True, I suppose it does, though why is something you could only figure out by doing a big survey of big girls! A lot of girls I know in the scene have, or have been overweight in the past, and plenty of them don't seem to mind.
For those girls who are happy with their weight, or at least happy not to let it get in the way of having fun, the BDSM scene is a lot more accepting than vanilla society of people going out and having a good time wearing what they like and doing what they like regardless of their weight. It might not necessarily be that bigger girls are more attracted to BDSM but as well as a reason to be shy (most people usually seem to be entering the scene for the first time) they've got a reason to be confident in the scene, whereas perhaps many skinnier girls don't choose to go out that readily as they don't necessarily feel differently welcomed than in the vanilla world? -there are plenty on the internet, maybe not so many slimmer girls in the r/l scene as bigger ones.
For girls not happy about their weight, I don't know -maybe insecurities about their BDSM sexuality helped them pile on the pounds? Or maybe lack of confidence lead them to consider a good Dom/sub might help them feel better about themselves (of course still genuine as that's not much of a vanilla thought.)
As for the mention of people being abused in the past, some people say BDSM can help them deal with those things, others say the abuse has changed their sexuality in that way, but for some I hope they're not in the scene for the wrong reasons  Though that's a completely different discussion!
...for all the arguments over what people should think of BBWs... I have friends of all shapes and sizes, but I refuse to join the wave of political correctness gone crazy and won't pretend it doesn't matter at all to me for sexuality/BDSM.
Personally I tend to go further towards lean strong & muscular for a physical preference in men, but then they've got to be able to pick me up or hold me down, and chase me round the room...  but some guys (and girls) specifically love BBWs, so maybe being seen as a fetish in itself invites out a lot of the girls these guys go for. Its all personal preference really.
Probably a thousand more reasons, maybe a different one for each woman, ...Or it could be just coincidence.
As far as I'm concerned its great women of all shapes and sizes are happy in the scene, variety is the spice of life!
