I've tried that same argument on every single fucking "mind control" thread that has ever come up with no luck so I sympathize.

Ain't it fascinating the way anti-gunners can't seem to look at a gun without thinking of a dick?

Oh goodie, can we point out the dicks in this thread ?

It is sickening that someone posting holocaust photos finds the photos funny.

The reality is that if you "simply must have that gun right now" you are up to no good.

So if someone's ex husband just got out of jail and called her to say she has 24 hours to get her affairs in order, she is up to no good?

Well, she's planning on possibly needing to shoot someone.

But more interesting would be why her ex husband has her phone number, knows where she lives, etc. since your implication is in was in jail for a violent act against her.

And I guess notifying the police of this is something you would find useless, even though he was incarcerated for his actions, right?

BTW, given your suggestion situation, I would bet she went and got a gun earlier anyway.

ETA: and her rushing to get one out of fear DOES make it dangerous for her to have one due to a phone call. Before you figure something else out, your suggestion implies a female victim of domestic violence without experience using a gun. Do you honestly think that her running out to get one is a good thing?

How very true. It's kind of like bitching about the waiting period. The reality is that if you "simply must have that gun right now" you are up to no good.

The principal concern with background checks relates to how information will be handled, and it's not just a "gun nut" issue. From a previous post:

ACLU says Reid’s gun legislation could threaten privacy rights, civil liberties

a top lobbyist for the ACLU announced that the group thinks Reid’s current gun bill could threaten both privacy rights and civil liberties... it treats the records for private purchases very differently than purchases made through licensed sellers... existing law also bars the use of those records for other purposes...” the government is supposed to be barred by the Privacy Act from transferring database information between agencies without the consent of the individual citizen.

“Once you no longer need the information, you should destroy it. Information collected for one purpose shouldn’t be used for another purpose....” But Calabrese says that Reid’s legislation fails to include those "privacy best practices... it doesn’t have any of the protections that we have in current law for existing licensees...” Reid’s legislation is hauntingly vague about who would physically keep information about American gun purchases, but it’s crystal clear that records will be kept.

K.

This is implying that the seller receives the background check and makes the decision whether the buyer should have the gun.

I have no idea where you got that from. The concern is the lack of privacy provisions. If records are not destroyed, the background check system becomes gun registration by other means.

Seriously? Record destroyed? The US Government? The same government that is spending billions to record the entire internet?

The only system I'd be in favor of is one that never had any such records to start with for exactly the concern you state. I don't want the government to know who has guns and what ammunition etc.

I'm good friend with a woman in her forties who enjoys shooting her dad's old M57 Smith and Wesson .41 magnum that has a six inch barrel. If she were a he I'm sure some dumbfuck liberal would say it's penis compensation or worship. It couldn't be because folks enjoy the challenge of shooting firearms well that make some folks piss their britches, or that it's just plain relaxing. It has to be about cock for liberals. For the liberals it's all about cock, cock, cock, cock they just can't get enough cock it seems. For liberals it all has to be about cocks.

I personally like pussy but pussy and guns doesn't really go together as I see it.

I used to think pussy and guns went together. One time I stuck my hands down my gun owning girlfriends pants and found out her dick was smaller than mine.

Where did I say he was in jail for a violent act against her? FFS, it's only one sentence.

There are dozens of reasons someone might wish to kill another person upon release.

As for restraining orders, I hope you're aware they're not worth the paper they're witten on when it comes to saving lives.

Police response? Gimme a freaking break. I once had a bullet come thru my front window in miami. I killed the inside lights, hit the outside spots loaded up and called 911.
FORTY-FIVE MINUTES LATER, someone shows up that isn't even fucking armed.
I was going to show her the bullet hole and she freaked out and refused to go near because there was a spider web.
Yeah, that'll protect me.
