MarineKitten -> ProDom hunting and being safe (5/8/2013 8:37:17 PM)

A friend and I were just talking about this, and it made me wonder. Do people who buy the services of pros know how to keep themselves safe, and spot possible frauds? Is it common knowledge? I haven't really heard anything about it.

I want to ask the pros what you think a person should ask and look for while shopping for a ProDom. Like what should they know to keep themself safe, and not get swindled by a fake? I understand that everyone probably does things a little different, but maybe we can pool the ideas together and get some sort of list. I think it would be a good idea as a resource to men and women looking for the services of ProDoms and having a clearer view of what they should expect.

I guess I wonder, why you think people need to worry about safe?

I have never met a Prostitute who is posing as a Pro Domme .. so while I suppose that happens, its not in my realm of thinking.

My own experience, as limited as it is with Pros, is that it is all about the fetish.

Basically, when I first started in the Lifestyle years ago ... i would talk with Her ... when she said things like ... no sex, safe, sane and consentual ... I started to listen.

St Andrew's Cross (check); whips and floggers (check) ... etc .. etc ...

What I encountered was that Pro Domme's are as picky about the client ... as the client is about them.

I met some Great ladies, years ago, and even ended up as the personal of one.

I feel it is about personal interaction ... and THAT is how you can tell real from fake.

MissImmortalPain -> RE: ProDom hunting and being safe (5/8/2013 11:21:47 PM)

Being "safe" with a pro is not all that different than being safe with someone else as far as bsdm goes. When speaking to the person in question find out as much as you can about the service they offer. Make sure there is an understanding of limits, money to be exchanged, and how well the person knows what they are doing. Most people into a givin kink know when someone else is lieing about what they know. Make sure that any medical conditions are talked about. Make sure that you have a phone so you can call someone if you need help. Real pros have no issues with talking to clients about any issues or questions they might have.

MistressLdyAngel -> RE: ProDom hunting and being safe (5/8/2013 11:53:36 PM)

There are some ways to avoid fakes or frauds... for example.. if you have a Domme come to you at your house... if she tells you that she needs to go out to her car to get a bag or check in with her driver.. make sure that the money stays inside with you.. otherwise she probably isn't coming back. If she tells you to shower before the session starts... again, make sure the money is with you before you get in. If you go to her.. check the area she lives in.. if it's nasty and run down... move on. Talk to her about your interests in a general discussion... if she doesn't know what CBT stands for... she probably isn't a real Domme. Ask her what supplies she has, if she respects limits etc.

Some do. Some don't.

There is no such thing as common knowledge. Most people have to learn the hard way.

I played professionally long before I ever got into it lifestyle. I tended to play at pro houses, rather than independent dominas, which makes it a bit different, in that it is an established business and they tend to handle things very professionally. With independent dommes, I generally found them by referral from people I knew that were clients, there also are some websites that people use to review dommes, which aren't perfect but they do give an idea. If someone has been in the profession for a while, that is a good sign, someone who just 'pops up' probably needs more vetting. When I visited independents the first thing I noted was if they asked questions of me, asked about limits, asked about experience, and most importantly, insisted I come up with a safeword (pro that doesn't is suspect as hell IMO, if you don't know them, and even if you do, still think it is important unless you know them really well and have played with them. They should also ask about health issues, like back or knee problems or other things that might have an impact. Usually, the good ones also talked about what they would or wouldn't do and what they expected from the client, too. The good ones asked really probing questions, and then built the scene based on that, rather than a laundry list "I want this, I want that":).

In terms of safety, I cannot think of a session I had all those years where I felt it was an issue, and I did some pretty heavy scenes. I did have some go beyond stated limits, not safety, but for example, not leaving lasting marks or other obvious things, but that does happen, it can happen accidentally. One of the reasons is I tended to play with those who had been around a while in NYC, or had moved from elsewhere where there was a track record. At one point there were a rash of young gals hanging out a shingle as dommes who did fit the hooker with a whip kind of thing, but they didn't last long, and the ones who did it after they got hyped up after Madonna's "Sex" nonsense, and wanted to try it, generally didn't last long, either:).

It is like any service, if you know others who have used the person, that means a lot, and these days with the internet it may be a lot easier to find out if scam artists are around. I think the most dubious path is Craig's list, if a domina pays for an add in DDI or similar things, it says a lot about her business, posting an ad on Craigslist is free, and doesn't say anything and is more likely to be a scam or someone who doesn't know what they are doing.

What she said. FYI I am in DDI.

OP - I've observed Pro Dommes at professional dungeons in South Florida and would recommend this or getting referrals from people one has met in real life such as in the local kink scene.

word to the wise, be careful of the young independent who may be new and just learning things and whose ambitions may exceed her experience and competence, and might inadvertently use you as a bit of a guinea pig to try new things out~

Although on some level I agree.

I have mentored several young pro dommes, granted while they were under my mentorship they didn't see clients w/o me present.

I see just as many "older" pros who do not know what they are doing.

Lol, yeah. There seem to be many of those. Ever watch "That Sex Show"?

SlaveSubtoserve -> RE: ProDom hunting and being safe (5/26/2013 11:33:34 AM)

will have to watch that show to see !.....what were they showing scenes of young Dommes doing wild and crazy things ?

and @LilSquaw, your point is well taken as such carelessness and ill-informed risky behavior oc can be and no doubt is done by all age groups of Dommes depending .......just that my personal somewhat bad experience in that vein was with an eager new young one.

sexybbw51 -> RE: ProDom hunting and being safe (5/26/2013 12:49:43 PM)

Hi Everyone -- If you notices on my journal entries some of the jerks on troll these web sites seem to find ME.
I have had " no shows" & "rude manners". But on the other side I met with wonderful gentlemen for truely
great sessions. I usually meet for drinks 1st then chat to see if we "click" then on to "play time" which only takes
place inside of hotels/motels. A word to wise -- please, please be careful -- you don't who you are meeting with
from any on site. MISTRESS PATRICIA

This is where our mileage obviously varies.

In my experience at various lifestyle events, clubs, and play parties I've seen more dangerous and irresponsible behavior from dom/mes and tops over the age of 30.

That has been my observation of it since I first came into the scene when I was 18.

MissToYouRedux -> RE: ProDom hunting and being safe (5/26/2013 1:52:21 PM)

With submissive applicants who have gone to pros, I'm always interested in the how and especially the *why* they selected that particular pro out of the myriad ones available.

Those reasons vary.
For me it's typically that I am a pro switch and or they have seen my videos and want a personal session. It can also be as simple as location, payment amount required, or screening process.

Charles6682 -> RE: ProDom hunting and being safe (5/26/2013 10:19:09 PM)

I don't really have any experience with "Pro-Dommes".Thats mainly because instead of seeking Pro-Dommes,I wound up doing Fem-Dom videos instead.Although, there are some similar traits. Both "Dommes" dominate guys for money. The only real difference is a session is private and of course, videos are on camera. The one asset to a camera,is that the camera doesn't lie.

I've been working as a pro for years both in dungeons and an independent and I have NEVER known an established pro dom/me, switch or sub do this. I have known escorts w/ whips who do this but eh... that is comparing apples and kale.

I have personally known pros who made the mistake of not getting paid for the session up front and the client walking out w/o paying.

I have also known more clients waste a pros time with booking a session and not showing. Which is why many require deposits.

So please stop trying to make pros out to the villains.

While I agree that I have never met a pro who would do this, I have to ask. If you don't know someone well enough to trust them alone in a room why the fuck did you ask them over to your house to begin with. A little common sense goes a long way.
