jlf1961 -> We have a new family member. (5/18/2013 6:41:15 PM)

I received a phone call this morning at about 730AM. Normally this would mean that someone was going to die since it is a Saturday.

However, this was an emergency situation. A local pit bull rescue shelter had a pup dropped off in a large box sometime before the staff got there at 7.

Well, the shelter is at maximum capacity and so they began to call people who liked and fostered pitts in the past. By 730 they got to me.

I went down to the shelter with the intention of fostering this pup...

The pup had other ideas. As young as he is, he still knew how to use psychological warfare, and hit me with the sad, lonely, scared, cute, puppy eyes.

In short I went ahead and adopted him.

His working name is tutone. Until we get a better idea of his personality.

He won over the other dogs in the house, even got the ever serious "I dont play" Princess playing like a puppy again.

You must understand, Princess seems to think that playing is beneath her, undignified even.

Anyway, here is tutone

Congrats!!! I'm sure he will repay you with unconditional love and gratitude for the new home!

Aw, cute!!! Just watched a documentary today on pitties and BSL. Lots of places won't even adopt them out, preferring instead to just euthanize them. Glad this little guy won't suffer that fate and instead gets a loving home

Abilene does not have BSL laws, and I live outside the city limits.

And thankfully we have not had many incidents with pit bulls that were not provoked. As it stands, Tutone seems to have staked a claim to my bed, and the only dog we have that is not to keen on this rambunctious pup is the old man Buddy. As far as Buddy is concerned, if Tutone stays out of his bubble, off his chair, then everything is cool.

Good for you and the pup. Remember to get him fixed when he's old enough.

He is five months according to the shelter vet, so next month he gets clipped.

He is also very good with my 15 month old great nephew, which is good. I have a few pics of the two of them, but cant post them here.

In fact we may have a problem separating the two for bedtime. We have decided to put tutone in my room for the nights, and right now, he and Damian are laying next to each other on my bed.

Apparently, There's new studies coming out that traditional methods of snip sniping / age when snipped can lead to health risks later on.

Cute dog! Congrats.

I am going by what my vet told me. six months is the earliest you can neuter a dog, any earlier there will be problems.

DesFIP -> RE: We have a new family member. (5/18/2013 8:32:50 PM)

He's a cutie. That baby's going to need a king size bed, insisting on all the dogs sleeping with him.

I'm asking for the link to the article where I first heard of the subject:)

I'll post when they give it to me.

I am considering naming him "blue" because of the blue gray color, however I am open to suggestions...

He is too much of a clown for the name Conan...

ResidentSadist -> RE: We have a new family member. (5/19/2013 12:35:07 AM)

Handsome animal you got there. Congrats. Tutone seems like a fitting name for a blue nose.

FR

For not being a cat, he's really quite cute. [:)]

May you have many happy years together!

jlf1961 -> RE: We have a new family member. (5/19/2013 5:25:42 AM)

Well, since he got here, he has had two accidents, and one was my fault (I did not get the door open in time and he peed on the floor.)

He spent his first night in my room with the door blocked, and he slept on the bed.

Now since I sleep alone, I usually take the middle of the bed... Tutone decided that he was going to sleep nearest to the wall, and left me with the outside edge.

Now for the question that has plagued man since we domesticated dogs, how can such a little dog take up so much god damn room?

On a side note, I have been thinking that we might want to keep this thread going for anyone in our little, strangely dysfunctional family (We do have level and lucy to consider) who get a new addition to their household... or even post pics of long time family members.

Just a thought... I have noticed that we are very proud of our four legged friends, even if some of them are cats....

Oh, my God...that is the eternal question Im trying to figure out too!!!

I've got a queen size bed. I'm the only human in it. I share it with two cats. House cats...not lions, not tigers, not mountain lions. Big enough bed with plenty of room. But I end up sandwiched between the tabby, who likes to sleep on the side of me so his head can share my pillow....and the calico, who always picks the leg to sleep half draped over that is the opposite side of the one the tabby sleeps on.

Big ass bed...yet Im smooshed between two cats. The things we do for our pets...or should I say the things we let them do to us? [:)]
