I haven't read one for about 40 years but I have fond memories of Sweet Savage Love by Rosemary Rogers. (If there is a better bodice ripper out there, I didn't run across it during my bodice ripper reading days).

So, what's your favorite bodice ripper?

::this thread started in honor of Dusky Pearls whose education in the bodice ripping department has been sorely lacking for far too long!::

I am so sorry, but I have nothing useful to contribute in the bodice ripper department. Picked up some random book one time and it had me laughing too hard, which I'm sure is the exact opposite effect the author was looking for

Wicked, Dark and Savage Desire I knew about (and read in the way back when).. I did not know about Bound by Desire or Lost Love, Last Love.

Man.. I hadn't thought about those for years until I read Dusky's post on another thread. It would probably be a hoot to go read them again! Thanks for the two new finds. :)

I can not remember the title, but there was one I borrowed from my mother during my teenage years that I remember happily.

No I have to go and see what google brings.

I really don't recall any of the titles I read because I was very young when I indulged. I do recall several pirate themes, and a few oriental slave sagas. When I read them they were gulped down by series. I would search the bookstores for sets and spend my money on themes. I think I stopped reading them when crime became more newsworthy. People like the night stalker, and Ted Bundy were headlines and I became hooked on crime and psychology rather than being whisked away to exotic locales and ravished repeatedly. lol The crime stuff sort of made me irritated that the women were not fighting back as hard as I might have.

I so get that! I went from Rosemary Rogers to Anne Rule and while the bodice rippers went away as a form of entertainment reading, I never did stop enjoying true crime books.

Found (and bought) it.

It was the German edition of A Fire in the Heart by Katherine Sutcliffe.

I am looking forward to reading it once more and finding out how 20 years have changed my view on the book.

I have fond memories of reading books by Barbara Cartland. No virgins were harmed in the writing of her books - they all waited until after marriage to be deflowered - but there was a lot of bosom heaving before the marriage ceremony.

We didn't read Nancy Drew when I was a kid. It was Enid Blyton and the famous five books. Loved those books, though my dad who was a teacher hated them. He thought they were too simple and would discourage us from reading. Silly man - my kindle is my best friend.

I had, and loved, all Famous Five (called Die fünf Freunde in German) stories on cassette. I would love to hear some of them again.

I have to admit, I had to google bodice rippers. I've never read any romance novel or erotica of any sort. Maybe I'm missing out.

Savage Thunder. I forget the author. The main thing I remember it is in return for escorting the hot patrician girl somewhere, he gets to have his way with her along the way. At one point they are sharing a horse. He tells her to turn around, "I want to ride you to the rhythm of my horse."

Rosemary Rodgers was the queen of bodice rippers, but if I remember correctly, Johanna Lindsey... maybe Kathleen Woodiwiss did a few.

I may have to add that to one of my stories now that you mention it. Hehe

Woodiwiss wrote The Flame and the Flower (Brandon and Heather!) and The Wolf and The Dove (Wulfgar and Aislynn!). Loved both of them.

There was another book called Deep Summer wirtten by Judith ? that I loved too.

ETA: Oops just googled Deep Summer and the main character's name is Judith. It was written by Gwen Barstow.
