Yes, women talk too much. That's why, waaaaaay back in the time we used to live in caves and hunt mammoth and saber-tooth tiger, we banned them to that cave, so they wouldn't fuck up the hunt with their constant yammering. To the ladies who will no doubt be offended, tough shit. I like silence. When communication is needed or desirable, I'm all over it. When it's used to just kill time, I want to strangle myself.

Now that is funny and never thought of Stone Age man as so henpecked. I am thinking it might have been worse given the grunts of the time.

For me it has a lot to do with the voice!
I went out with a girl once who was somewhat boisterous normally, but add alcohol to the equation and... [&:]
That piercing voice... would literally make me wince every time.

Gee I went out with this nice woman who had a very quiet way of talking and laughing, at least in public. In private she was a little loud, swore more than I do, and swore more and talked louder when someone disagreed with her. We dated for two weeks.

Then I dated a girl that immigrated from Ireland. She talked just about non stop, but I so loved her accent, I didnt give a damn. We came close to getting married, but her mom got seriously ill so she went back to Dublin to take care of her. We keep in touch but things have cooled with distance.

I def talk a lot. Hubby calls me Tammy Talk a lot, at times. But he hates when I'm silent. [:)]

I bet now when you are quiet, he thinks something is wrong.

For the first few minutes he is probably thankful, but then he'll ask if I'm ok.
Lol.
I drive him nuts. I love it.

Mellissande -> RE: Do woman talk too much? (6/18/2013 7:17:48 AM)

I tend to be a quiet person unless you get me on a topic I am passionate about: video games, science, science fiction, Star Trek, doctor who, ancient history, or mechanics(how things work, not the people who fix them)

My husband constantly asks if I am ok because he equates silence with problems. I prefer listening. And reading. I can sit quietly for hours watching my husband play video games, and be perfectly content.

I hate talking on the phone. My family hates that about me. I have gone an entire month without talking on the phone more than 10 minutes.

It sounds like your lady friends really like you, they may feel that you understand what they are talking about and if you are their only source of companionship, they may be letting out on you all of the things they have wanted to talk about for weeks, but haven't been able to voice with anybody else.

Level -> RE: Do woman talk too much? (6/18/2013 6:09:46 PM)

Some people talk too much; some don't.

Rasciallymisty -> RE: Do woman talk too much? (6/19/2013 6:56:24 AM)

I tend to talk a lot when I have something to say, so when I am quiet everyone ask if I am okay? Sorta damned if I do and damned if I don't.....but oh heck thats just me.[:D]

PS I also hate talking on the phone.

MasterCaneman -> RE: Do woman talk too much? (6/19/2013 9:02:46 AM)

I hate talking on the phone too. 99% of the people who call me understand and respect that. If it can't be said in two minutes or less (emergencies or crisis's excepted), I'm not interested. My GF however, insists on hour-long calls, longer if she can get away with it. As I said before, it wouldn't be so bad if it was about something that really mattered or something she hasn't discussed before. It's like listening to an old recording over and over again.

lovethyself -> RE: Do woman talk too much? (6/19/2013 2:22:02 PM)

FR

I admit I talk too much. I also have a tendency to repeat myself if it feels like I'm not being understood. I have some insecurities about comprehension (both ways). The easiest way to get me to shut up without hitting any issues is to say something that shows that you understand what I'm trying to say. One word answers won't do it. Telling me to shut up will work, but I might not contribute to conversations for a while after that, even when you want me to.

Eta to add the FR.

Hi, Mellissande,

Minus the hubby part, I'm the same way. [:D] Though I've only seen a handful of doctorwho episodes, tbh. [&:]

I agree with Level, in general, too.

This may be her preferred way to feel connected to you. If you find it irritating, you could let her know it's a bit of a turn off, and ask if there's something else she enjoys that you can do together to produce the same result.

I also dread phone talk. I will do it when I am in a specific mood. I have already told callers "I have 5 minutes for this phone call".

I love how all the women on this thread are making their 'Of course not!' replies to the thread question really, really brief. [;)]

Lately I find the woman in my life can not stand the sound of silence. Things could be quiet at dinner- as a result of the unwanted conversation, I eat faster to get away from it.

No matter what I say- right down to how I flinch is an "issue".

Then last night I heard for 2 hours about drama from another gal- while she was sort of drunk- what does she do when she first wakes up- she phones me to rehash it all over again.

Does the Pope shit in the woods?

She does this on purpose.
She knows it UPSETS you.
This is her finest treachery.
Well played.
