Annual overshoot.

I have repeatedly done the same thing. Neglected to reduce the calories when the weather sends me indoors for a few months. Last year I shot up to 165. Enough to make it difficult to move. It has been very difficult to learn, and retain, this lesson. Were I not the type to perform stupid tricks all Summer while forgetting to eat, I would have a problem. It isn't too hard to see where people can get in trouble. But I agree it is hard to see how they can avoid feeling it.

P.S. If you don't own a bike...

I like thick curvy women. But I've often seen women who are simply obese use the terms thick and curvy. There is a difference.

Slight derail but where I come from 'thick' means 'stupid'. I have to do a mind-flip every time I hear someone describing a 'thick and curvy' woman. My brain thinks 'that's a bit mean!'

Unless of course you do have a thing for stupid people... takes all sorts as they say!

Haha, that's funny. Never heard it used like that.

i too wondered at your use of thick. here it's quite the insult for stupid. thickheaded is also someone refusing to see sense.

i'm considered over weight. i'm a size 14/16 uk and considerably fitter than alot of women slimmer than me. fitness and health where weight is concerned is subjective. i'm afraid i'm not going to be dictated to by someone who throws a figure out there that i should be for my height according to them. the most used method for working out someone's bmi is a crock of crap. it can give totally the wrong outcome because it's not taking into account muscle mass as part of weight.

for example; at 5'6 i used to be a uk size 8 when younger. one of the girls i work with is a size 8 and weights just over 8.7st. we are roughly the same height, and yet i weighed 10.4st. chances are though that she carries more fat than i ever did because i was a runner, cyclist, swimmer, and horse rider while she does bugga all. i've always carried alot of muscle, and put muscle mass on easily. i know i have to stick to a high protein diet rather than carbs to keep the weight off.

i've always been curvy as i have an hour glass figure and carry my weight evenly over all of my body. i've just lost some weight i had put back on, but that's because i've not eaten much for the last 5 weeks....mostly much less than 1000 calories a day. due to a health problem i have spent years dieting to try and maintain my weight, but actually putting it on still. it's soul destroying to have to constantly battle with weight. for the exercise i do and everything else i do i'm supposed to need 2500 callories a day. however, i put weight on at 1600 a day. i'm perminantly on a diet and it can really get me down when all i want to do is eat normally.

There is a difference in being overweight and in shape, and being overweight and not in shape. Something that the medical profession does not seem to grasp.

If the weight is carried evenly over your body, and you are proportioned correctly, there is no problem. What I am talking about are the people who are overweight, and dont do a damn thing to keep a decent body stature. I was guilty of that myself.

I assume that your pic on your profile is you, and no you are not obese. Hell I would have a hard time saying you are overweight.

I think I get what the OP is trying to say.....it does seem at times that there is no "in between." I tried to find an av for another site one time that reflected my size, and it was impossible. I am not skinny, so that was out....but when I did a goggle image search of beautiful plus size women or something of that sort, most of the pictures that popped up were waaaay over in the other extreme. And yes....regardless of what my HDL might be.....if I am classified as morbidly obese I am NOT healthy....because my frame and joints and lungs were meant to accomodate that size.

And kudos on the weight loss. I am working on it myself, and I am finding that weight loss at 44 is very different from weight loss at 24....

OMG .. I see needles as shapely, curvy and beautiful!!!!

And losing weight at almost 47 is harder than at 27. 35 lbs down and about 20 more to go. Yet I'm in better shape than I was at 27. There is a happy medium in my opinion. No weight, shape or fitness level is right for everyone.

One of the puzzles about fat threads, at least for me, is what purpose they serve. Does anyone imagine that someone's relationship with his or her body--a complex tangle for each of us--is going to change based on a stranger's Internet post?

When I first met Master 7 years ago, I was a size 0 or 12 in childrens clothing. I'm 5'3" just to give a better picture. We both thought I looked pretty hot. And I wasn't unhealthy at all. I was healthier then than I have been in my entire life including now. Now I'm a size 6 and not thrilled one tiny bit about it. I'm not under or over but I can definitely feel the difference. I feel the extra weight that I'm hauling around and it ain't so fun.

So while you may think those size 0 girls are unhealthy, not all of them are. It's just what yourself perceive in such women because you don't find them personally attractive.

Maybe... it is a reminder of what problems, both physically and mentally, obesity can cause….These reminders may stimulate change.

I am not and I do not think the op is talking about people that are a few pounds overweight. In fact research as shown a few extra pounds increases life expectancy. I am talking about people where their extra pounds are causing them health problems.

It is an epidemic in America and it is one of the reasons for high health care costs. Sticking our heads in the sand does no one any good. If you care for people and their health you say something...even if it hurts. And this goes for too little weight as well.

As someone who's struggled with obesity all my life, I have to disagree on this. Vigorously.

Well-meaning comments even from loving people only soured my feelings about myself and my body, eroding both my confidence and the energy needed to shed weight. They also aroused the defiance that can be a key factor in addictive behavior such as compulsive eating. (I should probably stress that I'm not blaming others for my weight. But I do think caring folks misguidedly made things worse.)

It's no accident, I firmly believe, that my first success at weight loss came when I went off to college--away from all those "helpers"--and took ownership of my body and my health in a way I'd never done before.

You recognized your problem and addressed it. You do not and did not have your head in the sand. But you recognized your problem by the reactions of those around you over the years...love ones are not.

I think you are putting your head in the sand however when it came to the effect on your desire to loose weight by the comments of those that love you.

But of course I do not know and it is only an opinion…but none the less I am glad you have come to grips with your weight problem however it came about.

I do understand the soured feeling about your self image and the problems good intentions caused but I do think in the end it was just the necessary path you had to follow. Without the input from those you love you may have went a different and less successful way.
