I suck on my fingers including my thumb.
I get itchy when things are not going well.

I say thank you way too much. This has been called to my attention on several occasions when I've said thank you to people for them doing something they were expected to do in the first place. I consider it a form of politeness, though; not to mention positive reinforcement when working with troubled youth. But maybe I do carry it a bit overboard.

I steal pens. My agency had some very nice personalized pens made about 2 years ago and they fit my hand nicely. I've been collecting them especially because my arthritis is not bothered by them. The stock is now gone, so whenever I find one sitting around an office or I use one that another caseworker has, I slip it into my bag.

I smoke and keep losing my lighters. I wish I could quit smoking but have tried several times to do so. The best I've done was about 18 years ago I was hypnotized and quit for 9 months. I also wish I could keep track of lighters. (Speaking of lighters. Has anybody ever wondered why/how smokers always lose lighters and matches but pyromaniacs manage to always to have their lighters?)

I eat when I'm not hungry. Food equals comfort for me.

I spend way too much time isolating myself from society/friends/neighbors.

And the list go on...

I leave cupboard doors open all the time, then fuss that every cupboard door is wide open.

I sing at odd and embarassing times for seemingly no reason at all.

I clean out the tub or shower as I am using it. I hate leaving it dirty for the next person.

When Daddy empties his pockets, I organize it in neat little piles.

I eat when I read -- mostly just nuts or fruit or little candies. It's a horrible habit because most of the time, I'm not hungry.

Well, since you specifically said you weren't talking about CDO stuff, I guess I will have to stick to some of my more mundane habits.

I almost always have a guitar pick between my teeth. I guess it's like people that have a toothpick in their mouth constantly and I've always found that pretentious (although, I could rationalize the shit outta my guitar pick having a purpose LOL).

I am always griping about half-full garbage bags being taken to the curb (each bag must have a $2.00 sticker on it in order to be picked up) but, I also gripe about the kitchen garbage being too full.

Lastly, I've never been able to blow my nose without gagging/throwing up so I tend to "sniff in" as opposed to trying to blow it. I really wish I could stop that one.

Peace and comfort,

Michael

I steal pens, don't ever give me one. Always forget to put the milk back in the fridge after coffee. Paying my cellphone bill on time. Probably happened once in the past 10 years. Maybe twice.

I'm the opposite. I can't sleep on the nights my direct deposit shows up. I'm up waiting, and the minute it shows up I'm paying my bills. THEN I sleep. I sleep damn good too. All of my bills are paid by 10 am on payday. They'd be paid by 4 am if I didn't have to go to the bank to pay one bill specifically. I hate that bill.

I try to do too many things at once then my brain goes on overload.

I find something interesting to read or watch just before bedtime so I end up late then a zombie the next day from being up so late but still my kids are up bright and early. The next day I kick myself wishing I had just saved it for the morning.

Too many years of hanging out with economists has left me with the bizarre habit of checking each bill (currency) I get to see which treasury secretary signed it. Once a waiter saw me and asked nervously if he'd given me the wrong change! That was a smidge awkward.

I hate a messy bed, so I straighten the blankets when I get up any chance I can!
Sir has often accused me of making the bed with him still in it.

Same here! I mean, all beds are much more comfortable when the sheets and blankets are straight, right? :)
And let's not get started on a twisted pillow case.

I also have a very annoying habit of turning my left blinker on to signal my intention to park.
In my own driveway!

I bite nails and fingers. HORRID!

UGH. Another one of mine.
I absolutely hate it but I do it without even realizing it.

When I start a project I can't stop in the middle of the project and I have to ignore all the other projects I have to do until the first one is done. For example, I'm stuck on a project right now but instead of putting it to the side and working on the others until I have more time to actually fix the part where I'm stuck, I just continue to work on that project and then I fall behind on all the rest until I'm forced by someone to put it aside to get something else done that they need done.

In the evenings when I want to relax, I will pull up an archaeology site that I like to keep up to date with but I end up getting so engrossed in the site and reading old articles I've never read before, that by the time I realize it, it's 3am and I have to wake up in a couple of hours for work. I just lose all track of time.

Anyone else got habits they wish they didn't have or do??

Thoughtless rubbing of my eye. It doesn't help me to see better and no matter what, I still have to get up, take my happy ass to the bathroom, clean my eye and put in my medication. Rubbing eye: bad for the skin, doesn't work, irritates my eye, doesn't save me any time - but I still do it.

I say "thank you" so often that I say it at times I don't even need to. Like, I'll do something someone should thank me for and then I'll tell THEM "thank you." Guess I'm just afraid it won't get said? Not sure.

I do that too! In my defense I did read the Ms Manners books as a child.

I also have awkward moments where I "dance" with people as we're trying to figure out who should pass each other on pathway. I do that more than any one I've met. I know it would be more simple to just like... always go right and stay right or something! Ha ha. I drive myself nuts with that.

I do too! I have spent my life reading about and studying crime and I'm always aware that I could be in a situation that needs a witness for later..lol....it's not that I live in fear, not at all. I'm just always super aware of what's going on in case I need to know later or for my own safety now..........luci
