So I'm a bit curious as to how one goes about collaring a sub. I understand that it starts with the D and S reaching that point together but I mean is there some kind of "ceremony" to the act itself. Stories? Experiences?

It's whatever you want. There are no rules. Some people choose to have a ceremony of sorts, some don't. There's nothing requiring you to do so (or not do so.) Like I said, it's whatever you choose.

Probably not too dissimilar to how one goes about getting engaged in the vanilla world - but with more props.

Ya gotta invest some committment but....

I don't think that a ceremony is needed... but I'd like to do something similar to a ceremony when I'll collar my first slave :)

It depends, really. Some folks make it huge and ritualistic, others will just pop a collar around the neck and say "you're mine now".

There are no hard and fast rules, except within some Gorean groups.

Which gorean groups are you referring to?

Self identified Gorean here, and I know of no official rituals or ceremonies. My girl begged my collar while kneeling and bowing at my feet. She whimpered, she pleaded, and groveled. I put the collar on her and it has only come off for a lighter, titanium replacement. No ritual, no ceremony, just her begging and me letting her know she was now mine.

I have read an heard of all kinds of ceremonies for collaring, but they are individual desires. Especially with the wide range of D/s , M/s, O/p (or whatever initials are cool these days) you are going to find I huge range of opinions and experiences.

One friend of mine had a party where his sub served naked, then she was stung up and whipped in front of us all. After he took her down he had her kneel to him and on a mike he asked her questions from a contract. After he prompted vows to and from her. He then placed his collar on her with loads of ceremony. It was very cool.

I'll be honest: I kind of roll my eyes at the big ceremonies now. In the late 90s when Castlrealm was at it's height, there was pretty much an over the top, over romanticized, fluffy ceremony almost every single weekend at The Lair. Then the relationship would last three months and we'd get to see the submissive get collared to someone else in an over the top, over romanticized, fluffy ceremony all over again.

That sounds just like a lot of vanilla marriages I've seen in recent times!

That's also true too. People seem to get so focused on getting married and having a wedding that they don't do a lot of thinking about what happens after the honeymoon. And of course, Hollywood has perpetuated the "Happily Ever After" mentality so that people don't stop to realize that a successful relationship takes effort (from both sides).

Ceremonies for me are more focused intimate affairs. To my way of thinking a ceremony is used most effectively at a transition point in a person's life. My slave wore a training collar for a year before she got her permanent one. The moment of change was huge for both of us; it didn't need to be, but I desired it to be a very special occasion.

That night she was chained from the ceiling, dressed in her training collar, and a style of clothes she wore before we got together. We like candles so there was warm candlelight for the occasion. Incense and appropriate music. Every sense was brought into focus. I proceeded to slowly shred those clothes from her body, touching and caressing her all the while, at the same time I was whispering to her if she understood the significance of stripping her old life away. I took my time with it. She was shuddering with emotion by the time I was done. When all that was left was her training collar, I cut that off and told her her previous life was over. She was naked before me on every level.

We then spoke words to each other, meaning to us, she accepting her new life and her new role as my slave; and I accepting my new life and my new role as her Master. I then proceeded to have my way with her.

It was, as the saying goes, a Night to Remember......

Master and I got to know each other as people first. We dated for several months. During that time we fell in love with each other (although I wouldn't admit it at the time, lol). We decided to introduce D/s into our relationship.

So, he came over one night. I was waiting for him, naked and kneeling. He took the collar, fastened it around my neck and that was that. About 18 months later he asked what I'd like for Christmas. I asked for a necklace to symbolise our collar. He laughed and said he thought that was what I wanted.

Nothing fancy, just two people making a (hopefully) lifelong commitment in a way that made both of us happy.

As someone who is horrified at the thought of being a bride at a traditional white wedding, I think I'd run far and fast from any fluffy collaring ceremony too

You're too cheap to buy a full priced dog collar?

But yeah this has been incredibly informative. Thank you all for your input. I had assumed originally that it would friend heavily just on the pair but wasn't sure how to approach it.

Black Friday, the day they put all the dog collars on sale, even the big leather spiked ones. Up to 50% off.
Don't get gypped by usurious profiteering, shop smart!

(and actually the lil ones we got at a BDSM store)
