I wasn't put under either. I had 3 that he had to break and pull out. I heard every last crunch. But never bothered me. I was hooked up to an IV and laughing gas. I'd totally do it again if I could. But I never had any problems like JAS or DS.

On a side note, I like flossing my teeth. Not because it gets them clean, that is a perk, I like feeling the string against my gums. I enjoy going to the dentist because they're usually even rougher with the floss.

I had my wisdom teeth done 1 side at a time when I was in the Army. The worst part was hearing the ripping-lolol.

FR-

I have had back pain off and on since my late-20s so i seem to have a high pain threshold.. when i have to go to the dentist I try to make it as easy as possible for them, I am quiet, when they say open WIDE, I do open as wide as i can.. I dont complain and rarely make a sound, & I dont fight them at all.. I figure the easier i make it for them, the faster I get outta there.. And since I have fragile teeth from grinding them in my sleep (I sleep with a night guard but damage has been done), I have had molars break in half and/or in bits cuz of all the tiny fractures.. and yeah the sound is horrible!

but its worse when the dentist tries to show you the long bloody root she just pulled out!!! ok, that part mighta been a little sadistic of her..

yeah, i have had some bad teeth with the dentist having to dig around a bit pulling broken bits out, but I just accept it and really, the dentists actually do appreciate that I am a good patient.. so I cant say any of the ones I have ever have were sadistic while working on my teeth.. but.. I have had female Doctors that were very freakin' sadistic when they were doing exams on my delicate girly bits.. man, never again will i have a female doctor..

I found this out with my first pregnancy. They required you to visit each doctor at the practice at least once. The two men were always gentle. The women...not so much.
Out of all the doctors and dentists I have seen, the men were always more gentler AND attentive. I always opt for a man when I can.

I had all four pulled at the same time by an oral surgeon. I got some sodium pentathol, so I was asleep for it - thank god. I had ice bags and pain pills for two days straight after that. Not the most pleasant experience in the world, but not the worst.

and my dentist believes in gas- if you want it. It costs $15 more, but well worth it for me.

I had all four pulled at the same time. They knocked me out with IV Valium. Not sure if there was anything else. I spent the night in the hospital. I was in the Air Force at the time, so this was free. I used the ice bags like in the pic below and don't remember my recovery being especially painful.

One of the worst parts, besides the pain was being so fucking hungry an not being able to eat anything, like you can think of tons of things you can blend up an eat but in the actuall moment you can't think of jack shit. I was so damned hungry I was gumming cookies to death with my front teeth an only my front teeth.

Not that hard: applesauce, cream soup, pudding, jello, protein shake, mac & cheese,

My wisdom teeth never came in so never had to go through that.

My only experience with bad dentists was when I was really young and we were on welfare. Back then I had to go to a free clinic where the dentists were trainees and not really dentists just yet. I had one who cut through one of my nerves in my bottom teeth and to this day I have problems with the tooth where the nerve was cut. I've had to have the tooth redone and eventually replaced.

Once I was able to pay for my own care, I became extremely picky about who I had as a dentist.

Same here. The worst part was that the swelling made my face look fat. This irked me because I'd recently dropped a fair bit of weight.

Love being canadian, it's free, youre protected, and the only issue I ever had getting out my wisdom teeth was the throbbing pain in my mouth as I tried to take less and less pain killers about a week or 2 later :P

actually, that is not true as each province decides what is covered by them and what isnt.. in BC dental is not covered unless you have additional insurance (which only covers part of the cost) or if you are on welfare..

Way back when, I worked construction. One of the guys on the crew was a biker named (this is so original) Wild Bill.
One night, Wild bill was minding his own business (RIIIIIIIIIGHT) and 2 guys jumped out of a car and hit him in the face with a baseball bat.
The ER just made sure he wasn't going to die and sent him on his way as he had no money or insurance. 2 days later, the side of his face looks like a grapefruit and he wants me of all damn people to pull 2 molars that are shattered. Why? "You been to college ain'tchya? You're the closest thing to a dentist I know"

1 Bottle of rum for antiseptic and anesthesia (and a coupla shots for the doctor)
1 pair x small channel locks padded with gauze
1 case of beer (my fee).

The extraction took place on a picnic table and consisted of "open up................don't you DARE bite me you SOB" scrunch, pull, clink, tug, clink. "Here, drink some more but swish it first."

voila. My first and only foray into dental surgery.

The patient was eternally grateful and healed with no complications.

Wow! Just like the old west. Hat tip for Hillwilliam!

All this tooth pulling just reminded me of the time when I was about 8 years old and I had a loose tooth from eating a candied apple when I was coming home from the local fair with my sisters.

I got home and was crying so my dad sat me down on a chair, took some dental floss, wrapped one end around my tooth, the other end on the bathroom doorknob and SLAM! My dad slammed the door shut and out came my tooth. Yeah, I think I would have rather put up with the loose tooth.

Never ever let crazy ass country bumpkin dads know you have anything wrong with you! You will either end up in more pain to begin with or drunk from the whiskey he thinks will cure anything!

I've always wondered why the teeth are split off from the rest of the body, insurance-wise.

It may be that people used to think it was natural to lose your teeth at a certain stage of age. "There's nothing wrong, you just don't have teeth." Now, I think many fewer folk think that.

But, it could just be me.

For what it's worth; i lived on yogurt, cottage cheese, chocolate pudding, and macaroni salad for weeks. Then, I added chopped meat (you can "chew" by pressing it against the roof of your mouth with your tongue) and tuna fish salad.

on 10 MAR 2012, I had 18 teeth removed so chewing wasn't an option for a while.

Peace and comfort,

Michael

dear gawd people, Im feeling all your pain and then some, I had horrible experiences as a kid, and adult, but when I had my wisdom teeth out with laughing gas, as he pulled one out, it flipped out of the forceps, hit the operating light above my face and hit the nurse right on the tit so hard she jumped back, spilling stuff all over the floor, I laughed so hard I peed myself, literally, I didnt stop laughing for five minutes, but I still hate the dentists.
I also had a needle go thru to the outside, while he was working on one of my front top four, the needle didnt go into the gum, it came up over the bone and came out in the crease of my nostril/top lip, I could see the needle ....freaked me right the hell out.
PS dental care is not free in Ontario,

That is a seriously good thing to wonder about. I read this and instantly started wondering to myself the same thing. My only guess is that it has got to have something to do with money. Quite the lucrative little racket insurance companies have going on by splitting up parts of our bodies and requiring us to have separate insurance for each.

If it were only the US I could agree, but dentistry in the UK and Canada is practically the same, not covered by health insurance, unless you buy "extra" or are on benefits of some kind and .... then it is hard to get hold of for anything but basic stuff.
