you are so right, the rising cost of malpractice insurance is a small drop in the bucket to the rising pharma costs as well as the tech costs like mri echo and cat and pet scanners Seamens, GE WESTINGHOUSE are the ones that are driving up costs as well as the insurance companies that are profiteering by rising the total insurance costs to hospitals of which malpractice is only one small part. Liability, flood, building insurance are all driven higher by one factor GREED!

Congress does not read the bills it passes- when they are written by the very corporations they are meant to regulate. So how does your way fix "greed"?

I just paid $260 for four (4) pills to treat an intestinal problem, and the cost of those pills is NOT tied to litigation costs.

Tort reform has not reduced costs. What evidence can you cite that patients are "lawsuit happy?" A victim of medical malpractice is not lawsuit happy, that person just wants (and deserves) civil justice. Maybe there could be improvements to addressing medical malpractice, but it's a red herring to think tort litigation is a major driver behind our health care costs. That idea is just Chamber of Commerce bullshit.

It costs $20K just to bring a medical malpractice lawsuit, so it not like many people are filing frivolous claims.

I don't read Americas popular press but I do read a lot of unhealthy comments from people regarding what they call freeloading socialist liberals and how they are sick of paying for their visit to the ER or the reason medical costs are so high is because of all these scroungers. How are the unemployed painted when it comes to free medical care? and what's their suggested solution ? do these people really believe that people who can't afford treatment shouldn't get it?

These people need to get their heads out of their ass and understand that the reasons tax's go up is because the entire system is extremely flawed and that isn't the fault of the poor or unemployed [8|]

Even when you have a lawyer that takes in on commission-you have to pay fees- and they can add up.

American health care has three major problems...

1) patients are lawsuit happy. Even if the patient is told the risks and possible complications ahead of time, if one of those complications happen they sue. Hence malpractice insurance goes up, so doctors have to pay more, the same is true for hospitals.

2) Most hospitals are a for profit operation. They exist to make money, so the prices are higher. And the hospitals that are basically just trying to cover costs cant afford the best equipment or get the best doctors on staff.

3) health insurance companies can limit the amount of care they will pay for any period, or put caps on coverage for specific illnesses or conditions.

You forgot to mention that medicare and medicaid pay less for identical services. For more than 40 years gov' programs have been driving up private costs to save some . . . a central piece of "Affordable Care." The thing I don't really understand is how a tax a medical devices could possibly make care more affordable. You'd have to be one dim witted chimp to buy that lie.

Medicare is administered by different insurance companies. of course its in their best interest to make lucrative contracts with the Medicare system.

In PA, medicaid is administered by a few insurance companies as well. Amazing how those sneaky little fingers get into everything.

Ok lets suppose those three notions are true (which by the way I dont but lets just pretend for a sec they are) If we eliminate 1, 2 and 3 do you truly believe that that will eliminate the high cost of health care in the US? If things were so very simple obviously they could be corrected but the problem as I see it and this is only my opinion is that the complex nature of the multi funded sources as well as multi profiting businesses to the delivery of health care make the problem of lowering the cost or even making it universal in the US a very difficult task. The AHA is certainly flawed and some in this fourm have pointed out some flaws but it is a start, and with anything there will be many corrections and adjustments along the way just like there is with ones clothing and tastes. Over time, the US having at least started to figure out how to correct the failure by the richest and most powerful nation in the history of the world to deliver to its population a society that is healthy I trust our future leaders will make improvements in this initial starting point and not quit before we have tried. That after all is THE AMERICAN WAY!

What's next, the bluest of blue states joins hundreds of unions and other groups and "opts out" of Obama care?

Yeah facebook is the best news information site...I got this from facebook three days ago....

Thank you media from across the country.. for the censorship and for keeping this off the news.. I'm sure it supported your agenda perfectly.

Did you know his trial is over?
Did you know he was sentenced?
Did you see/hear any of the judge's comments on TV or Radio?
Didn't think so.!!!

Everyone should hear what the judge had to say.

Ruling by Judge William Young, US District Court.

Prior to sentencing, the Judge asked the defendant if he had anything to say His response: After admitting his guilt to the court for the record, Reid also admitted his 'allegiance to Osama bin Laden, to Islam, and to the religion of Allah,' defiantly
stating, 'I think I will not apologize for my actions,' and told the court 'I am at war with your country.'

Judge Young then delivered the statement quoted below:

Judge Young: "Mr. Richard C. Reid, hearken now to the sentence the Court imposes upon you.

On counts 1, 5 and 6 the Court sentences you to life in prison in the custody of the United States Attorney General. On counts 2, 3, 4 and 7, the Court sentences you to 20 years in prison on each count, the sentence on each count to run consecutively. (That's 80 years.)

On count 8 the Court sentences you to the mandatory 30 years, again to be served consecutively to the 80 years just imposed. The Court imposes upon you for each of the eight counts a fine of $250,000, that's an aggregate fine of $2 million. The Court accepts the government's recommendation with respect to restitution and orders restitution in the amount of $298.17 to Andre Bousquet and $5,784 to American Airlines.

