mnottertail -> Teabaggers trying to insure a new feeble minded crop of youth (5/24/2013 7:19:31 AM)

Look, variable rates so they can plunge the next generation into bankruptcy and make it impossible to get an education, probably in the hope that they will be feebleminded enough to vote for teabaggers.

Creating the next generation of welfare patients.

That would be the progressive socialists. The trough is a plank of such ideology.

I await the denial by the progressive socialists of their own ideology. [:D]

Yeah, I guess they are hiding from being called teabaggers and have been caught out with the subterfuge of independant, so they are going to call themselves progressive socialists, since the name nazi was already taken.

That depends on where rates go after 1 July 2013. It could fuck those who take out student loans, or it could result in lower rates than where they are fixed.

yeah?  why?  what are the chances of interest rates declining?  got stats?  cuz they are going up.  This is a corporate welfare grab by the craven servile corpitulators.

There's pretty much zero chance they will go down much.
What do I base that on? The federal funds rate is presently 0.25%. It can't go down much.

http://www.treasury.gov/resource-center/data-chart-center/interest-rates/Pages/TextView.aspx?data=yield

Currently, 10-year T-notes are running at 2.02%. Adding 2.5% to that, you get 4.52%. Gradplus would be 6.52%.

Current fixed rate is 6.8% and 7.9% for Gradplus.

Rates will go up, and can also come down. Rates have not always been this low, have they?

mnottertail -> RE: Teabaggers trying to insure a new feeble minded crop of youth (5/24/2013 9:01:53 AM)

Yeah, that assumes a depression forever.

Historically, that ain't likely:

How long until they are higher?

mnottertail -> RE: Teabaggers trying to insure a new feeble minded crop of youth (5/24/2013 9:26:29 AM)

What would it matter?  Sometime in this generations college education.  Like I said, they are insuring a feebleminded youth to draw teabaggers into the fold.

They are skinning the wallets of the lower and middle class to give it to the corporations.  Plain and simple.

This will not make education more affordable.  This is why we don't pass the dogshit they call budgets or jobs bills.

every time interest rates go down the other side to that equation forces an increase in inflation.

Phydeaux -> RE: Teabaggers trying to insure a new feeble minded crop of youth (5/24/2013 9:30:35 AM)

What we should do is get the government back out of student loans.

Just like in healthcare, all that is happened is overpriced education rising at twice - three times long term inflation - and millions of students with loans they can't afford.

Private lenders put something of a cap on the process. What we need in addition is some kind of apprentice ship program. Allow the university to garnish 10% of wages for 7 years. Then the university is at risk, not the american tax payer. And it would teach the universities to make programs responsive to the work environment.

the schools are sanctioned!

they write out an invoice and send it to local governments who in turn convert that to a security against real property! (taxes for services at the end of a barrel of a gun)

I would like to see how schools can be separated from government in this country when in fact they are government.

Well, the way I heard it, if they can keep them uneducated, they can train them to be teabaggers.

Or democrats or republicans and on and on.

Now I know you have a special place in your heart for teabaggers right next to the spot you reserve for any airport bathroom activities, but even you have to admit that ignorance is not limited to teaparty members.
