Chief witness in Trayvon Martin case lied under oath

(CNN) -- The state's chief witness in the Trayvon Martin murder case lied under oath, prosecutors say.

The young woman who says she was on the phone with Martin when he encountered George Zimmerman lied about her whereabouts at another time, the prosecution told a judge Tuesday.

The woman, whose name has not been released, had told prosecutors that she was in the hospital on the day of Martin's funeral. The defense then sought her medical records.

In court on Tuesday, the state said the woman, known as Civilian Witness 8, was not in the hospital, so there are no such records to be turned over.

Prosecutors did not immediately respond to a question Wednesday from CNN about the witness's credibility and how this may affect the case.

Ok. They nailed her for lying about the hospital visit. If she really was on the phone with Martin like she says (if that even matters) wouldn't there be a record of that phone call?

Maybe I'm being nitpicky but I don't think she has given any testimony in court yet.

In fact, from your article "Police said that as of that point they had not interviewed her."

Wouldn't this mean she hasn't been sworn in?
It's kinda tough to lie under oath if one hasn't been sworn in as a witness or even been interviewed by the police

That's some really crappy and ignorant reporting..

As for the phone call, there should be a record.

She would likely have been deposed at some point. I'd guess her deposition is what they're talking about.

I dunno, K. If they had deposed her, they would know more about her. According to the article, they don't even know her age. I'd say that would be part of a deposition. (DOB, legal address and other vital statistics)
They say 16 to 18 on the night in question.

I vote for crappy, breathless reporting designed to boost ratings and get people in an uproar.

I don't know either, of course, but it was the Martin family's attorney who said that the witness was 16 years old. If she was asked and confirmed that under oath, it will be yet another black mark against her credibility. People have been prejudging this case from the very start. I hope we're not going to go there again.

I dont see what she was doing on the day of the funeral as having any relevance at all.. why would anyone even ask that question? There could be any number of reasons why she wasnt there, which are really no one elses business but hers.. So cuz she didnt go, she didnt show the "correct" amount of grief? [8|]

You don't see why lying under oath should matter? Seriously?

My understanding is that she gave sworn statement(s).

It didn't seem to matter for Bill Clinton either.

It also didn't seem to matter for any Democrat who was a Senator during Bill Clinton's Impeachment hearing -- despite irrefuted evidence that Bill Clinton had lied under oath to two different Judges and the DoJ's Special Prosecutor, not one Democratic Senator voted guilty on either of the two "Article of Perjury" or the "Article of Obstruction of Justice".

Creepy old man chasing teenage kid at night. I wonder why he was scared. Lmao. Ps:I am not vanilla

DaddySatyr -> RE: Witness lied under oath in Trayvon Martin case (3/7/2013 7:49:16 AM)

If the witness was deposed, it was under oath. If there was a statement, under oath, that was false, the defense has all the ammunition they need to discredit that particular witness .

From what I've read, this witness is the most damning one to Zimmerman so if the witness can be shown to have a "fluid" relationship with truth under oath, that just may be the ballgame.

Peace and comfort,

Michael

If a blowjob is 'high crimes' then the teabaggers should shoot themselves, and save us the cost.

Hey now, it's polite to teabag. I applaud the republicans for "coming out".
