Nosathro -> Conservative gun rights group goes after 3 Congressmen (4/5/2013 5:51:53 PM)

And the Congressmen have an "A" rating from the NRA. Okay I am not saying that all gun owners are phallus worshipping, racist, bigoted, paranoid, psychos but this group looks like it is missing some refried beans and a taco from their combo plate. If you know what I mean.....and I think you do!

From your link:

TV ads attacking Virginia Republicans Eric Cantor and Scott Rigell and West Virginia Democrat Joe Manchin falsely accuse the three congressmen of supporting a federal gun registry. They have expressed varying degrees of support for enhanced background checks, but none has supported a federal gun registry. Nor is such a registry even being proposed.

ACLU says Reid’s gun legislation could threaten privacy rights, civil liberties

a top lobbyist for the ACLU announced that the group thinks Reid’s current gun bill could threaten both privacy rights and civil liberties... it treats the records for private purchases very differently than purchases made through licensed sellers... existing law also bars the use of those records for other purposes...” the government is supposed to be barred by the Privacy Act from transferring database information between agencies without the consent of the individual citizen.

“Once you no longer need the information, you should destroy it. Information collected for one purpose shouldn’t be used for another purpose....” But Calabrese says that Reid’s legislation fails to include those "privacy best practices... it doesn’t have any of the protections that we have in current law for existing licensees...” Reid’s legislation is hauntingly vague about who would physically keep information about American gun purchases, but it’s crystal clear that records will be kept.

Huh...I'm not a gun owner, but I support anyone's right to own as many, or as few, guns as he or she wants. So, if they are all phallus-worshipping, racist psychos, what am I?

the wrench in the works!

erieangel -> RE: Conservative gun rights group goes after 3 Congressmen (4/6/2013 7:44:54 AM)

In order to get my job I had to pass 3 background checks--an FBI check, a state police check and a state child abuse check. I also had to be finger printed.

In order to drive my car legally, I need to renew my license every 4 years and my registration every year. And I have to have insurance on that car just in case I hurt somebody or damage somebody else's car.

So why is it I can walk into any sporting goods store and buy ammunition for my son's shot gun, no questions asked? I can go to any gun show and purchase virtually any gun that I fancy, no questions asked. Yes, I need a license to hunt, but I don't need a license to buy the gun or the ammo and I can buy that ammo even if it isn't hunting season. I can do so because it is assumed I am either stocking up for hunting season or I am going to a firing range to practice my shooting. In some states, I can even buy the gun in a store without a background check. PA has the background, but it takes only a few minutes. A few minutes, even on a weekend.

Background checks, registration, licensing, insurance. None of these will impinge the rights of law abiding citizens from owning and using fire arms. When automobiles first came on the market, all one needed to do to drive was show a dealer that one could drive it. Then the government--both federal and states--started regulating who was qualified to drive and under what conditions. Isn't it about time we do that with guns? Gun deaths have passed traffic deaths in the US.

so because you allowed them to infringe on you to the point they have their heads square up your butt rather then fighting them you feel that everyone should follow suit in every other subject?

They technically do not have the right to force you to do any of that crap to get a job.

As usual you people cut out everyone but franchisees

there are state nationals, legal aliens, inhabitants and several other recognized forms of existence other than franchisees "citizens".

So you feel citizens should have less rights that non citizens? It seems to be the latest buzz word on boards. as if they are the only ones that exist.

If your democracy decides that is the way it wants to live that is your business, why should inhabitants be forced into a democracy and live by your citizen democracy against their will?

Why would you infringe and trespass on their rights?

That requirement extends only to those who agree to your form of government where 51% can trample the 49% and stomp on their rights.

You accept being abused by the state fine but why should anyone else?

Oh and keep in mind that "driving" is a commercial venue and hence under the purview of the state, whereas traveling is an inalienable right. meaning no license to travel is required because its illegal to tax or license a right! (no troll under the bridge to tax you)

So yes you agree that you are driving I agree you better damn well pay that tax because you own it to me.

How about lunatics that accuse and slander/libel people with no bonafide evidence what so ever to do so?

How about those criminals of inequity?

Well for starters out of some 143 guns used in mass-shooting 107 were legally owned by the shooter.

What is your source for that? And, do you have a source for the overall gun deaths caused by guns legally owned by the shooter?

Mother Jones they have a few interesting articles on guns. And to continue on the subject of deaths by legally owners of guns there is Raul Rodriguez in Texas he killed his neighbor, a school teacher, she played her music too loud, Michael Dunn of Florida is pending Murder #1 for killing a black teenager for doing the same thing, playing his music too loud. I am not sure about this one Donald Montanez in Florida, he was convicted of manslaughter he did own his guns legally. However the Florida Prison finally ran a background check and found out Montanez real name was Rivera. A career criminal with a lengthy history including convictions for robbery. Montanez/Rivera had used at least 4 Social Security number and 5 alias. However Florida allowed him to have guns and even issued him a conceal weapons permit, despite even under Florida law he could not own or carry guns. I am not sure if this one fits your definition of legally owned gun and gun owners?

Those are horrible statistics, for sure. So, now, how many gun deaths are caused each year by people who do not legally own the gun they use?

My point in these questions is that restricting gun ownership does little to nothing to stop people who are determined to own, and use, a gun by any means necessary. If prohibition worked, we wouldn't have a drug problem. Remember, a paperclip is a dangerous weapon in the hands of someone with malicious intent.
