subspaceseven -> Ohhh Noooo seems the GOP is supporting a Candian for President (3/20/2013 5:41:20 AM)

It seems the flavor of the month for the GOP (Ted Cruz) has a bit of a problem for becoming President, ...cause he was not born in this country as Fox News questions him about it. Though I think his chances for ever being the front runner where slim to none, it is interesting to see how he responds and how he defines his right to be President.

"Are you eligible to run for president? You were born in Canada," Hannity asked.

Cruz attempted to downplay the question and turned to his work "defending the Constitution" in the Senate.

But Hannity went on to note that while while Cruz was born in Canada to a Cuban father, Cruz's mother was a U.S. citizen, which led Cruz to agree that he was, in fact, a U.S. "citizen by birth."

Under the Constitution, eligibility for holding the office of the president requires the candidate to be a "natural-born" citizen. So being born on foreign soil, with a mother who is a US citizen now makes you a citizen. Seems they made the choice not to have him born here, perhaps they had no health care in the USA and just wanted to use the health care system in Canada.

Huh, strange how someone not born in the USA can be a "citizen by birth" according to the right, but this rule of thought does not work if you are on the other side of the aisle.

1, Unlike the left media, who ignored Obama's circumstance of citizenship, we're three years out of 2016 and the right is already vetting potential candidates.

2, Sounds like Cruz is just as eligible as our great President, Mr Obama, and our lovable VP, Mr Biden.

3, It would be really ironic and hypocritical for the same people who dismissed birthers and the lunatic fringe, to join the same fringe now the the potential candidate is in the opposition party.

You don't have a clue, do you.

In many circumstances, even though a child is born outside the United States, if at least one parent was a U.S. citizen at the time of the child's birth, the child automatically "acquires" citizenship... The laws governing whether or not a child born outside of the United States acquires U.S. citizenship from parents have changed several times. These laws differ for the following time periods:

• prior to May 24, 1934
• May 25, 1934 to January 12, 1941
• January 13, 1941 to December 23, 1952
• December 24, 1952 to November 13, 1986, and
• November 14, 1986 to present.

This form of citizenship differs from a Natural Born Citizen.

~FR

Rafael Edward "Ted" Cruz (born December 22, 1970)

Barack Hussein Obama II ( born August 4, 1961)

Between 12/24/1952 and 11/13/1986

If both parents are U.S. citizens, at least one resided in the U.S. before the child’s birth.

If one parent is a U.S. citizen, the U.S. citizen parent must have resided in the U.S. for 10 years, at least 5 of which were after age 14.

Same rules apply to both gentlemen.

Lucylastic -> RE: Ohhh Noooo seems the GOP is supporting a Candian for President (3/20/2013 6:39:10 AM)

LOL but that hasnt stopped SOOOOmany of the birthers who ignored Obamas mothers citizenship, and still do even to this day.
Getting a right ol laugh out of this at the hypocrisy Im reading elsewhere.
Without all the bullshit about kenya... and his dad being a kenyan, and so on...

IMNSHO
Ted Cruz has more chance of becoming the popes third wife than getting to the presidency nomination But it has nothing to do with his parentage or place of birth.

To be a natural born citizen, both parents must be citizens. If both parents are citizens and the child is born abroad, at least one of the citizen parents must have have previously resided in the United States or its territories.

Of course, there's always the claim that Obama's real father was Frank Marshall Davis. [:)]

My question is "Of what possible relevance is this to the governance of a country which is in deep, deep trouble?" I don't really understand how passing around the red/blue kool-aid really helps anything. I'm more interested in looking at issues. I have no interest in treating the race for power in the US like it's a reality TV series.

Umm "the media" did NOT ignore the issue.....it was fully vetted and dealt with....

We were ignoring the weirdo-bigots and rightist-clowns about the time they became boring....

You cons are way to F`n gullible to realize that these little trips into insanity ya`ll take will eventually blow back at you....

subspaceseven -> RE: Ohhh Noooo seems the GOP is supporting a Candian for President (3/20/2013 7:20:06 AM)

It has more to do with the BS of the right than anything..... What they claim is correct for the GOP does not apply to the years of birther BS they have screamed about when it was about our President.

You know like when Mittens in his speech said that at least he was born in this country, completely denying the facts of the whole thing or all the hours Fox, Beck and all the other loudmouths kept bringing it up

Actually it was FOX news who got the thing started, and as for being hypocritical let us see if the teabaggers have the same concerns towards Cruz as they still do about the President when it comes to a birth certificate and being able to be the President... Now if they do not raise hell that would be hypocritical...cause Cruz unlike the President does not have a US Birth Certificate....

Owner59 -> RE: Ohhh Noooo seems the GOP is supporting a Candian for President (3/20/2013 8:06:16 AM)

Really......

No US birth certificate?

How is it that the gop keeps doing all our work for us?[:D]

This is precisely why Obama would still be a "natural-born" citizen even if he had been born in Kenya.

Or the claim that his mother wasnt legally married.

McCain was born in Panama and was eligible to run for president. None of the Right questioned his right to be president.

Because at the time he was born his father was in the service in a place, if I remember correctly, did not have a hospital on base to deliver.

There was some question as to the legality of his parent's marriage.

One was they could find no record due to interracial marriages being illegal in most places at that time. The second being a question of his father already being married.

Many rumors have been floating about.

Well of course there are! It's all just permutations of birther filth. They'll never quit their raving even after Obama finishes his office partly to prevent any other N-words from being elected to a White Man's Office and partly in the hope that any laws he signed 'illegally' can be struck down. This birther crap will never end.
