obviously it's not just her generation. Did you watch the Zimmerman trial today???? All I could do was say "wow" during the entire trial today and shake my head at how sad the teenager is in her thinking.

That seems to be something many are overlooking. This woman is 66 years old. To put that in perspective, in 1964, the Mississippi schools were ordered to desegregate. It was a completely different time.

Not making excuses for her, she should have known better.

I dunno. Hearing people say she should be given some slack because in her days it was "normal" and that was her upbringing is like saying somoene who still smokes at that age should be given some slack because they didn't know smoking would harm them now.

Well....it's not like they don't know NOW so you can't use the excuse of your past.

Im not saying she should be given slack. I am saying I understand the mindset. But segregation didnt end in most of the south until she was 17. She grew up with the racist talk, the hatred, the anger of that era.

And she has had 50 years to lose it.

I dont want anyone to excuse her behavior, she has none.

But we have to understand it, else we may repeat it.

The black comics use the dreaded n word all the time along with cracker - no one calls them on it. Even Treyvons girlfriend doesn't think cracker is a racist term.
I have heard blacks call their kids dumb nigxxxs. The biased media stirring up trouble.

I give her credit for being honest. The south is changing, for the better, and many who used racial slurs years ago would not dream of doing it now. The generation Paula came up in was different than it is today, "normal" was different, and views about race were different. As long as someone grows and learns, I refuse to hold their past against them.

That said, I wonder, if everyone was as honest as Paula was, what would happen if we asked everyone of all colors if they had ever referred to someone of a different color in a derogatory way.

I suspect that, if this were done and everyone guilty lost their job, we would not have much of a workforce left, nor anyone to play sports, hell we would probably go back to the middle ages.

I just feel that she is being judged very harshly on something, because she refused to lie.

She's losing a job because the public got to see the real woman, the one that called another woman a "piece of pussy" and talked about holding a "southern plantation" themed wedding amongst other bad behavior. If you read the whole deposition you will not feel so warm and fuzzy about her.

Exactly. I read the entire thing and found it shocking that anyone could defend her. She's a total racist and a sexist.

The complaint against her and her brother is about so much more than a racial slur. Black employees were to use one bathroom, white employees were allowed to use any bathroom including the customer bathroom. Black employees were not allowed to use the front door nor were they allowed to work front of the house. A manager referred to the kitchen workers as 'monkeys' and her brother suggested they be placed on their own island. She claimed female workers were a dime a dozen and could be fired and replaced but males shouldn't be let go. Females wages were purposely kept lower than males. The racial slur from 30 years ago is just the tip of the iceberg. Her behavior and that of her brother is appalling.

Full complaint. It's a long read.

I worked in one place, about 8 white employees in the office. The boss and his wife (the secretary) used one bathroom the rest of us, men and women, had to use the other one. Racist no, elitist yes. No different than having, or not having, the key to the executive toilets.

When I waited tables in a restaurant (Arnots) in downtown Atlanta, GA, in '83, I experienced horrible reverse racism. Funny think about it was them that did it were disturbingly and blatantly proud of it. No secret there.
