My profile text states that I am here for the discussion boards. Aside from that, my profile is empty.
Even so, I've gotten at least half a dozen emails asserting that the profile shows I'm the perfect mistress.

I find this very funny.

So here's the question: how do you determine for your own profile the most expressive amount of text?

Edited to add: I am not asking how to avoid the unsolicited email that every new(ish) female profile gets. I am asking what people would consider the most expressive amount of text.

If I were looking, I would probably have three or four brief paragraphs.

Ha! You can't.

No matter what you put in the beginning, you will still have dumb dumbs, and persistent wankers giving it a try.

~FRing it~

My profile clearly says Im here for the forums and Im not seeking anyone at this time. Doesn't stop me from regularly getting "choose me" emails or freaky (and highly ridiculous) requests.

The amount of text you have won't matter if the person sending you messages doesn't bother reading what you've written. And in both your case and mine, reading clearly isn't taking place. When I was looking, I had a good three to five brief paragraphs about myself. That seemed good enough for me

You mean like the guy who is regularly emailing offering $500 bucks to burn him with cigarettes?

Oh hell yes, that's the guy I think! Which would be an absolutely amazing feat considering he claims to be on the east coast and Im all the way over here in the Pacific Northwest

I'm about a 7 hour drive from him as well. But he always includes he will pay travel costs. I am constantly tempted to tell him to send me a refundable plane ticket, lol.

I apologize ahead of time because my profile is hidden so no one can see it, but I have about 4 shortish paragraphs of text. I feel that I give enough of a general outlook on me with hobbies, etc, and what I'm looking for in a relationship/partner. I refuse to write about kink or sex. I don't get into much detail really overall.

Personally, I spent the first six months on the site with a one line profile. Something to the tune of "I'll fill this out later." Not only did I get all of the email that every new female gets, (this was before the spam filter, so it was worse) but I also got a lot of mail because I was playing publicly in places all over GA.

I think your target of three to five paragraphs is probably appropriate. I'm not really big on anything longer than that. When it comes down to it, a profile is mostly how people see themselves and that may not be as accurate as some would like to believe. I actually don't read a lot of profiles because I do most of My interacting with folks from the forums.

So here's the question: how do you determine for your own profile the most expressive amount of text?

Most profile discussions here are requested by male doms or subs. Here's a thread started by a femdom about her own profile. It might give you some food for thought.

Thanks for your insights LP. Still, I must be really unclear! I don't have a target, because I am not looking. I am, however, interested in what people think of as expressive, clear, and other good adjectives.

Thanks RedMagic. I read that thread and found it interesting. I don't intend changing my profile, as I am not looking.

What do you consider the perfect profile length?

Edited for typos

Even though I write as a hobby, I don't think a long profile is really helpful. Besides, most people won't read it anyway. As long as you're satisfied with what it says, it's the perfect length.

What do you consider the perfect profile length?

Can't answer that question without knowing what is the goal. Like everything else in life, it depends on what you want to accomplish.

For me personally, I've met a nontrivial number of dom, sub and switch women on CM and Alt using a two- or three-paragraph profile. On CM, I've supplemented that with journal entries to key posts here that I've made (or key posts made by people about me, after meeting me). When my profile was not hidden, I would occasionally get unsolicited emails from women saying things like, "I just clicked on every link in your journal, and you seem very interesting." So it's a technique I'd recommend to any quality forum poster.

On the other hand, my FetLife profile is one line long, and I meet women off that too. But it's a cool line.

So, the answer for me and my objectives, is, "Exactly the length required to be enticing."

... that's what she said......

I have had "Just here for the forums" for years. I would still get a few emails a day. I added a picture of Master to my profile and it has dropped to one or two a week,

Recently I put my profile back up on the other side.

It says:
Despite the brevity of my profile, I am not new to BDSM and do not need help exploring my submissive side. I know stuff.

It points out both my "snooty side" and the fact that I am not new to BDSM.

I wanted to say, I know stuff that would make your hair curl but that seemed like it might draw in some masochists. lol

If you have no intention of changing your profile, exactly why is this important?

Whether you are looking or not, the "perfect" profile length is how ever long it takes for you to convey what you want people to know.

I don't know what it is about my profile (& I just changed it but had the same outcome with my old one) but I honestly attract decent people..not my cup of tea but typically polite, compliment me on photos or ask about something I wrote. Maybe it is how long it is (as one guy put it...very verbose) & the crazies and the scammers figure it is too much to read! With the exception of when I first joined, I have not had the "on your knees, bitch", "you are not a true sub"..emails nor have I ever been accused of being a guy or a fake...
Then again, maybe it is the age since I am over 40. I did have a spat of about 3-4 weird innuendoes about my nickname being associated with k-9s...but VAA took care of them!

By target, I was referring to the target length you had mentioned. The three to five paragraphs. Not necessarily a target audience.

Currently, My profile is three paragraphs. I have some stuff in there that is almost necessity. I teach topping skills at various venues and do some mentoring and private instruction. Since some people automatically equate that with pro domme, which I am not, I have that in there, too. I'm also active in the local community. (Well, the closest one that we've got.) That makes Me a good contact person for those who want to find events.
