hrxxx -> BDSM Allergies (6/24/2013 4:21:23 AM)

Since there is great concern, about allergies here on collarme, I think that I would make thread about it. I do not know anything about leather allergy, rubber allergy, latex allergy, nylon allergy, plastic allergies, dust allergies and there are probably many more, and if you know anything about allergy from BDSM you can write it in this thread. The only allergy I know something about nickel allergy

Nickel and BDSM
When BDSM was for the few, one could only buy toys made of surgical stainless steel, and one could only buy the same as doctor bought, and everything was expensive, the cost of surgical stainless steel is very expensive than stainless steel. Surgical stainless steel is also used for jewelry and piercing and is safe to use, the chance to get a nickel allergy is slim to non. so if one find any toys, which is made of surgical stainless steel it should be safe to use.

Stainless steel has a higher concentration of nickel than surgical stainless steel and are therefore more unsafe to use, 15% of all women have a good opportunity to develop nickel allergy if they are in contact with nickel every day, as an example going around with stainless collar 24/7 the less you use stainless steel in the day the less chance there is of getting nickel allergy. Much toys are made of stainless steel, and if it is only used once in a while, then it should be okay.

Chrome steel is the worst, the most common types of chrome steel is chrome / iron and chrome / brass and it has a very high concentration of nickel, and is not suitable for use in toys or use on the body,

If you bought some toys and you do not know what type of steel it is, here's a little trick

surgical stainless steel, stainless steel and chrome / brass is NOT magnetic, so if a magnet can stick to your toy then it is chrome / iron. If you want to know if it is chrome / brass you will need to make a scratch in the surface. if you can see it looks like gold, it is chrome / brass.

"Once you udvikle nickel allergy, HOWEVER, you will always be sensitive til metal and need-to-avoid contact"

you can not tell the difference between

Surgical stainless steel
stainless steel
Chrome / iron
Chrome / Brass

It looks like the same.

Most webshops just write stainless steel regardless of what type it is

Greetings

I am allergic to sugar, no I do not have diabetes I am allergic to processed sugar so my partner have to make sure lubes and such do not have sugar in it if I might end up eating any of it.

quote:

Actually I had nickle allergy when I was a teenager, I could not even wear silver I had to wear gold. Well one day I bought a rock crystal ring, it was all rock crystal just carved from a slice of stone. I wore that ring non stop for several days then it sort of disintegrated on my hand and fell to the floor in pieces, after that I have been able to wear any metal that I like for as long as I like though just to be sure I generally wear silver and steel, but I have jewelry made of all sorts of metals and wear them often with no ill effect.

I do think it is wise though to ask about allergies before one play with someone, just to be safe. When I had a play mate he gave me this sheet to fill out so he had it on writing any allergies, phobias and such I had so he would be sure not to harm me.

I wish you well

angelikaJ -> RE: BDSM Allergies (6/24/2013 9:36:09 AM)

You are not mentioning a big one:
Latex.

Another one that some people run across is Ginger (for figging or adding to lubes). Some people can eat it just fine but react badly if it is used in a mucous membrane.

One should also be aware that chemicals used in the Anus/Rectum end up in the bloodstream.

There are many chemicals that people are sensitive to: Phthalates are often used in so called "jelly" toys.
They can cause reactions and have been shown to disrupt the endocrine system.

Parabens are often used in Lubes and a lot of people can not tolerate them.

Glycerin is another ingredient that is often used in lubes.
It can set up the conditions for a yeast infection, particularly in Diabetics.

Nonoxynol-9 is a common spermacide.
It can also cause yeast infections and some people are allergic to it.

shiftyw -> RE: BDSM Allergies (6/24/2013 10:13:18 AM)

I can't use anything perfumed or scented, or lubes that have tastes, and I avoid peppers, ginger, etc. etc. because I have real sensitive girl parts. I wouldn't say I need to head to the ER, but I do need to head to the pharmacy often because of these things. I even have to use unscented/undyed laundry detergents. I have to clean our toys religiously (a good idea to do anyway, but I clean before AND directly after use). I can only use VERY specific soaps, and I am NEVER to douche, per my OB's instructions. Even in the vanilla world I had to be careful with condoms and lubes.

myotherself -> RE: BDSM Allergies (6/24/2013 11:09:13 AM)

I have an allergy to latex and some other plastics and rubbers. Unfortunately I don't know which plastics and/or rubbers I'm allergic to until I touch them. The reaction at its mildest is a case of 'nettle rash' (urticaria) which persists for about an hour if I use antihistamines straight away, or up to 8 hours without antihistamines. This rash is intensely itchy and has a burning pain, along with redness and blistering.

At its worst, I find my throat, mouth and tongue swell and I start to choke. At this point I need to use an epipen and get to the ER as quickly as possible. The first time this happened I was carrying a large bag of potting compost while wearing a sleeveless t-shirt. The plastic of the bag caused a huge urticaria rash immediately, and then the mouth/throat thing developed over a period of 5 minutes.

