An onshore angler caught a 10 foot mako shark somewhere off the coast of Florida, pulled it in from the surf line. This was after dark so it was probably feeding. Makos are sort of rare, they figure this one weighed about 550 pounds. At least the guys revived it and put it back after they'd taken the picturs...hopefully, the shock of the catch didn't kill the shark. And yeah, makos are known to attack humans. They didn't release the location of the catch because of some fishing contest coming up.....fishing for sharks......what a shame. No telling how many the yahoos will kill for sport. The guys I used to work with were all ex-Navy, and they said they'd fly up the coast in choppers, and if people knew what was barely a mile offshore in the water, they'd NEVER go back in the water again. And there have been reports all winter about whites in the waters here that have come south from the upper northeast waters. Personally, I think they are beautiful animals that should be protected all over the world. I loved "Jaws" but that movie was like a death knell for the whites. I would love to dive with one, unbaited and unprovoked just to see it up close. In a cage of course...I may be crazy, but I'm not stupid! And I don't think that was a tiger....they are distinctively marked, and their heads are more square. Either way, the guy's lucky the fish didn't decide to test the taste of his kayak.....no way would I be out on the ocean in something that tiny!
