The Killing Moon - Echo and the Bunnymen

the above is a top tune, and on my mp3 player.

this next track of mine could have actually been in the embarrasing listens thread, however, HIM covered it and made it a little darker, and rockier so i'm listing it as i like it.

Wicked games.....HIM http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4WA2jBMk-Pk

Where the wild roses grow......Nick Cave and Kylie Minogue from The Murder Ballads http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=__obh4w6tD8

Children.....Nick Cave http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SMv2vm6D-9w

The curse of Millhaven......Nick Cave http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DvnkTUbssbI (i find it rather funny in places)

I don't see most tool songs as disturbing or dark,
By the way for anyone interested, tool are touring
Australia soon and there may be a peek at a song
from their new upcomming album if we're lucky.

As for interpretation of tool songs...
I've come to see that like the bible, the meaning is
different for different people.
And I think, a lot of times the meaning goes beyond
what even the author had intended.

Ultimately my opinion is that the meaning isn't
important, Conception, Reflection, Reason ect...
Are what's important, and seeing that they aren't like
a plant that bears fruit. But like a seed from which
springs a plant, which can bear fruit, which contains
seeds.

Very cool band, you will see me at the concert, lets
hope they have "T barriers".

Love "Tyler"; and Possum Kingdom, too.

I agree with what you say re: Forty six & 2, but take the "wallowing in my own delusions", "learn to cry, kill and die"; yes, he's going through that in order to "cross to the other side", but to me, there is darkness thete.

Great song! I actually named my online journal on another site after it.

Rubberneck is just a great album in general. love me some Toadies.

as for "wallowing in my own chaotic, insecure delusions" etc... i guess i see it to be not dark because it is about facing that darkness to come out a better person on the other side. i think of the song as being more about the work and process involved than the actual darkness you have to go through to get past the "shadow".

BTW... not arguing that i'm "right" and you're "wrong"... i just like to hear other's interpretation of songs i love. and i do love this song.

Agreed; you have terrific taste in music, and show good knowledge

Yes! Wonderful answer

I would add Nick Cave's version of "Stagger Lee" and anything on the "Murder Ballads" disc.
"Chirstmas Card from a Hooker in Minneapolis" by Tom Waits is one of my favorite Christmas songs. It's so dark and sad.

Hard to think but those are some of the top ones.......luci
