<cringe> the ones in the dairy case are as gross as gross can get. To me they taste like pure syrup. <gag>

I love super sweet coffees, I like Starbucks too, but they are expensive.

You know how bad the "super sweet" is for you, right?

I'm currently experimenting with iced coffees. I love frappuccino but man, the starbucks ones are mostly sugar (I seem to think I read somewhere that there's FIFTY grams of sugar in one regular frappuccino). I also need to eat breakfast. I'm trying to find an iced-coffee flavoured smoothie I can have for breakfast. I haven't found one I like yet, but I'll post the recipe when I come across the right mix. I'm thinking greek yoghurt, frozen banana, a scoop of oatmeal, strong coffee, a few drops of vanilla and maybe a spoonful of honey, then as much ice and milk as it takes to balance out the texture. I just can't find the right ratio yet.

Some places have "skinny" or no sugar options... .

AND you can buy your own no sugar syrup:
http://www.torani.com/products/sugar-free-caramel-syrup

Make some extra strong coffee, add syrup, skim milk and ice and whirrrrrr away in your blender.

I personally love flavored coffee..............don't care how much sugar is in them because I only drink them as a treat here and there. Heck they put a smile on my face and make me happy....they go along with my positive attitude these days. So for me I say ....drink up if you enjoy them and if they make you happy.

This company has a variety of sugar free syrups...including chocolate for mocha. :)
http://www.torani.com/products/sugar-free-caramel-syrup#/products/search/SeasonalFlavors|Skinny Resolutions/page|1 Some are fruit based and would probably be better suited for fruit ices and such.

Some places have "skinny" or no sugar options... .

A couple of things with the "skinny" options:

1) The lower the fat content of milk, the higher the carb count. So, you're worried about blood sugar, lattes made with nonfat milk are worse for you.

2) Every time I've gotten a drink with sugar free syrup, they've tried to put whipped cream on top. Whipped cream contains sugar and Starbucks is even worse since they use the vanilla syrup to make theirs. It contains a lot more sugar than normal whipped cream.

To address the OP: Sugar free syrups are the best best and a little bit of heavy cream goes a long way. It creates a feeling of luxury. (Do not use non-dairy creamers, they're full of crap and sugar)

One of my favorites: Cold strong coffee, unsweetened Almond milk, chocolate protein powder, splenda and ice in a blender.

1 cup of cold strong coffee, 1/2 cup of unsweetened almond milk, 3 teaspoons Benefiber, 1 scoop chocolate protein powder, and 1 packet of splenda.

The Benefiber is because protein shakes tend to...ummm...clog things up for me. You can up the splenda. I like my coffee less sweet.

On the subject of lots of sugar, I bought loose tea leaves for Thai tea last winter and have been making it hot with 1 teaspoon sugar per cup of tea. Now that's it's late spring, I've switched to iced tea and couldn't get it to taste like restaurant Thai Iced Tea, a problem I finally solved when I upped the sugar to 1 Tablespoon. That's a lot of sugar!

oh yeah. Thai tea is loaded with sugar. I've watched Thai restaurants make them and I just wanna gag when I see all the sugar in it. While I love frappucinos I drink them sparingly for two reasons: 1. I'm lactose intolerant. I feel sick for three days after drinking one. 2. They are full of sugar and fat and again, I feel awful after drinking one because I know what's in it.

In place of a frappucino, I will order a plain cup of iced coffee and then pour in my own little bit of half and half and 2 packets of splenda at the most. That is enough to settle my craving for a frappucino. I might ask for a small shot of sugar free caramel syrup. I have to make sure they put no more than a small shot of it though because anything more than that and it tastes sickeningly sweet to me.

I like splenda more then sugar. That looks like a lovely breakfast.

I add a little cocoa to the beans in the coffee grinder once in a while. Make it a cup at a time. I might use a bit of whipped cream on top. The whipped cream might be garnished with nutmeg.

Careful. It gets on your nose.

(The secret ingredient is whiskey.)

No, but it looks interesting.

On all the posts above about using strong coffee to make iced coffee, I prefer using coffee that tastes the way I like it, and ice cubes that are made out of frozen coffee so as not to dilute the drink.
