Did you read some of the replies at the end of the article? I didn't read them all, stopped when one argued that disabled people get SSI or SSD and so the low pay isn't that much to cry about because, by making so little, it doesn't affect their government check or medicaid. But if somebody isn't even making $1 an hour, they're still not earning enough to reach the $65 threshold that they "keep" before any SSI funds are taken away from them. And after that $65, an SSI recipient only loses $1 for every $2 earned. (In PA there is an additional $20 that can be earned before there is any money taken from SSI checks). SSD runs on a totally different formulation that has little to do with how much is earned and has more to do with hours worked, etc.
