Great link, good review and a nice read "15 Blunders That Ruined J.J Abrams’ Star Trek And Destroyed The Franchise".

Thank you.

FR,

A number of posts were removed for being spoilers.

Hmmm....

I'm not too proud of some of my own posts in regard, 'spoiler'.

Some folks haven't yet seen the movie, and mean to.

But, I suppose it is difficult to get the point across by just insisting that it sucked. Let's try that.

quote:

Is sucked. It Sucked. It SUCKED ! IT SUCKED !! IT SUUUU-UUU-UU-UCKED !!!!

Nope. Just not satisfying.

And I might have strained my tonsils.

The new Star Trek films are kind of like "New Coke"... something decent but reviled for trying to play on a brand recognition when they are totally deviating from the milieu. I totally get the bifurcation of time and the fact that the new scripts are going down a different trouser leg. But, if the writers were actually doing something totally different, they wouldn't need to trade on decades long name recognition to be taken as good.

I'll probably wait for the latest one to hit the $5 bin at Walmart. The first of the "New Trek" wasn't good enough to put up with sticky floors and yakking idiots to see it on the big screen.

Some thing to consider.

In the Gene Roddenberry Star Trek universe:
Kirk was the youngest captain in Starfleet history ... after a mere 14 years of training.

In JJ Abrams version:

The rebooted Jim Kirk, meanwhile, is a drunken asshole who punched his way onto a Starfleet recruiting shuttle -- at the time of his whirlwind promotion, he'd only been in the academy for three years. Giving him the job is like sending Jason Statham to negotiate peace talks in the Green Zone. Putting that cowboy at the helm of Earth's humanitarian flagship is probably going to trigger more space wars than have ever been documented in the history of science fiction, even if the movie portrays the job as being mostly running down hallways and dangling off cliffs.

Now in any military organization, JJ Abrams version of Kirk would have been busted, discharged and possibly imprisoned for everything he did.

Think about it. Why did Kirk join? How did he get on the ship?

It's a love story against death, time, space and reality.

Bones and Spock are J. T. Kirks best friends. But he is married to The Enterprise.

He couldn't _not_ be her Captain. He feels her every sensation. That;s called "sympathetic pain." You hurt The Enterprise, you hurt James Tiberius Kirk.

I hate to do this but: it's exactly like a Master/slave relationship.

You really have to stop comparing the two. They aren't meant to be similar in any way, other than name and character. Have you seen the rebooted Total Recall? That is more like what this is supposed to be. Now that movie is a whole nother conversation, but it shows that a movie can have the same name, same concept, but completely different storylines. Keep thinking that Abrams is trying to fit his Star Trek into Roddenberry's, and you will give yourself an aneurism

The entertainment rumor mill has had repeated talk of Johnny Depp redoing Rocky Horror.

Considering what he did to Barnabas Collins from Dark Shadows, I hate to think what he would do to Frankenfurter.

Now, I am not saying it was a bad movie, just a bad version of 21 Jump Street. Was that show a comedy? No way. Would the movie have been better if they called it say, two bumbling cops who pretend to be high schoolers? You betcha. But they chose to mash the two together, and hence the badness. Same thing with a lot of those tv to movies on the list. If ya strip away the title, rename em, they would be decent

You sure? If anyone it would be Tim Burton not Depp who would mangle a classic

Funny thing is Depp got his start on 21 Jump Street and he took a pass on appearing in the movie.

Au contraire. I think he'd do a splendid job in that role. The real question is, who would play Brad & Janet? Rocky? Dr. Scott? Eddie? And my personal favorites, Magenta and Riff-Raff...
