Actually, it does. If they have been triaged and they are waiting to be seen in the ER, then the hospital has determined that their condition is serious enough for an ER treatment.

Its no longer questioned that they are "nonserious" issues. Except by people with no medical background who think they know more than the hospital.

I woke up one morning with numbness in my face and bad eyes, I went to my doctor, who sent me immediately to the ER, where they sat me down for threee hours, apart from my face, I looked completely normal, no fever, nothing. I had bells palsy. and ended up having a cat scan And I live in canada, where my health care is socialised...
Another time he sent me to emerg for walking pneumonia,
the fact that emerg can get stuff done faster than booking an appointment for tests is another reason people go.
People ASSume for all kinds of reasons, and are blooody ignorant 99% of the time

With those symptoms I would have gone to the ER. That is an obvious potential emergency.

So it really doesn't affect my point at all.

No, it doesn't.

ROFL

So you, with no medical degree, are going to sit in judgement of those who have medical degrees, and work the ER's day and night?

You just get funnier and funnier.

Raiikun -> RE: I never really thought the Affordable health care act was perfect, but.... (6/16/2013 8:11:48 AM)

Ad hominem. (And a straw man.)

And almost missed the appeal to authority. Three logical fallacies in one post!

vincentML -> RE: I never really thought the Affordable health care act was perfect, but.... (6/16/2013 8:15:36 AM)

FR

I wonder if a system of affordable/subsidized outpatient clinics would be a significant help to the problem of ER overcrowding, if the PPA doesnt help.

tazzygirl -> RE: I never really thought the Affordable health care act was perfect, but.... (6/16/2013 8:16:17 AM)

You do love that word, dont you.

An ad hominem (Latin for "to the man" or "to the person"[1]), short for argumentum ad hominem, is an argument made personally against an opponent instead of against their argument

I am arguing the post... I never once said anything about you.

So this isnt an ad hominem attack.

Do you have a medical degree?

No.

Therefore, you are not qualified to determine who needs ER treatment and who does not. What may seem like a simply cold to you could actually be a severe disease process compromising airway, heart, lungs. Unless youa re qualified to make such a diagnosis, you are working with a severe lack of knowledge of the person's conditions and have no business practicing medicine without a license.

Funny how you argue you aren't making an ad hominem... by making another ad hominem.

By attacking my medical education, you are saying something about me, hence, an ad hominem.

tazzygirl -> RE: I never really thought the Affordable health care act was perfect, but.... (6/16/2013 8:19:24 AM)

Attacking? Asking if you have one is attacking? Do you have one?

Still an ad hominem.

Raiikun -> RE: I never really thought the Affordable health care act was perfect, but.... (6/16/2013 8:23:59 AM)

And have you already forgotten that you have twice asserted I have no medical degree?

By definition- ad hominem.

And you still dont answer. So its a rational assumption you do not. In this country, practicing medicine without a license is a criminal offense. You based your assumptions on a knowledge base you do not have, as evidenced by you obvious decision to not answer a straight forward question.

What credentials do you possess to make the medical decision that anyone isnt deserving of medical treatment in an ER?

Until you can answer that question, you are simply talking with a knowledge base, making assumptions on people you do not know, about things you cannot possibly diagnose.

If you wish to view that as an attack, go for it. Its a factual statement.

I have a medical degree. I would never be so stupid as to assume I can look at someone and tell them they dont need medical treatment. Yet, you can?

Do tell me how.

Raiikun -> RE: I never really thought the Affordable health care act was perfect, but.... (6/16/2013 8:27:33 AM)

Another ad hominem, and a major straw man.

Thanks for the link, tazzy. Isnt it perplexing we see NGOs providing medical clinics in Africa or Asia (not that I begrudge that) but our own citizens have to go to ERs? Well, not preplexing if we consider we really have no integrated healthcare system beyond Medicare.

I have made no such claim. Straw man.

Since you refuse to stick to my actual, very basic point, back to block you go.

Did you happen to notice the health care costs differences? From 14k to 3k a year.

Running from the discussion as usual. When you can back up what you claim, do let me know. Until then you do not have the ability to diagnose someone by simply looking at them and determining that they simply have a cold, or a cough, and do not need treatment.
