Ge 5:4 And the days of Adam after he had begotten Seth were eight hundred years: and he begat sons and daughters:

If God created ONLY Adam and Eve as the Bible says, then EVERYBODY was related to them as a child, grandchild, great grandchild, etc... I don't think Abel was married as he was killed before he chose a wife. Cain, however, HAD to marry either a female child of Adam and Eve (thus, his sister) or a grandchild of Adam & Eve (thus a niece)... but could have been a few generations down the line and several times removed. At that point, with lifespans so long, it's likely that those people didn't even KNOW Adam and Eve.

The land of nod is not a literal place. "nod" means Wandering

I do think if there were other people around that God created it would still only means that Eden represents the first place that God created man, whom then became the direct decedent of Jesus Christ. [:)]

Because, Jesus laid down His life for all of humanity, so that we could have forgiveness of sin, and gain entrance into Heaven. That is of course if we willingly believe and accept that reason as fact. It was a huge deal for Jesus to do this. He struggled in the Garden of Gethsemane so much the Bible says he sweated drops of blood. Nevertheless, he had a purpose to fulfill and to do the will of his Father. Thankfully, for us all He did it.

The bible does state that all humans are the descendants of Adam and Eve. This tells you God was not creating anywhere else.

Damn!  I knew I wasn't human!

I don't think you have to worry, missturbation - I wouldn't call this an exactly "godly" thread! LOL

But even my elderly Mother (and she hates the word "elderly") who is probably the most "godly" woman I know, believes that there were people in other parts of the world.  Bottom line, the Bible just isn't a book that we can believe every word of.

OK.  So if the average life expectency is 900 odd years for a person, you could say that they'd probably have at least 500 years of fertility in there.  Since birth control is against the rules of the church, and probably wasn't discovered then, and since Adam and Eve are horny people like everyone else, how many times did Eve get knocked up?  I mean, holy shit, there's potential for 500 kids in there.  About the time my cooter started sagging around my ankles is when I'd look at Adam and say, "ENOUGH ALREADY!  I gave you 500 kids!  Aren't you happy yet, you horny bastard?  Go cut a hole in an apple and use that!"

Do you have proof to back that up or should we just take your word for it? Not meaning to pick on you, but I hear that a lot and I always wonder how that thinking is any more crazy then mine that says, you can believe in every word that is in the Bible.

Hey, even Jesus said that following the spirit of the law was more important than following the letter of it.  For example, do you follow all the rules outlined as necessary in Leviticus?  Because if you take the entire Bible as literal truth, you need to.  The fact is that certain parts (Leviticus being one of them) are outdated and simply don't apply to the current time (like the "don't eat animals with cloven hooves" rule).

(I'm not attacking, just bringing up a point.)

MasterC70 -> RE: a stupid question (7/21/2008 8:28:05 PM)

Mrs. Cain was most likely his sister.  His branch of the family died out at the time of the flood though.  Noah and his family were the only ones according to the bible who survived it and Noah descended from Seth.  There is plenty of incest in the beginning of the Bible.  After the time of Cain there was Abraham and Sarah (half siblings), Jacob and his wives Rebecca and Leah (his cousins), Lot and his two daughters, and Amram and Joshabel (nephew and aunt) who were the parents of Moses.  Some say that Lilith was the 1st wife of Adam and that Eve was only created after Lilith proved unsatisfactory (the 1st feminist perhaps?).  I don't recall ever hearing if Lilith ever bore Adam any kids or not.  One more thought.  Since Adam and Eve were created by the same creator in the 1st place shouldn't that mean that they are not only the parents of everyone who came afterward, but brother and sister themselves?

Aylee -> RE: a stupid question (7/21/2008 8:43:03 PM)

Okay now!

Why was this thread brought back after over TWO FISKING years?

DesFIP -> RE: a stupid question (7/21/2008 8:43:28 PM)

There's also a legend that Adam had a liaison with Lileth and that Cain's wife was a daughter by that relationship. However Biblical scholars don't agree with that.

Leepus -> RE: a stupid question (7/21/2008 9:20:09 PM)

truly what all the begetting in the bible all comes down to, is we're flipper babies, all of us. Many generations down. Some freakish incestual mutation. One big old side show attraction.
