I have been following this prophesy since the early 1970s when I first read about it. I think the prophesy is remarkable although some of the descriptions are extremely vague or seem not to have come to pass. If this prophesy was published in 1950 it would be remarkable let alone in 1588 or in the 1100s. In retrospect the John Paul II identification says "from the toil of the sun." The descriptions are not meant to be understandable until after they come to pass. From what I read John Paul II was born and died on days where there were solar eclipses validating the prediction. John Paul I was identified as from the crescent moon. The interpretation after was that Venice where he was from is shaped like a crescent. There was one pope who had olives in his coat of arms, I don't credit that as very prophetic but it did have a link. I don't see anyway to read the solar eclipse as anything but a clear sign. IMO The Mayan 2012 calendar end of the world discussion is a little similar. Who knows if it is just the last prophesy. I don't belive in end of the world predictions but I do give credit to the Malachy prophesy.

The new pope is basically an extension of the Christian Taliban What else is new? The best we can hope for out of the Vatican is that he will finally (after 1000 years) come down on clergy that assrapes children.

You titled this thread "the final pope" I hope so, cause there is more of the world not catholic then is, and really how many old men are going to cover up the sexual abuses of and outdated system?

I don't belive in end of the world predictions but I do give credit to the Malachy prophesy. What use is a 'prophecy' that is indecipherable until after the event it is supposed to predict? How is this any different from claiming to be able to predict the result of a horse race after the race has been run? (My uncle, who enjoys a flutter despite being a life long loser at betting on horses, has a 100% success rate in picking winners after the race is over. Who wouldn't have? ) Of course prophecies become much easier to believe in if one is prepared to discount "the descriptions [that] are extremely vague or seem not to have come to pass" and only accept the evidence that (it is claimed) validates the prophecy after the fact. Especially when connections as tenuous (or, if you prefer, as ridiculous) as those outlined in the post are claimed to validate the prophecy. What a load of hogwash! The Harry Potter tales are more credible.

Ever read some of the prophesies of Nostradamus that reputedly predicted the twin towers, that forsaw saddam hussein as leading the war of the anti christ and so forth? Or how they go backwards to show how Nostradamus 'predicted' all these world events, not really hard given how many quatrains he wrote and how unclear they are...(the story claims that he wrote that to avoid the inquisition)....... There are probably some positives with this guy, but there are questions about him. He seems to care more about taking care of the poor and powerless then dogma, so maybe they won't be attacking nuns for helping the poor and not yelling about gay marriage. On the other hand, his role in argentina in the military rule there, where 10's of thousands of people were murdered or disappeared (drugged and dropped off helicopters to drown in the sea was a common tactic),and where plenty of clergy and higher ups have been accused and convicted of supporting the Junta, and his role i not all that clear. He does seem humble, no more prada shoes and such it seems...and he is telling the other vatican parasites to clean up their act. He is no liberal, though, he is outspoken against gay marriage (fat good it did him, Argentina legalized it, also has incredible laws protecting trans people), and is not exactly going to welcome married priests or women...... I am no Catholic, and I don't exactly have much respect for it, I quite honestly don't understand how so many can belong to a church they so strongly disagree with the leadership on basic things, but there is an old joke that comes to mind. There is this woman who stands outside the local cathedral every day with a sign saying "May God strike down the Catholic Church, it is evil". One day the lowest level priest there goes to talk to the woman, and he asks her why she wants to try destroying the church, and he quips "After all, the vatican has been trying to destroy it for 2000 years, and has failed"
