SirKenin -> RE: OnTape:Rep Won't Let Customer Quit AOL (6/21/2006 4:53:18 PM)

Heh.  I can not imagine why AOL would not want to lose yet ANOTHER customer.  Is it because they are getting their asses kicked in the ISP wars?  [:-]

Actually my research indicates the pretense dates back to 1954.

i quoted You in my Curanderismo Yahoo Group recently and they got a kick out of this...

According to a guy I used to date who worked for AOL, you are trained at AOL to do everything possible to keep a customer from closing an account. He actually used this knowledge to get about 9 months of free service from AOL because he'd call and tell them the reason he hadn't payed them was because he was thinking about closing his account ...

Don't anyone think of trying to cancel their Collarme account .. that guy's working for us now ...

I couldn't cancel my account anyway.  I'm a sub, and I don't have a Mistress to give me permission to do that.

Yours,

No, it's not.  I'm on weekly conference calls with AOL and as much as it pains me to say it, they're still the ones doing the asskicking.  Their hardball account retention practices are nothing new.

It is one of My favourite quotes.  lol.  Apparently it is for a lot of other people too.  A search on Google returns a zillion results.

    That's one of my least favorite companies of all time.  And maybe they're No. 1 on the list.

    Well, in a way that is true.  They hold about 20% of the market share of the moment, standing head and shoulders over their nearest competitor.  I was thinking, though, in terms of the rate at which people are migrating from AOHell to other ISPs.

    HollyS -> RE: OnTape:Rep Won't Let Customer Quit AOL (6/21/2006 8:08:10 PM)

    This past May, PCWorld listed the top 25 worst tech products of all time.  Should be no surprise that AOL ranked #1. The only time I ever used them was when we moved and were between high speed companies - gads, what a nightmare to shut them off! You can visit the actual article at http://www.pcworld.com/reviews/article/0,aid,125772,pg,2,00.asp to read the fabulous commentary for each entry, but for those who just prefer the straight list, here ya go.  Gave me a snicker or two when I saw it.

    The Complete List of Losers

    1. America Online (1989-2006)
    2. RealNetworks RealPlayer (1999)
    3. Syncronys SoftRAM (1995)
    4. Microsoft Windows Millennium (2000)
    5. Sony BMG Music CDs (2005)
    6. Disney The Lion King CD-ROM (1994)
    7. Microsoft Bob (1995)
    8. Microsoft Internet Explorer 6 (2001)
    9. Pressplay and Musicnet (2002)
    10. dBASE IV (1988)
    11. Priceline Groceries and Gas (2000)
    12. PointCast (1996)
    13. IBM PCjr. (1984)
    14. Gateway 2000 10th Anniversary PC (1995)
    15. Iomega Zip Drive (1998)
    16. Comet Cursor (1997)
    17. Apple Macintosh Portable (1989)
    18. IBM Deskstar 75GXP (2000)
    19. OQO Model 1 (2004)

    24. DigiScents iSmell (2001)
    25. Sharp RD3D Notebook (2004)

    ~Holly, who remembers Priceline for groceries and the unholy Comet Cursor all too well

    stef -> RE: OnTape:Rep Won't Let Customer Quit AOL (6/21/2006 8:14:29 PM)

    They are adding far more new customers on a daily basis than they lose.  Last quarter, it was just over 4 to 1.

    CrescentLuna -> RE: OnTape:Rep Won't Let Customer Quit AOL (6/21/2006 8:44:03 PM)

    Hahaha, I remember getting away from AOL - I just keeping "no way, not staying, nope." And well, am not paying them for anything right now. ^_^

    smilezz -> RE: OnTape:Rep Won't Let Customer Quit AOL (6/21/2006 8:47:21 PM)

    *laughs*  i went with AOL when you had to pay by the minute.  Three years ago i decided to cancel my account.........they said they would give me three months free if i would give them some more time.  Sure, why not.......three months free.  After those three months i called to cancel......they extended the same offer again....and again, and again.  I ended up with almost two years of Free access.  I finally had to plant a firm NO thank you to them, thanks, but no thanks.  I am now AOHELL free.  yay!
    It was fun for a few years, it gets boring after awhile.  I'm glad i let it go.

    NakedOnMyChain -> RE: OnTape:Rep Won't Let Customer Quit AOL (6/21/2006 9:00:04 PM)

    I do not miss AOL.  Now if someone could talk my parents into switching from AOL and dial up...

    Seriously, I tried calling my parents' house the other day for something fairly important and the phone was busy for hours.  Apparently my younger brother had left himself logged in for 318 minutes while he was at football practice.  Lovely.

    CrescentLuna -> RE: OnTape:Rep Won't Let Customer Quit AOL (6/21/2006 9:04:27 PM)

    Even though AOL has lots of new members in the ISP wars, I wonder how many of them are paying members?

  • *drags gypsyssoul out of her corner because my sunburn hurts and I'm in a tiff over it*

    just because something is "influenced" by pre-Christian beliefs, doesn't make it "pre-Christian" ... a lot of my personal beliefs are also "pre-Christian" even though I consider myself to be a Christian ... would that make me a pre-Christian Christian? (gets a little confusing there)

    Wicca, as an actual religious belief system in and of itself, was not really formed until *very* recently ... So, yeah, its kinda funny. Hell, it made me laugh when I'm all covered in a big ole owie ...

    OK you can go back to your corner now ... :)
