normal really.

People's positions on these subjects do change, people switch parties and change religions. But it's rarely an instant thing, we can't really expect someones position to flip over the course of one conversation, it just doesn't tend to happen on these topics.

People tend to feel strongly on these topics and may well not cope well emotionally with having their beliefs challenged, doesn't mean that the conversation is pointless just that it can seem that way in the short term.

The problem of course is that no one agrees on what is the right thing to do.

I contest that, large groups of people agree on what is the right thing to do. The problem of course is that not everyone agrees on what is the right thing to do.

Does anybody on a political or religious forum ever consider that he just might NOT know everything, that just maybe he could be wrong? I rarely participate in this forum because mostly all I ever see here is people screaming at one another, throwing up any and all statistics and "facts" that support their beliefs while discounting any contrary evidence.

Don't any of you self righteous screamers ever get tired of your own arrogant certitude?

I would suggest that your comments are pretty judgmental for someone who does not participate in this forum. Maybe a little mean and petty in fact although it may make you feel superior.

Most of us live with each others quirks and opinions and some of us develop respect for other individuals even if we do not agree with their points of view.

This is an open forum. You are welcome to participate or move on. Throwing a bomb into the tent from outside without having any skin in the game is not criticism that I welcome. Not much interested in your pontifications. I place far greater value on the opinions of people I interact with here on a regular basis.

are you getting so angry coz tha criticism hits home despite yr claim about placing value on the opinions of the folks ya disagree with?

least its hard for me to deny theres some truth in what he sez & yep i regret i played a part in disrupting tha thread. [8|]

I did not say I had respect for everyone with whom I disagree.

It is difficult to respect strawman tactics.

The fact that there may be some truth in what he says is immaterial. I question his standing to level the criticism because he does not have the perspective of a regular contributor. If he were a regular he would understand that people come to a discussion of P&R bearing convictions with which they have strong personal, social and often family identification. It should be no surprise when some testiness surfaces and that people sometime take attacks on their position personally. The OP's "holier than thou" posture is unwarrented and unwelcome.

The purpose of a P&R board imo is to allow people to defend their cherished beliefs and expose them to others as well. So yeah, we get a little rambunctious but that is what we have Mods for. Those of us who participate know what we are up against and accept the pitfalls.

If the OP wants to criticize he should become a regular or volunteer to be a Mod. It is easy to stand outside the tent and piss in cuz you know there is little chance your dick will get cut off. Just my [sm=2cents.gif]

Well see, I am a supergenius and hence I am nearly always right. But I do use a simple trick to improve on my performance: I only post an assertion when I am absolutely certain that it is correct; when I am not certain about something I do not make an assertion about it.

Out of curiosity can you name something in the real world (as opposed to logical constructs like mathematical tautologies) that you are "absolutely certain of". That's a pretty damned small list in my own head.

I believe it was Julius Caesar that first ruined the neighborhood. Think about this kinkroids, even that wasn't enough but when he took the army into Rome, that sealed his fate.

Soon coming to your neighborhood ?

A "low IQ supergenius" if I recall correctly.

I agree with this and particularly how people don't flip over in an instant. My only real problem when discussing matters with people on the net, in blogs or even at home in my rec room is that they are so set in their ways and convinced of their own righteousness that they don't even want to listen or throw out some meaningless joke in a mentally unstable path to humiliate or denigrate the speaker, without any evidence and without considering any countervailing evidence.

I'd just like to feel as if I ask the right questions. Maybe I am supposed to be crazy because I don't already know all of the answers...their answers.

...that would have to be mere genius. A super genius would...always be right.

I had an uncle who was up there in the 220's (I heard 280, but find that hard to believe) and he did have 3 patents. BUT, he was ALWAYS right and on any subject not just EEing. From the morning coffee, right through dinner and beyond.

Had to be a terrible burden especially when 3 ex-wives...proved him insufficiently right but wealthy enough for alimony.

See how well that worked out for them?

I'd say the Romans from about the time of and just before JC, would think it worked out pretty fucking good. But hey, we won't let our dicks get hard over the idea that we thought we were better than say...the Ottomans.

It is difficult to respect strawman tactics.

even more difficult ta respect those that use strawman accusations without substance ta avoid loosing arguments.

ya kinda did suggest all folks: "I place far greater value on the opinions of people I interact with here on a regular basis."

only immaterial ta the wilfully blind & ya did pretty much say he was wrong not just coz he doesnt contribute.

doesnt matter if he posts up or not. he can still read tha posts. tha truth is tha truth. yanno it aint all subjective bud. [8|]

i dunno what tha purpose of tha p&r is but a hint could be that its ina section called "casual banter". gotta loosen up.

misbehavin' being ok coz tha mods will clean up someones mess isnt an excuse plus tha mods arent around 24/7.
