One thing I haven't seen mentioned is that the sub may need a key for other reasons besides emergencies.
Chastity devices are not always one size fits all. What may be comfortable for a couple of hours could soon become extremely painful or uncomfortable later on. If the sub does any sports or physical activities such as motorcycling, horsebackriding, etc. there may be trial and error period to find one that can be worn 24/7. I can't imagine not letting someone have a reasonabilty accessable key for the first week or so until the perfect fit is acquired.
