Hilly,
I'm not sure how strongly I feel about this, given I've not been alive during any presidency where the president didn't have church influence.

Ideally, I would prefer administration of the state based on laws, good morals and ethics. However, having always been influenced by religion on some level, I'm not offended by some small religious practices within public places; i.e. the christmas tree, and prayer in schools.
I do get a little perplexed when atheists go out of their way to eliminate any religious reference within schools, but that is because I don't consider religion a harmful thing. Religious zealots are problematic, but crazies are problematic on any given day, for any given reason. M

quote:

The separation of church and state is also taught in 2 Corinthians 5:20 where the Christian is referred to as an ambassador - "Now then we are ambassadors for Christ." An ambassador is one who represents one country to another. He does not become involved in the government of the other country but seeks the welfare of his own. Likewise, the Christian does not become involved in the affairs of earthly governments but represents the heavenly kingdom to them. He is in this world but is not of this world (John 17:16). His work is spiritual, not political. His responsibility is to help the people of this world to give their allegiance to the heavenly kingdom of Christ
.
dunno coz arent ambassadors supposed to represent tha interests of their kingdom? kinda suggests bringing tha values of christians to tha state so i'm not sure.

Jesus was a revolutionary.

Absolutely.
Anybody who can read any of the Gospels and not think that he was a liberal social reformer of the sort that neocon fuckwits with Leviticus 25:44 tattooed on their arm would run away from screaming for Ayn Rand was either dropped on their head as a baby or their mother was smoking crack all the way through her pregnancy.

I remember thinking "that Leviticus is a real Mo Fo," after dating an intense born again person. M

You should have told him that Leviticus was Jewish: he might have exploded.

Self involved, freedom from having a conscience, lacking in empathy, and morals that fit her narcissistic personality is more what I thought. M

I don't need to read an article about someone else's impressions of my impressions. Unless Jesus himself came down and told me, Rand is not as godawful as she reads, I'll keep my own impressions. I'm speaking of what I thought of her after I read the only book I've ever wanted burned.

Sorry about the hijack Hillwilliam. M

I figured I owe an explanation for why I posted this.

There are a couple of people on the boards who are conspicuous by their absence on this thread who insist that because the words "separation of church and State" are not explicitly in the first amendment that there is no separation and the Christian version of Sharia Law would be valid if it were passed.

I'll play devil's advocate. Let's repeal the First.
There would still have to be separation of Church and State.
Why?

Because the Bible says so.

Therefore, if you are truly a Christian, you must believe in separation of Church and State whether it's in the constitution or not because it's in the Bible.

You know very well that we pick and choose what the Bible says to fit our needs/desires on any given day.
Hypocrisy is the order of the day when it comes to purists of many religions IMO. The loudest christians are usually the least christ like human beings I've ever known, with their superiority complex, lack of love, and lack of empathy for anyone unlike them. M

Because she's a "classic" liberal, not a liberal the way it's used now. She's a liberal in the same way that Jefferson, Madison, etc. were liberals.

No she isn't, she's a thwarted feudalist. Stop projecting your loathing of paleocons onto the other lot.
