Modern translations do tend to be more accurate, whereas KJV started out inaccurate. We still don't have good sources for everything, though, and even an accurate translation needs context if you're trying to get details (not that the details are usually all that necessary to get the gist of it). Not that I get how this is really relevant to establishing that NT times were more violent than modernity, or that OT times were more violent than NT times, or that there's a strong indication in the evolution of the text that the intention is for there to be progress over time in a direction that has remained remarkably consistent since the beginning. This, of course, is to be expected: when you're visionary, there will always be things your contemporaries won't be ready to accept, and won't even understand what you mean by. IWYW, — Aswad.