As a result I do not wear latex, I will not touch anyone who has touched latex (yes, that would cause a reaction), I won't use plastic toys internally or externally unless I've touched my skin with them to see if I have a reaction. I won't wear plastic clothing or boots/shoes and I cannot use spanking benches or other toys that have plastic or rubber coverings or restraints.

But then again, we rarely play in public and if we do, we use our own toys.

cutiewithabootie -> RE: BDSM Allergies (6/24/2013 11:41:02 AM)

Triple antibiotic ointments.

And flavored lubes.

These are not a particular bdsm allergy per say but non the less I have violent reactions to both so I make sure my Mistress is aware of it before play with a list of other allergies (drug allergies) just in case there is a need for ems.

Can you please define the difference between stainless steel and "surgical stainless steel". What alloys of stainless steel are considered surgical stainless steel by ASTM?

It seems that you are trying to say, and please correct me if I'm mistaken, is that nickel is what differentiates stainless steel from "surgical stainless steel". This would be inaccurate. One of the predominant stainless steels used by piercing jewelry manufacturers and often bandied about as being "surgical" or "implant grade" steel is 316LVM. 316LVM has roughly 14.5% nickel, one of the highest nickel contents of all stainless steels. There are many stainless steels that contain absolutely no nickel whatsoever. Why is it that those alloys are not used for piercing jewelry or medical implants?

surgical stainless steel, stainless steel and chrome / brass is NOT magnetic, so if a magnet can stick to your toy then it is chrome / iron.

Nonsense. Of the three classes of stainless steel (Austenitic, Ferritic and Martensitic), only Austenitic is non-magnetic.

It looks like the same.

Chrome finishes look nothing like stainless steel. If your chrome finished parts look like stainless steel, you need to fire your chromer.

I think it's safe to say that most of what you have said about metals above can safely be ignored, which considering you refer to yourself as "Master of Steel" is pretty fucking ironic, wouldn't you say?

nephandi -> RE: BDSM Allergies (6/24/2013 1:00:30 PM)

Greetings

I have a chromed dowsing pendulum and sure I can see that it is similar to steel and silver in how it looks, it have that type of look to it, but it do not look exactly like stainless steel, that is right.

I wish you well

This isn't true. The most common type of stainless steel is 304 which contains 8% nickel where as type 316 refered to as either surgical stainless steel or marine grade contains 10% nickel. There are actually quite a few different types of stainless steel some with no nickel in them whatsoever.

tazzygirl -> RE: BDSM Allergies (6/24/2013 2:09:26 PM)

What happened to 925?

Huh? Do you mean sterling silver?

hrxxx -> RE: BDSM Allergies (6/24/2013 5:57:08 PM)

316LVM ASTM F-138'-alloy acid resistant
Is considered as safe to use as surgical steel and implants.

304, 316, 904 and 254SMO
Is NOT considered safe to use as surgical steel or implants
My guess is they have found out that acid resistant does not emit as much nickel as NON acid resistant

If you disagree, I think you should discuss it with FDA and ASTM and not me

Austenitic is the most common steel you will find in your everyday life. Austenitic stainless steel. Constitute by far the largest amount (~ 80%) of stainless steel used. This makes it common in my book!
Yes ther is a lot of different stainless steel alloy, but you will not finde them in sex toy

Here is a picture it lasts longer.
If stainless steel is polished, then you can not tell the difference. After some time, the polished surface become dull and gray, stainless steel is difficult to hold than iron / chrome, but it lasts forever.

[image]http://s21.postimg.org/vigf7poef/15362.jpg[/image]

So my conclusion after I have answered your worthless wikipedia information, there are four types of stainless steel which is used in BDSM / Sex toys
Surgical steel safe
Stainless slål unsafe
Krome / iron very unsafe
Chrome / brass very unsafe

Can you show me, sex toy with nickel free steel? I would very much like a link to that, as i have never seen that before, and i would like to buy nickel free sex toy.

Have you seen some sex shops where they tell there are phthalates in the toys they sell?
It is puzzling to me that often they write just silicone or jelly, but not tell about harmful substances.

In Denmark are phthalates banned in ordinary toys, but not in sex toys, why it is forbidden in ordinary toys, is that you can developmentally impaired and brain-damaged.

SpiritedRadiance -> RE: BDSM Allergies (6/24/2013 6:34:23 PM)

Actually,

When bdsm was for the few people made their own LEATHER goods, and it was only metal smiths that did anything with metal, most did everything with leather, and its how the leather protocols have been handed down

I am allergic to morons who try to promote BDSM history with out knowing shit...

Im also allergic to fish and onions... and thankfully have no issues with anything bdsm related.
