Oh My Gosh. If I agree with Bita, does that mean I'm piling on?

What the mod said about attacking the post and not the poster is the issue.

I get it.

Well yeah, I made that point, too, maybe it was even to you. Not sure; had a few posts nuked by the Admins. Including how I like your new avatar. Ruthless Chi! Or poise.... Or...?

quote:

Problem is, some posters take criticism of the post way too personally and then it all turns bad for them.

These "some posters" are all too often newbies. Not knowing how the system works defines their newbie-ism. And I'm at least one who can't and won't blame them for that.

quote:

Read all the posts where someone asks a question people answer their opinion and then, POW, they say OMG you are all so mean!

Nothing can help people who post expecting all hearts and flowers agreement from all.

Again, blaming newbies for being new. And I'm sure it's not just me who can see considerable acreage between "all hearts and flowers agreement" and the gang-bashing of regulars on newbie.

Focus.

While I will always disagree that newbies does not mean new to being a grown up, I understand your points

And I do thank you for the comment on my new avatar.:)

And I disagree with both.

Do we have snarky posters? Yep.
Is it always the same ones? Nope.
Is it always a newbie who is the target? Nope
Are all newbies the targets? Nope.
Are the targets always women? Nope.
Are targets seldom men? Nope.

TNDommeK -> RE: Mob Mentality (6/14/2013 6:20:36 PM)

I just don't consider it mob mentality when intelligence is involved. If a poster( new or old) is doing dumb shit, we call it.

tazzygirl -> RE: Mob Mentality (6/14/2013 6:22:06 PM)

I always call it, its why I am so adored. [:D] [sm=angel.gif]

The majority of threads, all on the first page of each forum, posted by a newbie didn't get anything close to the "mob mentality".

You're painting a whole group of people as a "clique" and you're taking the minority of threads and making it sound like all newbies get hunted down and skewered. They don't.

When you turn the logic arse about to make your point, it's no longer relevant to what you've quoted.

Referring particularly to your first sentence, I never said or even implied all the OP's put up by newbie's "get hunted down and skewered". But, THE ONES THAT DO, yeah, regulars piling onto a common bandwagon at that newbie.

And like a mob member would ever acknowledge their behaviour is of a member of a mob. Because we *all* know how cheap and gutless such behaviour is?

C'mon, all this "all" & "always"...! [:-]

Since you were there, you know damned well I'm referring to 2 specific threads, one of which this actual OP is linked to.

But yeah, what you said in the post after.... [;)]

Yea, we. Meaning if there are four of us that know 2+2=4, and one who thinks 2+2=jello, then WE are gonna tell em it's wrong.

Mob mentality? Funny, I don't remember any newbies being invited to go sleep with da fishes [:D]

Hahahaha... didnt think you would argue that point.

But as to the other. Honestly, if we were discussing a newbie who posted they were into..say... impregnating their 18 year old slave. No issue, right? Then you discover that said slave is also their daughter because its on their profile. Do you still not have an issue?

Should only one person speak out against that?

Should no one because its a kink and they are both adults?

In that scenario, I could care less what two adults screw... as long as both are adults and both are consenting, with the legal ability to consent. I would have massive issues with the impregnation part and would be quite vocal about that aspect. Its my field. if I and 3 others speak out against that part, and others speak out against the "incest"... is it still ganging up?

Who were those male posters who used to insist that CM regulars were much harder on men than women?

Baroana -> RE: Mob Mentality (6/14/2013 9:02:09 PM)

No, it is not mob mentality, because that is a phenomenon where people melt into a group and cease taking individual responsibility. On the boards, people make distinct posts with their names on them, so there is no hiding.

Bandwagon, maybe, but not a mob.

tazzygirl -> RE: Mob Mentality (6/14/2013 9:20:18 PM)

I can see bandwagons, at times. But not often, especially not as often as its being insinuated.

Was one of them the fella who posted on the girl scout thread?

DaddySatyr -> RE: Mob Mentality (6/14/2013 11:38:09 PM)

Anyway, as one who was pretty much the other half of the mob beat-down in that thread and in the "Need Advice ASAP" thread, I noted 2 points about the overall the behaviour.

1. That CM regulars (as a group) are often quick to jump all over newbies asking a question in the forums.

2. That women (as a group) are quick to dump on another woman.

I originally referred to point 1 as cliquey behaviour, even if there's no actual defined clique. One poster makes a sneering judgement of something the newbie OP says and then comes the pile-on from the CM regulars. Many don't make any attempt to even address what the OP's asked.

And point 2 is as old as the ages. Just happened (I s'pose) that both those OP's were female and it was mostly females putting the collective boot in.

Focus.

I absolutely agree with both of these points and I have made similar observations in the past. Of course, like you, I met with some of the people I was talking about "ganging up" on me (I mentioned no names but, swarm they did).

I have made the point of female posters getting handled with kidd gloves in contrast to how males get treated and I believe ladypact has, also.

Peace and comfort,

Michael

It's a bit more shaded and subtle than that.

First, if the "it" is the actual topic rather than (recent example) the age of the newbie asking, fair enough.

But when the age of the newbie asking leads to more judgemental assertions, affectively making that newbie the topic, AND target, not fair. And as I understand it, now violating the TOS, btw. Can't tell you how I know, just that too many of my posts in response have gone MIA. [;)]

Anyway, when those numerous, independent individuals go from expressing a common theme to just plain spewing insults at that newbie OP, not fair. And a mob mentality is well under way....

Next phase is when they feed off each other's now idiotic assertions and insults etc and thus push the vitriolic envelope to fever pitch.

Finally, word gets around that there's a feeding frenzy on and in come the driveby's with no pretense of knowing or even caring what the actual topic is. But they've got plenty to add, too.

That's a mob beat down! As to which point it became a mob, you tell me. But the particular thread that inspires this topic should never have gotten to 10 pages before the Mods moved on it - IMO.

Though I am spewing about catching one particular mob member with her foot buried in her mouth and butt well and truly in the breeze and ripe for a good spanking, only for her to be saved by a Mod blanket nuke!

<whispering> Lucky I save all my own posts and quotes of who I'm replying to - I'll always have that.[sm=oddballs.gif]

TNDommeK -> RE: Mob Mentality (6/15/2013 4:59:32 AM)

I do understand that and have seen the drive bys you're talking about. But on this one and a few others I have to say the op went a bit haywire. I mean seriously, don't you think on this thread, there were ppl who did respond to the question(s) with no blood drawn? I remember reading and when I got to the op's response I had to go back and start over thinking I missed something.

Now, if the mods removed something I didn't see, then I'm wrong and apologize. But if things are as is, then I'm not sure I understand how this was a feeding frenzy.
