Whenever I hear anything that sounds like gunshots, I count how many and note the time.

I do too! I have spent my life reading about and studying crime and I'm always aware that I could be in a situation that needs a witness for later..lol....it's not that I live in fear, not at all. I'm just always super aware of what's going on in case I need to know later or for my own safety now..........luci

I completely get it, sluci, and I don't live in fear either. Just situationally (sp?) aware, and it's a damned good thing, too, or the guy with the gun who broke into my house last year, the one to whom I politely introduced my gun, might have wrecked my life. Nope, there's no harm in paying attention or being ready...no harm at all.

BTW folks, not to jump track, but, that wonderful cat of mine whose expression alerted me to the fact that something was just not right at the time that happened, dropped the body with wee bit of assistance last week. After 12 years without an injury illness or vet visit (except for 1 dental) she got hurt and I had to help send her off. No worries, folks, I am well with it.

Cheers to Weenie (my cat) and Mabel (my .357), without both of whom I might not be here today. Hip hip hooray!!

Gee, I wonder if cats can attain sainthood? I can see it now...Saint Weenie. Yep, I like that.

I think it's so cool that you gave your gun a name and r.i.p. to your kitty, Dusky P's.

Fast reply......

I have a terrible trouble with not speaking the truth. This is My downfall. My weakness in My lack of tolerance being allowed about Me or Mine to be lied about sucks the life out of Me.

I struggle with this daily.

*I have nasty habits...I take my tea at three*

Oh wait...that was Micks

Doesn't everyone name their weapons?!

Thanks muchly, ES.

Nope. I look at mine as merely another tool that I may have to discard if the situation calls for it. The only "named" weapons I've ever had (sort of) were the artillery pieces I served on. I rarely even give them (my weapons) a gender, like some folks I know. They're just an "it" to me.

Duskypearls -> RE: Stupid, idiotic or just plain irritating habits you wish you didn't do! (6/22/2013 6:56:58 AM)

That was actually me poking fun, MC. I've never actually met anyone else that names their weapons.

While I like her, I'm not overly attached. There's just something funny about the name Mabel to me. On the rare occasion when I show her to someone, and introduce her by name, it always gets a laugh.

MasterCaneman -> RE: Stupid, idiotic or just plain irritating habits you wish you didn't do! (6/22/2013 8:14:00 AM)

Heh. I know a couple guys from my gun club who've named theirs, one to the point he has it engraved on them. Actually, it's a good idea if it were ever lost or stolen and turned up. Low-lifes would deface the numbers but would probably leave something like that because it's cool.

Duskypearls -> RE: Stupid, idiotic or just plain irritating habits you wish you didn't do! (6/22/2013 9:45:04 AM)

Good idea. I just might do that.

MissKittyDeVine -> RE: Stupid, idiotic or just plain irritating habits you wish you didn't do! (6/22/2013 10:04:36 AM)

I apologise to my cats every time I tread on a paw. Every damn time. And not just with "sorry", it's "oh darling, I'm really really sorry ..."

Duskypearls -> RE: Stupid, idiotic or just plain irritating habits you wish you didn't do! (6/22/2013 12:54:21 PM)

MissKitty, I admit I used to do the same and felt SO bad about it. This would come out of my mouth, "Oh honey, I'm so sorry, what were you doing under my feet?" "Oh, you poor thing, let me kiss that little foot and it'll feel better. Please don't get underfoot." and I'd pick her up and kiss and gently rub the offending paw, and she'd be fine.

When ordering take out, such as we did this evening, I still feel compelled
to transfer the food from the styrofoam container to a real plate. [:-]

Anyone else got habits they wish they didn't have or do??

I cuss. My vocabulary is large enough to express anything I feel so there's no reason for it. I never cuss anyone out, but my current flavor of the week is "f*ck". F*ck, damn, and sh*t are three words I'm trying to eliminate from my vocabulary...but...I have too much stressors in effect right now to follow through. (I have deliberately gone over ten years, in the past, without letting one cuss word leave my lips...I was too scared my kid would say them in church. AGAIN. Drat that speeding ticket.)

I double or triple check that each public pen that I've used doesn't end up in my purse. I used to end up with over a dozen pens in my purse each month with no idea how they got there, lol.

I forget to eat until I'm getting dizzy and feeling sick. Right now I'm working on remembering to eat three times per day as I'm getting better at having a second one. I'm sure I've already messed up my metabolism to where it thinks I'm in starvation mode and it's beyond repair.

I cut people off while they are talking, either because they are talking way too long without taking a breath and I am dying to cut in...or else I'm afraid of forgetting something that needed to be said.

I'm incapable of biting my lip when some movie (especially a porn movie) is f*ing ridiculous and I'll verbally rip it to shreds. If some character in a movie is doing their best to win a Darwin Award, I'm cheering on the monster to hurry up and kill them already.

I freeze up on the day that my money comes into the bank and generally can't/won't pay bills for a week to a week and a half without experiencing a great deal of difficulty. Crowded stores...it's a PTSD thing. My phone company closed up it's office, a place that was easy for me to make payments, same goes for my electric bill. I prefer paying cash and hate sending checks by mail. Waiting in line at Walmart or a grocery store to pay my bills can totally overload me, especially strangers brush up against me or some aftershave I remember from way back when... I often go shopping after midnight on the first and can get most of my shopping done in early morning hours when there are not that many people up and about, but bill paying...sometimes I put that off until the exact due date, and with Geico, sometimes I go a day or two past the due date.

I have survivors' guilt, and found out since Carin's death that guilt of any type, no matter how stupid or unreasonable, can trigger my panic attacks. I've worked on it and have gotten better BUT...this kicks in at bill paying time believe it or not. I feel guilty when I don't have all my bills paid by the 3rd and this contributes to my freezing up and avoiding them for a week longer.

My eyes are a magnet for cat hair, especially when one of my furbabies stands between my face and the fan in the window when I am playing my Nintendo DS or reading a book. I rub the eye first...and cannot resist rubbing the other eye that's not bothering me.

Duskypearls -> RE: Stupid, idiotic or just plain irritating habits you wish you didn't do! (6/23/2013 7:07:50 AM)

On TV on in movies, whenever somebody is dead the camera focuses in on their face, I watch their eyes like a hawk for any kind of movement, which they inevitably make. Then in my head declare what poor job they did of playing dead.

LOL when a friend of mine was living in Kansas City some war started between two gangs there. Her husband was an OTR truck driver and she would tell him there was gunfire every night. He laughed at her sure she was exaggerating. He had been gone for nearly a month when he finally got to come home for a few days. The first night home the gunfire started right outside of their house. He hit the living room floor saying holy shit that's gun fire. She glared at him and said I told you!! They called the police and they asked if anyone was laying in the street, he told them I dont know and I am not sticking my head out there to see. A cop car drove by with all it's lights out but didn't stop. He told her they were moving asap after that.

I do this!!!

What's worse, when I'm too tired and transferring seems like an unnecessary step, I put the container on a plate. Now, how does that make any sense?