The Court imposes upon you an $800 special assessment. The Court imposes upon you, five years supervised release simply because the law requires it. But the life sentences are real life sentences so I need go no further.

This is the sentence that is provided for by our statutes. It is a fair and just sentence. It is a righteous sentence.

Now, let me explain this to you. We are not afraid of you or any of your terrorist co-conspirators, Mr. Reid. We are Americans. We have been through the fire before. There is too much war talk here and I say that to everyone with the utmost respect. Here in this court, we deal with individuals as individuals and care for individuals as individuals. As human beings, we reach out for justice.

You are not an enemy combatant. You are a terrorist. You are not a soldier in any war. You are a terrorist. To give you that reference, to call you a soldier, gives you far too much stature. Whether the officers of government do it, or your attorney does it, or if you think you are a soldier, you are not-----, you are a terrorist. And we do not negotiate with terrorists. We do not meet with terrorists. We do not sign documents with terrorists. We hunt them down one by one and bring them to justice.

So war talk is way out of line in this court. You are a big fellow. But you are not that big. You're no warrior. I've known warriors. You are a terrorist. A species of criminal that is guilty of multiple attempted murders. In a very real sense, State Trooper Santiago had it right when you first were taken off that plane and into custody and you wondered where the press and the TV crews were, and he said:

'You're no big deal. '

You are no big deal.

What your able counsel and what the equally able United States attorneys have grappled with and what I have, as honestly as I know how, tried to grapple with, is why you did something so horrific. What was it that led you here to this courtroom today?

I have listened respectfully to what you have to say. And I ask you to search your heart and ask yourself what sort of unfathomable hate led you to do what you are guilty, and admit you are guilty, of doing? And, I have an answer for you. It may not satisfy you, but as I search this entire record, it comes as close to understanding as I know.

It seems to me, you hate the one thing that to us is most precious. You hate our freedom. Our individual freedom. Our individual freedom to live as we choose, to come and go as we choose, to believe or not believe as we individually choose. Here, in this society, the very wind carries freedom. It carries it everywhere from sea to shining sea. It is because we prize individual freedom so much that you are here in this beautiful courtroom, so that everyone can see, truly see, that justice is administered fairly, individually, and discretely. It is for freedom's sake that your lawyers are striving so vigorously on your behalf, have filed appeals, will go on in their representation of you before other judges.

We Americans are all about freedom. Because we all know that the way we treat you, Mr. Reid, is the measure of our own liberties. Make no mistake though. It is yet true that we will bear any burden; pay any price, to preserve our freedoms. Look around this courtroom. Mark it well. The world is not going to long remember what you or I say here. The day after tomorrow, it will be forgotten, but this, however, will long endure.

Here in this courtroom and courtrooms all across America , the American people will gather to see that justice, individual justice, justice, not war, individual justice, is in fact being done. The very President of the United States through his officers, will have to come into courtrooms and lay out evidence on which specific matters can be judged and juries of citizens will gather to sit and judge that evidence democratically, to mold and shape and refine our sense of justice.

See that flag, Mr. Reid? That's the flag of the United States of America . That flag will fly there long after this is all forgotten. That flag stands for freedom. And it always will.

Mr. Custody Officer. Stand him down."

So, how much of this Judge's comments did we hear on our TV sets? We need more judges like Judge Young. Pass this around. Everyone should, and needs to, hear what this fine judge had to say. Powerful words that strike home.

Please SEND this----so that everyone has a chance to read it.

The only trouble with this amazing bit of propaganda is that the trial ended ten years ago, not this week, or month or this year even, but TEN years ago. I wont go ionto the dumbarse comments that followed, OR by the fact that the source was originally CNN.....
Then I also got this yesterday....
We will have to wait to see how this plays out.

And Arizona expands Medicaid....

June 18, 2013 12:00 am • Howard Fischer Capitol Media Services9
PHOENIX - Surrounded by what could be the new, more moderate legislative majority, Gov. Jan Brewer signed legislation Monday to expand Medicaid in Arizona.

The governor noted the measure was approved by an unusual coalition of 14 Republicans working with all of the Democrats in the Legislature, and they did it despite opposition from the majority of Republicans who control both chambers, as well as the House speaker and the Senate president.

And it came even as foes of expansion have threatened to do everything possible to ensure this will be the last term in office for the Republicans who supported it. Brewer, in signing the measure, took note of their actions.

BOSTON -- As Massachusetts converts its health-insurance offerings to conform with the federal Affordable Care Act, tens of thousands of individuals who receive coverage through the state will have to take steps and make decisions before the law goes into effect in 2014.

Lucylastic, I dont understand what the connection with your last post has to do with a discussion on the affordable health care topic of this thread. Perhaps you could explain how it fits in for me, as I have no clue the connection. Perhaps I am missing something you are saying.
