i am a service oriented slave and have adhd so i do not intend to be disobediant i get so distracted form just my brain runing aroung my own head it gets me in to trouble. i do take meds but it is still difficult for me to maintain focus especialy when i get excited.
what i am asking is how many others are like me in this and get in to difficulties when just trying to be good and inadvertantly go beyond what was stated to be done.
what methods do you employ to help deal with the distractions

I don't have ADHD so I can't know how it affects you.  I do remember reading that Rose Kennedy used to pin notes to herself.  Maybe you can pin reminders to yourself so that you remain focused.

A string around your finger can also be a reminder.

Revise that number. Just got 14 new chicks and 5 turkeys.

While I have never been officially diagnosed as having ADHD but strongly suspect I do (it's a long story), I understand what it's like being unable to concentrate, especially while excited. I carry my phone wherever I go and write checklists galore on it, making everything a small step. The more there is to do, the less concentrated I am on something and will most definately get side-tracked. If at all possible, listening to music really helps. I've found that classical music works best for me. It clears my mind and am less likely to wander.

I have found this to be a great tool.

If your issue is trying to do too much in anticipating ways to serve, then be very concrete when you make your list.

I'm curious whether you were diagnosed as a child or an adult. Children who are properly treated for their ADHD have usually developed practices for staying focused when they become adults, depending how early they were diagnosed.

I would say though that if you find yourself losing focus fairly regularly, you might want to have your meds reviewed. A dosage adjustment may be in order.

I just read your other thread and believe that maybe I misunderstood the question on this one.

From the sounds of it, your getting distracted is not preventing you from getting the task required done, it's doing the task plus more.
If that's the case, then I definitely can't help you. No one has ever had a problem with me going above and beyond. I always try to do extras when I can. They're more meaningful usually.

The best aid you have is in your pocket. Set multiple alarms on your cell phone. Time to get ready to start, time to actually start. If you take a break, set a 15 minute alarm to get back to it.

Dry erase board. Write down the next five tasks. When done, take a 15 minute break or whatever, set the alarm. Then write down the next five.

There are literally dozens of books written for hyperactive kids that will offer ideas. But written lists and an alarm are always where you start.

For me it's not being distracted, it's being forgetful.

When I first met Master I was only in my 30's and I had no problems with staying on task and remembering everything. The moment I hit my 40's though my memory has seemed to slipped. I find it very difficult to remember even the smallest of things and it can get frustrating to us both sometimes. I'm blaming meds and hormones for the reason.

I have been trying much harder to remember things by putting things on my iphone with alarms set to remind me and asking him to remind me. I know sometimes he gets annoyed with it.

I wish I could give you better ideas except to say maybe LP could help you out in someway to keep you focused? A time limit or taking something away until you finish or wearing something aggravating to keep your mind on where it should be, eerr....pinning notes to your naked body? What? You think I'm not gonna use this opportunity to thank her for all her oh so helpful, sadistic advice to Master in the past?

I have ADHD as well.. Same probs despite meds. There is a delicate balance with the stimulant meds so, despite having them reviewed every 3 mo...I usually try to stay on my current levels. Ok, if you are anything like me the Post Its, voice recorders..don't work because it becomes one more thing to remember which of course you can't so it because one more distractions... It is frustrating because most people don't get the level of "noise" that is always going on in your head. I use it as the excuse of why I don't do online (which I am not interested in anyway). The one time I tried online play, I got distracted while he was typing & started reading something & forgot that he was waiting for me.

LafayettLady yes i was not diagnosed till i was an adult it took some time to find a medication that worked with me. the reacherch that dr amen did in sub dividing the adhd helped a great deal i am type 6 or ring of fire so named for the ring of higher brain function showed on the spect scan. this subtype works best with the non stimulant meds i take strattera and paxil the paxil doubbles the effectiveness of the strattera without the increase in nausea
as far as med review the meds work well up till the point i get excited and then i need some cafine to help calm down(yes it works backwards on adhd)

it sounds then like you need to go back to your doctor and talk to him about this. It sounds like your meds are not quite working the way they should or you might need something extra for anxiety.

Do you have a watch with a timer? or something else with a timer on it that you can carry around? Oh, here's one I just thought of that I do sometimes when I'm really desperate to remember and I really wanna make sure I don't forget.....I write it on my hand or arm in permanent marker. This way it won't come off when I wash my hands but can still be removed with alcohol or a scrubber after you no longer need it. You could do this so that when you look down you will see it and you will get back to what you need to do.

I don't have ADHD, but I can be forgetful, or give in to tangential behavior.
One thing that helps me keep on task is thinking of things in terms of goals or "levels," literally like in a video game =p "i have to complete objective X before I got o level 2 and then complete level 2, stage 1, 2, and 3, theeeen i can fight the boss." blah blah blah
it helps me keep things linear, rather than turning things into big masses of spaghetti in my head.

this way, if i get bored, frustrated, overwhelmed, or just plain distracted, i'll keep myself on task because there's a logical progression i need to follow.

for forgetfulness, i have notes, and lists, and lists and more notes.

My next question was going to be if you drank coffee, lol. Yep, it is one the first "tests" when you suspect your child might be ADHD because of the reverse effect.

"The meds work well until..." you definitely should be talking to your doctor about these breakthrough problems.

I was diagnosed with ADD when I was 10 years old.At that time, the only medication available then was Ritalin.Eventually, the Dr. took me off Ritalin because it wasn't good for my body. Then in my Adult years,I was rediagnosed with Adult ADD.Actually,it really never went away.It has certainly been a struggle but I have certained to cope with it.I take Strattera now, which is a non-stimulant approved for Adult ADD.It has helped alot but that alone isn't enough.Coping skills are very important too. That still doesn't mean I don't get racing thoughts because I do.Its how I respond to it now that makes the difference.

My oldest with multiple mood disorders uses a smart phone. I'm ADD, non hyperactive, more likely to disappear into a daydream. I use the oven alarm. You can buy small alarms meant to wear around your neck for cooking so you'll hear it if you're outside gardening. They're not that expensive. I think your local hardware store would have one.

$6 on amazon. http://www.amazon.com/s/?ie=UTF8&keywords=timer+on+a+rope&tag=googhydr-20&index=aps&hvadid=3212141547&hvpos=1s1&hvexid=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=8387746601185657139&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=b&ref=pd_sl_689uf7n1u8_b
Delivery to Alaska may double it though.
