Lately I find the woman in my life can not stand the sound of silence. Things could be quiet at dinner- as a result of the unwanted conversation, I eat faster to get away from it.

No matter what I say- right down to how I flinch is an "issue".

Then last night I heard for 2 hours about drama from another gal- while she was sort of drunk- what does she do when she first wakes up- she phones me to rehash it all over again.

I have found that if you shove your cock in her throat a woman has difficulty enunciating.

Unfortunately, that doesn't do you much good.

by the way hunky, I forgot to say Welcome Back.

TY hill-

It only bothers me when we are trying to eat dinner- she fidgets around- reads the mail- does everything but actually eat. Dinner is supposed to be light banter-

She's breaking the dinner rules. This simply cannot be allowed.

Have you bothered to express to her that you wish dinner time was focused on talking about the day, over a meal?
Of course, if your neighbor is cooking for you, then why not be grateful that she bothers to invite you over?

Or stay home and cook for yourself. Problem solved.

Is this a person who has a lot of companionship during the day, or are you her main source of that at dinnertime?

It could be that she is simply lonely.

I used to work with someone who was very 'DRAMA' oriented and it drove me a bit batty.
I discovered that if I gave him 5 minutes of undivided attention at the beginning of my shift to vent it would make the rest of the day much easier.

Maybe if you went before dinner and gave her some time to chat, she will be vented out at dinner time.

Personally, I found avoiding having any conversation with people when they are drunk makes life much calmer.

My ol' lady forgets sometimes that I'm a guy. Normally, I can conclude a phone message with anyone else on Earth in under 5 minutes-if I try to hang up on her within a half hour she accuses me of "Is there something I should know about?" I don't like to talk on the phone. I'm good with two to five minute presentations, because for the average person, that's their attention span.

It wouldn't be so bad if she had SOMETHING NEW AND INTERESTING to fucking talk about. No, she ends up repeating shit she's already told me days before, or even worse, TELLS ME ABOUT SOME FUCKING CELEBRITY who I couldn't give a wet fuck for. I love her, really, but sometimes I just want her to shut the fuck up sometimes. When I don't have anything to say, I can't just pull shit outta my ass to make her happy.

Yes, women talk too much. That's why, waaaaaay back in the time we used to live in caves and hunt mammoth and saber-tooth tiger, we banned them to that cave, so they wouldn't fuck up the hunt with their constant yammering. To the ladies who will no doubt be offended, tough shit. I like silence. When communication is needed or desirable, I'm all over it. When it's used to just kill time, I want to strangle myself.

Pst... tough shit... you just painted us all with the same brush.. and you have no clue about all of us. Thats the probelm with generalizations. I hate talking on the phone. I rarely speak to people I dont know in a social setting, unless I am there to have fun. The man complains I dont talk a lot but that I am a great listener.

I dont get people who cant have companionable silence. Its one of the things my ex adored about me. Something the man I am with now wishes, as a habit, I would give up and chatter like a magpie. Its not me.

I am not offended, because I feel the same way. And it may surprise you to know that my long-time friend Ruth (definitely a female) also feels the same. We both hate talking on the phone, and we hate incessant blabbering. We've known each other more than 30 years. A day at the beach together goes like this:

<Schlepping stuff down the beach> "Here's a good spot.
<10 minutes later> "Want some guac? Pass me a napkin, please."
<40 minutes later> "Dolphins, 2:00 just beyond the pier." "Cool."
<4 hrs later> "Getting foggy, let's go."
<30 minutes down Hwy 1> "Ice cream?" "Nah, still full from lunch." <Bypasses ice cream parlor.>
<5 minutes later, drops me off at my house> "Awesome, thanks." "Bye, see ya Friday."

And FYI, one of my boys blathers more than Ruth and me combined. MUCH more. That's why I refused to marry him.

I'm not much of a talker. Never have been. I hate talking on the phone. Always have.
People consider me a good listener. Sometimes that's true...sometimes I've mentally exited the conversation after the first sentence. I have a very short attention span so when speaking to others I assume the same about them. If not, then they can talk all they want and I'll pretend to listen.
My husband is actually the talker and his phone conversations tend to be very long.

Some women talk too much, some men talk too much.

And some are less chatty

You have to find someone whose communications style meshes with yours.

I think that women are no more talkative than men. I have experienced both sexes that talk so much, you might get a word in every five minutes or so. Of course you have to add children of any age and sex to this survey, IMO.

However, I have noticed that the subjects vary according to sex.

Men tend to go on about work, cars, sports, women in general, wives or girlfriends in particular, or the lack there of, ex's, thankfully most of my male friends are ex military or academically minded, so discussions usually deal with history, current events (not politics, but the stupidity of politicians) and since one is a doctor, what ever is the current health scare virus.

Women (the ones in my circle of friends) gossip, talk about how their boyfriend, husband or life partner is driving them crazy with whatever behavior, ex's, dating life, clothes, former bff's (what is a bff anyway?) or they want me to diagnose car problems with descriptions of sounds that the car makes, ask about tires, (of course I get the batting eyelashes and asked to change oil, check oil, check water, or some other routine upkeep on their cars) True blood, movies that "that I really should see" usually a romantic comedy.

Then there is Damian, my 16 month old nephew who is very vocal. Dont know what the hell he is saying, except "Go" "bowl" (everything is a bowl, bowls, trash cans, anything that holds substances in volume) baba bottle or cup. And lately, when he does not get his way, "BITCH" and of course, NO!.

Damian uses no appropriately, like when you ask him if he is sleepy and ready for a nap or bed, even when he is nodding off, he is never sleepy or ready for bed or a nap. The rest of his vocabulary is in some language that the dogs seem to understand, since the respond to his vocalizations.

My grandson has hit the "why?" phase. Since my daughter in law is stuck working a split night shift at a McDonalds all of which are open 24 hours, I have Thomas five nights a week. He averages 20 or so "why" questions an hour. I have found that the science channel seems to be his preference over cartoons, which is where the whys come from.

Anyway, constant talking is not a matter of gender. It is a matter of personality. Consider the one fact everyman learns in their first relationship, when women stop talking there is a major problem, usually the man's fault (even if it is related to whatever syndrome that is the current medical fad to explain weird emotional responses by women.)

When this happens, the talking done by the woman is usually in short answers, which indicates you (the male) is in no danger of imminent harm. But when it reaches one word answers, well the French Foreign Legion takes recruits of ages up to 45.

I should point out that when I was in college, most of my female friends were concerned with grades, study time, money, and that was about it. The ones not concerned with those things were concerned with guys, parties, fashion, and other non important subjects.

Male friends were concerned with girls, parties, cash on hand, and academics in that order.

I was also a resident assistant in a coed dorm. It was then I learned that young men and women away from home for the first time can be very talkative about a variety of things, family, past boyfriends, people having loud sex in the nest room (one girl on the fourth floor was a screamer, this meant the occasional visit from campus police because someone thought she was being raped or killed.)

This was a big change from barracks life in the army, conversations were muted, precise, and pretty short, unless there was alcohol involved, then they were loud, long winded, and after a couple of hours, unintelligible.
