Has Israel ever attempted to conquer any of her neighbors? No.

How do you think they got the land they're sitting on?

As Edwynn has pointed out, that's free enterprise (and so sacred in America), rather than your government spending your tax dollars to prop up a psychopathic bunch of right wing lunatics in a foreign country.

I consider a boycott to be a part of free enterprise, too.

So, how will a private boycott of Israel prevent the U.S. government from sending money to Israel? I don't see the connection here.

If anything, you're making an argument for boycotting the United States for supporting Israel. I would be okay with that, too. Why doesn't the boycott include the United States?

Zonie63 -> RE: Stephen Hawking joins Israel boycott (5/11/2013 11:15:46 AM)

Besides, Hawking stated that he was boycotting Israel over its treatment of the Palestinians. He didn't say that he was boycotting Israel because they are supported by the U.S. government. That ostensibly had nothing to do with his decision to join the boycott.

FrostedFlake -> RE: Stephen Hawking joins Israel boycott (5/11/2013 12:23:30 PM)

I appreciate Professor Hawkings' leadership. I hope others find strength in his example.

Turning to address common sense. We are talking about the fate of about 14,000,000 people.

Supposing, for simplicities sake, the basic problem is, where are these people going to live in peace? And supposing the basic answer is, anywhere Israels' boot is not planted. The salient fact becomes, what does a house cost? I'm going to say, $100,000. Because the math is easy that way.

14,000,000 plus 5 zeros comes to $1,400,000,000,000. $1.4 trillion. Half that, if you figure double occupancy. A third, if you figure Mom, Dad, and one kid. $350,000,000,000 if you figure two kids.

Now, considering that we spent $4,000,000,000,000+ invading Iraq AND we plan to let Israel drag us into another pointless war with Persia, I think an honest broker would assert that we can afford to solve this problem with a checkbook. I'd like to emphasize that this solution does not suppose the Israelis ever become sane. It merely supposes the Palestinians be made safe from them. By moving the Palestiniens ...away. Israel gets to have ALL the land. Which is what they have been killing Palestinians since 1947 to get.

What do we get out of the deal? International peace and goodwill. A vastly improved reputation. Friends. And a leash on Israel.

For half of one years defense budget.

Now, WHY do we have a defense budget? And WHY do we have an ALLIANCE with Israel? Note that the answers to these two questions are very different.

The fact that Arabs don't help their own is very telling, but it's hardly something I could blame on Israel.

In lybia under khadaffy if one wanted to buy a home all one did was go to the bank and get a no interest loan...pretty much the same thing for an education or to start a business. It would seem that that is an arab helping an arab. That no arab country has given up part of their country to form a homeland for the palistinians might reflect more the reality that if they did then israel gets to keep palistine.

Anything Chomsky supports, I'm against; just on principle. He's almost as anti-American as the anti-Christ (Hillary).

Noam chomsky supports truth. Why are you against truth?

In breaking news, Israeli authorities announced that another 300 housing units to expand a West Bank colony were approved. ABC radio here reported that Palestinians reacted by declaring that the Israeli move was a deliberate attempt to scuttle US Sec of State Kerry's attempts to revive the peace talks. http://www.france24.com/en/20130509-israel-approves-settler-homes-west-bank

Oh, FFS! This is the shit I can't stand.

Where are all the lefties belly-aching on Obama? You want peace, all Obama has to do is threaten to cut funding and military support unless they stop the settlements and let them have a damn state... In 30days, I bet you have it. They know it would be suicide to cross the US in that manner. The whole of the middle east would strap on the big cock and get ready to pound their ass.

All the support the left throws behind him on every other damn policy, this should be a top gripe from his base. Instead I hear mild grumblings and crickets. Yet, with Bush, super vocal....

Aside from being more articulate and having bigger ears what exactly is the difference between these two punkassmotherfuckers?

bah a whole lotta nuthin bout nuthin tho i hope hawking has tha moral integrity to return his israeli made voice box http://www.aish.com/jw/me/Stephen-Hawking-and-the-Israel-Boycott.html

Why would he do that? According to your cite his voice box is not made in israel but rather developed there by a division of an american company.
•Stephen Hawking himself, who has suffered from motor neuron disease for most of his 71 years, communicates using a mechanical voice system run by the Intel Core i7 Processor developed by the Israeli division of Intel.
It is interesting that your cite makes the attempt to conflate israel the country with judism the religion so that anything anti israel ipso fcto becomes anti semitism....how convenient.
Clearly, Prof. Hawking is not about to take out his Intel voice chip, return $3 million, and cease engaging in scientific debate. With so many areas of his life impacted and improved by Israeli dynamism, his refusal to visit the Jewish state comes across as a whole lotta chutzpa.
...................
an attempt to destroy an Israeli initiative not on its merits, but simply because it originates in the Jewish state.
.......................
This latest boycott attempt to silence Jews has a long and infamous history. Hawking’s synergy with this movement to delegitimize the existence of the Jewish state is destined to prove on the wrong side of history.

Why would he boycott the palestinaians?

I asked why he should give back the voice box he paid for that israel did not make as stated in your post. This post does not answer my question.

It is common synonymous language for those who would try to conflate the state of israel and the religion of the hebrews. Thus any attack on israel or its policie's becomes ipso facto anti semitic. The reason is that hawking is attacking the policies of israel but the article keeps refering to his attacks on the jewish state...thus the implication of antisemitism. That some would miss that salient fact is quite instructive.
