tazzygirl -> RE: I never really thought the Affordable health care act was perfect, but.... (6/16/2013 12:15:52 PM)

And, again, what does any of that have to do with sick people seeking medical help?

pahunkboy -> RE: I never really thought the Affordable health care act was perfect, but.... (6/16/2013 12:17:51 PM)

It speaks to the cost of it.

Cost effects access. You said you advocate for the patient- so it would be preferable for lower costs so easier access can occur.

jlf1961 -> RE: I never really thought the Affordable health care act was perfect, but.... (6/16/2013 12:18:24 PM)

For christ's sake, hunk.

Look at the present survival rates on some forms of cancer, some of which were a sure death sentence just 10 years ago, now they have a better than 60% survival rate.

The advancement in anti-virals have made it possible to survive AIDS and deal with some of the worst viruses on the planet.

And here you are claiming that the pharmaceutical companies do not want to develop a cure so they can make more money.

How often do you sweep your home for bugs and cameras?

Dont you get it? These people cant do anything about the costs. All they want to do is live as best they can and survive whatever is making them sick. At that point, I dont care what the costs are.

So the current model is acceptable to you- in the event that you get cancer?

As to bugging- wasn't the NSA just in everyone's internet and phone calls?

The current model is a failure. It is not acceptable.

LOL its useless, you made a statement, that showed a lack of understanding (actually two of them.)

quote:

There is truth here. It is often simply common sense to figure out what is an emergency, and what can be taken care of by a normal visit to your PCP.

AND
quote:

It doesn't take a medical degree to know a runny nose and cough can be taken care of by visiting your PCP. Yet I have seen people go to the ER for less, family included

but now you claim I dont understand what you said. When its quite plainly easy to understand.
im not playing semantics with you, you arent responsible for what you actually say.

Then it should be obvious to you why those points haven't been negated.

That it wasn't obvious to you led me to assume that you were reading stuff into my points that weren't there, like Tazzy so often does.

Im not responsible for your inability to post what you mean
Only what you actually said

I said exactly what I mean. You simply have said nothing that addresses or refutes it.

If you claim you have, then you don't understand my simple point. That is your failure, not mine.

First, I am scheduled for a procedure to remove a cancerous tumor from a kidney, something that just a few years ago would have required the removal of the whole kidney.

Second, the current health care system in the US is a joke. As long as insurance companies are in charge of how much care you can receive, it will remain a joke.

Third, the NSA has been monitoring Cell phone calls since the cell phone was put on the market, it is after all just a sophisticated radio transceiver. The supreme court ruled there is no right to privacy with cell phone use.

Fourth the FBI used to monitor emails with a program that picked out key words, like bomb, assassination, etc.

Fifth, belonging to certain groups in the US gets you on the Justice Department watch list, and this has been going on since Nixon.

Finally, the US postal service photographs every piece of mail that goes through their facilities, partly to check addresses, which would mean that after a shift the data is dumped, which it is not, so go figure.

Yes the system is screwed up. But not in the way Alex Jones and you think. In some ways, it is worse, and in others, it is just stupid enough to be the result of a bunch of elected individuals getting together, I assume getting drunk (since no one sober could come up with some of the shit) and coming up with bullshit regulations that only make sense if you are under the influence of heavy duty pain killers.

I'm sorry to hear you have cancer. It's the pits. Hopefully they can get it all with one surgery. I've had several cancer related surgeries and lost a job because of it when my FMLA ran out. Fortunately, I had temporary Medicaid at that time. Now that I'm covered under my husband's high deductible health insurance, I haven't seen my oncologist for follow up monitoring for over a year because we can't afford the deductible. My problem with the Affordable Care Act is that low income alone doesn't make people eligible to sign up for subsidized health insurance on the exchanges. People have to be uninsured as well. So that leaves out the low income people who only make $8-$10/hr and the companies they work for only offer high deductible policies. Because of that, there will still be a lot of low income people who can't afford medical care. I agree about the current system being a joke. For profit health insurance companies are the ones with the death panels. The more they refuse to pay, the higher their profits. What we need is Medicaid for all (Medicare doesn't cover nursing home care).

The ACA is for the uninsured, I have great insurance and will not be participating, nor will anyone else who has good coverage either from an employer or as an individual.

Other than out premium's skyrocketing you mean.

You are catching on. 4 years ago- I had the same opinions. You have made progress. That is a good thing.

Think about what you posted.

Premiums were skyrocketing before the ACA.

People keep ignoring that fact

then per haps we will address monetary policy.

tazzygirl -> RE: I never really thought the Affordable health care act was perfect, but.... (6/16/2013 6:34:57 PM)

YOU discuss monetary policy, and how much your insurance company contracts with a hospital to pay for a pill... and how they dont like a price list for you to debate upon...

I will worry about the men, women and children who go without health care everyday... who get told to see their PCP to take care of their allergies, or their high BP, or their diabetes, and how they also worry about how they are going to afford the 150 to see that PCP, the 150 for test strips, the 160 for insulin....

Yes, pahunk, you go worry about "monetary policy". Some of us live in the real world.

pahunkboy -> RE: I never really thought the Affordable health care act was perfect, but.... (6/16/2013 6:43:59 PM)

really?

Yes they were so low prior to the passing of the ACA. Having shopped group insurance once a year for the past 15 years, I can assure you that they were growing anywhere between 6-20% per year. Premiums would rise on years with very little use of the policy, and do the same if there was a catastrophic claim. If you look at the reserves of the health insurance companies, you'll see the hoarding of cash well beyond the required amounts, guess what that cash becomes the moment they decide to get nearer the mandated reserve levels....PROFIT....They have only hoarded the cash to deflect the argument over outrageous profitability while continuing to raise the rates. Such wonderful people those insurance folks! All the while companies like CIGNA pay their CEO 19.1 MILLION a year, I feel so bad for those guys!

The ACA forces the uninsured (who probably can't afford it) to go out and spend money on insurance. But, that's the dems for ya; making people choose between eating and making big business even richer.

Peace and comfort,

Michael

Of course we could keep things as they were and watch the poor people and the lower middle income people file bankruptcy, not have any type of healthcare, and suffer a much higher mortality rate. That would be conservatives for you!...Hell, they are part of the 47%, let 'em suffer, they can't donate any money anyway!

And yet no one uttered those sentiments when they were cutting programs to help those same poor.
