I would be interested to hear of whom else got a warning on this thread.

out of a dozen people i have personaly known that have had a heart attack or stroke  only ONE was overweight..all the the rest were thin, most noticbly thin..go figure...but thats another thread..

I used to work on a cardiac intensive care floor at a hospital, which was also the step-down intensive care floor ... which means that I saw 100s of people pre- and post-bypass surgery.  In just over two years of working there, there maybe 20 who went through the floor who weren't at least 50# overweight.  Given this, and the general research that has been done - overweight people are just at higher risk for issues like MIs and CVAs - it's a fact that is as proven as any scientific fact can be.

Hhhmmm.... happiest freaks.... hhhmmm..... thinking

There are alot of things in the world that don't need to be said . there alot of things that should never be questioned .... most won't due to the reprisals they get afterwards ... such as what the OP is dealing with now . the OP simply had a curiousity question and wanted opinion on the matter.

a thought just popped in .. as a society we have always and for the most part by the "vanilla" world been considered freaks ....... heres a question . in the freak show at the circus or carnival ... does anyone remember who the happiest freaks were ??

You got a warning too, huh? Seems the mod takes this thread kind of personally. For the record you didn't make any disparaging remarks that I saw. And it's funny that you're question and my statement get warnings (my statement got pulled) but jackass statements like post 8 and 9 stay in the thread. Interesting.

Ok... now I am shocked.  What was so bad about your post?  I see more disparraging (if my spelling is appalling today - I have no excuse, just lazy) ones aimed at the OP.

We should not assume that just because someone "said" they got a warning from the moderators ... that's the defacto truth. It may be, but we have no proof of it.

If it helps ... people might consider that getting along with moderators is actually a rule here. You would think people on a power transfer website, would understand that.

Well, I did, but I will be the first to admit that I deserved it.  Thing is, I woke up, lounged over to my computer with my first cuppa caffiene, and this thread was the first thing I saw.  She had to email me (and delete my flaming posts) twice.  Then I pulled myself together, wrote up a rational post, then wrote to the Mod to thank her for yanking on my leash, as I'd needed it.  Yes, sometimes even Domme's need that! :)

I am a submssive BBW, and take no offense to the notion that more or less overweight find themselves on CM or any other site.  The fact is America as a whole is overweight, so statistically it should come as no surprise that a message board/ website has a significant percentage of overweight people.

The phrasing "fair share" sounds like there's  something wrong with it...but I am not sure if this was simply a poor choice of words or a stab at "overweight" people/women being on the site.

As for being an overweight person, I don't think my attraction to this lifestyle would be any different if I was a size 6...so I can't say it is self-esteem or a need to be accepted that attracts me to this lifestyle.  I am certain there are women in all shapes, sizes, and colors who are attracted to the lifestyle because of self-esteem and acceptance issues, but I don't think this is predominant in overweight women.

I do, however, agree that the internet has become a comfort zone for people who have social inhibitions.  Some people do better writing emails than they do in talking on the phone or in person. This too is not predominantly a overweight woman thing, but a society thing.

This is my $.02

We all know that overweight people tend to have higher risk for health problems. That's not the point of this thread.

I still see nothing derogatory in the OP, and i see no reason why Six should have been warned. Did someone report him?

... It obviously wasnt the question - was it the generalisation? Or because it touched a nerve that people know and understand, but don't really want to identify?

well, on a personal level, this slave has that thing they call Body Dysmorphic Disorder---regardless of weight, this slave body looks distorted and even at 110 pounds looked "overweight" in the mirror.  currently, at  5'7", weighing 145~the BMI thingee on the scale tells this slave she is "obese"...not that this slave took offense to the OP, but, this slave is going to go out on a limb and guess it's a perspective thing and reiterate that this slave  personally doesn't notice a preponderance of overweight people specifically involved in any one group...with the exception of the group "general US population".

ok look sixstrokes..you obviously have a sense of humor..it was the fair/unfair thing in your question ok?
and in answer to your question?
its because we mostly meet over the net..and when someone has only real personality to focus on chances are they will get past more of the appearance issues later on in the relationship.
i'm sorry you got such a tough time of it here but i would say you were very successful..you certainly got everyone posting
so thank you
sincerly,
Red

Why does bdsm appear to attract far more than its' fair share of overweight women?

I'm not going to read this whole thread. I've read more than enough of them to know how they go, so if this point has been made already, I'll apologize in advance for the redundancy.

BDSM is populated by a 'fair share' of hedonists ... pleasure seekers who like to indulge. Eating is a pleasurable experience. Exercise usually isn't. Last time I checked, 60% of American's were overweight. Combine that with being a hedonist and finding out that it's OK to be into pleasure and there you have it, overweight women and men into BDSM.

Celeste

More power to you beth - suffering from dysmorphia is an ongoing battle and I salut you and stand in awe.

(The following isnt directed to you - just added to my reply)

Here is an interesting observation - of all the people - both male and female who replied to this thread - which proportion are larger or overweight?
I think the observation is speaking quite well for itself and upholding the OP.

Now is that because slimmer people do not respond?  I do not think so - there are many responders here who respond to all threads... so what does that say?

I am a "writer" type by nature, more comfortable with the written word, and far more able to express myself in writing than by any other means.  I was brought up being told I was "stupid" (also clumsy and ugly) by my father, and for the first 2-1/2 decades of my life I believed that, and always interacted with people (in person) coming from that somewhat lesser position, rather like always being the supplicant, even in casual friendships.  Probably what made me spend the first 2 years in this lifestyle thinking I was submissive <g>  I've gotten past that to a great extent (I'm a Mensan, but I don't normally go around bragging about it... promise!), but I'm still far more comfortable with expressing myself in the written word.

Fortunately, at real-life play parties, there's so much PLAYING going on, I don't have to worry much about how I express myself <grin>

Okay, okay, this is about beaten to death, and my opinion is mine and mine alone.  I totally agree with Mentor Warren, look around the grocery store, what you see thre, you will see here, but I know how many go to stores very late at night to avoid being 'looked at'.

Perhaps it is simply a matter of self acceptance.  Depending on who's doing the judging, I am also overweight.  I find it a very natural state for me.  It is not easy coming to terms with oneself.  Ask any sub who has hidden in closets wishing they were chained there.  When I begin feeling uncomfortable, then I check and drop that extra 5-10 lbs again.  I have my own comfort zone and will stay there contentedly.  Too many times we attempt to change who we are to become more acceptable in the eyes of society.  We fight to conform to general opinions disregarding what is correct for us to be part of the crowd.

To post on-line, or go to a munch takes a great deal of courage.  (*sigh*  less to post, you can hide).  Having accepted such a forbidden part of ourselves, this, the BDSM, in whatever combination we chose, most especially in a political climate which seems to lean towards conservatism more and more often, is it not possible that it is quite simply the same acceptance of who we are on the outside as well as who we are on the inside?

Just my 3 cents (inflation you know), and my opinion, remembering that opinions are like a**holes, everyone has one, and quite often they stink.

darkinshadows raises an interesting point - as a result of my question i received various insults - why is direct abuse such as that quite in order but questions that make some uncomfortable not
whilst posting could i also state that i actually dont like bdsm people who fart in public places and that is a statement not a question - go on - shoot me
