Your question is pretty wide and somewhat confusing. I had a look at your location and I think I probably figured out the problem. I happen to be in Alaska and I presented at a leather function last year with some folks from around your area. Yeah, you're pretty much in New Leather territory. You don't honestly have the benefit of Old Leather where you are because it wasn't the same kind of culture. Which means, you are pretty much starting from the ground up if you are interested in getting a leather community going. As I'm reading it, your question is kind of two fold. One being learning about the leather culture itself (protocols, etiquette, etc) and the other being how to jump start an actual leather community. You can't accomplish the second without the first. (It's kind of hard to start leather events without knowing how.) There are tons of resources that you can find through Fet but to be quite frank, they are going to be rather far from you. There are plenty of folks who can recommend articles for you to start reading. If you hit the book list that is a sticky on this forum, you're looking for books from Dr Robert Rubel. You might also want to have a look through the webpage for the Leather Archives Museum in Chicago. Specifically, check out the "Women's Leather History Project" for your area of interest. Leather, in My opinion, is about living your life a certain way. It's not 'kink' and it's not BDSM. It's not something you just do at events. It's a dedication to leather traditions, community, and education. In your situation, that's going to mean a lot of research. Best wishes and happy reading.
