I am listening to 80s music montage to frame my mind in a good way.

This would probably raise my blood pressure.

I take a multivitamin, omega3, and calcium supplements on a daily basis (I don't get nearly enough calcium in my diet)

Calcium is ... VERY BAD. It may burst your heart valves. If you are not on a diuretic, I recommend to stop taking the calcium, or at least to cut it down to once a week.

If you are on a diuretic (also VERY BAD, as one will pee out essential electrolites and other stuff - like the skeleton), I do not know what to recommend.

Before you take the medical advice of anyone on this forum, check with your doctor. And high blood pressure isn't a do-it-yourself thing. There are way too many long-term consequences. I know you don't want to see a doctor, but this is one scenario where seeing him/her is important. Bruised face? - not so much - but life altering conditions - in a heart beat!

Actual when Brad was alive, ( he had an arm lenghts of problems) when his blood pressure would go up the Dr would have me give him water....which in turn I had to monitor because of his congestive heart failure. I would not say chug the water but just drink it in moderation to keep hydrated. Pahunkboy, after dealing with Brad's medical problems for almost 5 years I would strongly suggest you see your Dr. I know we had to change and mix up Brads meds every so often because some would just stop working. I wish you the best and hope you get a home blood pressure kit they are a great thing to have.

I am editing this to say NONE OF US are your DR, and they are the only one that knows whats best for you. They know all your problems and what will and will not work for you. Please seek yours out.....its your life your playing with.

That's crap. You absolutely need calcium. You have to have calcium for proper muscle function, which includes the heart.

He's going to pee out his skeleton? That's going to hurt!

Yes, this much is obvious.

No, tell him to go to the Doctor.

His medicine may be ineffective.

Why do so many try and play physician? People can answer medical questions like... how to put a bandaid on... how do you insert a catheter... Im going for this surgery, what can I expect pain wise afterwards.

But when it comes to medication and how to treat disease processes, thats best left up to the experts. I could have given him a list of home remedies for his BP... which would have been very foolish for me to do. I dont know his medical history. I dont know what meds he is on. I dont know why he is on them.

Im not a physician... Im a nurse.

The only advice he should be given is...

Go see your Doctor.

My neighbor is aware of things- she has a key- we do dinner every day....

Well others have said go to the doctor and you won't so the only thing I can add is make sure she knows what you want done with your stuff and who to contact.

She knows exactly what to do- who to contact- and my instructions if something should happen.

People also absolutely need water, not so? I bet that whenever you see someone drowning, you walk up to them, Jesus-like, and admonish them that they must stop screaming for help because water is healthy and they absolutely need to drown in it. [8|]

The problem with one medication is that there are side effects that obfuscate the presenting symptoms. He has eight medications. I doubt any physician can then still see the wood for all the trees that are in the way. I most certainly cannot.

pahunkboy -> RE: Ideas to ward off a heart attack? (6/13/2013 10:45:56 AM)

IMO Drs dont really know what they are talking about. Sometimes they do.

Last time I was in it was for 2 hours- looking up each med- and it may or may not do ABC XYZ- it was an all day visit- to pretty much be told it is all your head.

Rasciallymisty -> RE: Ideas to ward off a heart attack? (6/13/2013 11:26:05 AM)

If you are not happy with the Dr you have why not find one you are more comfortable with?

The more meds you take the longer it takes to get them all in balance. But your Dr can't help if you do not go and the longer you wait the longer it will take.....because sometimes other test are needed to figure out what you need to be taken. Listen I dislike Dr and hospitals, ( after spending the last five year in them with Brad on an almost every day bases till his death).....but when its someone life you do what you have to......other wise you are setting yourself up to self-destruct.

I also wonder why you are putting a neighbor in a position where she may have to be the one that is making that call for you? If she finds you unresponsive she has to be the one to make that call, when you are the one putting yourself in that position by choice. I understand having someone in case but not when you are purposely setting yourself up.....doesn't seem fair to her. That's just my two cents and maybe I read wrong in your earlier post, but that is how I read it.

You have been advised more than a few times to call your Dr., hopefully you will do so.

ShaharThorne -> RE: Ideas to ward off a heart attack? (6/13/2013 12:00:46 PM)

Sounds like one of your BP pills is no longer working. Schedule an appointment and do a CBC. That is how I found out I had gout and my thyroid was still out of wack. Now I am taking more thyroid meds and one for the damn gout.

pahunkboy -> RE: Ideas to ward off a heart attack? (6/13/2013 12:07:23 PM)

I am so glad I came back. I missed you guys!!!

searching4mysir -> RE: Ideas to ward off a heart attack? (6/13/2013 3:50:04 PM)

Go to the doctor. My mother had had a check up and the doctor gave her a new med. Two days later she was experiencing shortness of breath and fatigue. She was just going to stop taking the new med (it was for allergies) but I insisted she call the doctor. That day she was taken to the ER with blood clots in her lungs that could have killed her if she didn't call her doctor.

pahunkboy -> RE: Ideas to ward off a heart attack? (6/13/2013 4:02:26 PM)

Things have settled down considerably.

I am back to normal- whatever that is....

stef -> RE: Ideas to ward off a heart attack? (6/13/2013 6:18:28 PM)

If you're not monitoring your BP, you have no idea if you're back to "normal". Buy a BP monitor and use it.
