LadyL, that was my first thought. How old are Olympians when they start? And how old am I if I remember seeing Tiger Woods play at two? It was on...Carson? Mike Douglas?

It was Carson. The later years of Carson, so it is not too bad for your age, lol.

All of this is,as far as I am concerned moot, did any of you see the interview after fridays round...when he was asked about being penalized ?
I think the parents have the raising issue quite well in hand ?

Shit,I would hazard a guess that quite a few parents watching that interview were wondering why they cant get their kids to be so respectful.

Right again... just look at all those Russian little girls that were messed up on steroids…lost childhoods…psychological problems later in life. Just do a search on prodigies on line and you may understand the problems they face.

For every child star prodigy you name who is a well adjusted adult I could name one who is not. The problems of prodigies being pushed into adult situations are well documented if you care to take the time to search.

Yes he may be one of the lucky ones who receive the proper support but why take a chance. It’s not like his talent will disappear if he enjoys a normal childhood.

When it comes to the Olympics, Russia and China have long been known for what we would consider to be inappropriate training for young people. However, then we have Kristi Yamaguci, and many others (whose names escape me at the moment) who really have not suffered some kind of abuse, whether by others or self abuse.

When it comes to the entertainment industry, yes, many child stars go "bad" but that really doesn't have to do with their maturity level in my opinion.

As with anything, we really only ever hear the "horror" stories. You don't often see news headlines saying "so and so, child star makes it to adulthood without ever needing rehab!"

I remember Mike Douglas as well. What was the name of that female comedian he had on regularly? The one who lost her leg? Tony something, wasn't it?

That's the one! I thought she was so funny. It was so sad when she died.
