LittleGirlHeart -> Having my wisdome teeth cut out of my jaw, if i had known what it had been like (6/25/2013 6:08:51 AM)

I had all 4 out at one an they had not even come out, they had just developed an as they were waiting to break the gums and make their appearance, they started crowding my other teeth an the results were bad enough to see on x ray, so they said we have to yank them.

Well they had to cut them out and break them i couldn't wait for them to crown or what ever the hell you call it then pull, I was told that Western Dental did knock people out for having wisdom teeth ripped out an when I got to the procedure I was told no , sorry we do not do that but we do offer laughing gas, it's 65 dollars extra, your insurance doesn't cover it, and I was awake for every single agonizing crunch and crack and every sensation that went with that. There is absolutely no fucking way I'd ever go through that again or do it that way had I known now what I would have experienced. And as the laughing gas was making me woozy an out of it I became very terrified and started to cry from how scary the sensation was.

damned sadistic bastards

This post is because I came across a quote about sedation dentistry and I wanted to reply but it was over a year old.

There are times..

I had all four wisdom teeth out at once.

I could have been awake for it, but the "stress on the patient" is such that they would only do two at a time.

No-Brainer

I could regale you for hours with tales of my dental mishaps but, last year, I had an oral surgeon push one of his pointy tools through my left cheek after assuring me that there was no need for gas to be used during my procedure.

Fuck all dentists. I think they're all sadists ("Little Shop Of Horrors", anyone?).

Peace and comfort,

Michael

Dear god Michael, that's horrible, was it an accident? Did you sue, what happened?

It was an "accident" in that the surgeon was negligent and most oral surgeons tend to be a bit "heavy handed". The difference is: quite a few oral surgeons either learn how to pass gas or employ doctors/assistants that do.

I didn't sue. I'm not very big on court actions and I think we've become too litigious in this country to begin with.

What was a bit troubling was when my dentist told me I needed another procedure, three weeks later and said it would be the same oral surgeon, I said I wanted to be asleep and my dentist thought he knew better.

I couldn't go through with it (even after a Xanex). That was an ugly day.

Peace and comfort,

Michael

Dentists and oral hygienists are CIA torture masters in training.

from August 2010. i got the effin heebie jeebies just reading it just now!

Until today....tooth had to be pulled. Been there before, no biggie.

Well, it broke off and instantly turned into a surgical extraction. One root would send a shooting pain up behind my eyeball every time he tried to pull that part out. He gave me as much novacaone as he could-like 8 shots of it. The pain continued. He would pull til I screamed and moved his hand, then we would take a break and wipe the sweat and tears away.

I did learn that, as fat as I am, with the right motivation my knees can curl up to my head quite nicely and stay there for a long time. I am betting that tomorrow I have soreness in places I forgot I had. I just hope they are all below the waist and not in my jaw.

2 hours wrasslin a dentist, I am wore out. They told me not to smoke, like they did years ago when I got the otehr one pulled, so of course I fired one up before I got out of the parking lot, but I made sure the gauze was packed firmly and I barely sucked.

SO, I will never assume that anything is routine again. The tooth and the wicked lil root are all gone now. I am considering hitting the porch for some herbal therapy, and I would bet that poor dentist is on his 3rd gin and tonic by now......

Never in my life have I felt like such a pussy. I did natural childbirth to a baby with a 14 1/2 inch head and didn't even flinch, drove my self to the hospital when my gallbladder went out and whem I had an ovarian cyst burst, and have always considered my self to be one touogh high pain threshold mutha fukr.

My name is jstanothersub, and I am not tougher than a tooth root the size of a piece of rice.

My dentist always gives me the gas before pulling out my teeth. For some reason, the extractions are easy for me.

Had 2 of my wisdom teeth pulled out back in 1986 by the Army...just the shot was needed then but they had to split the second one because of the way it was coming in.

LittleGirlHeart -> RE: Having my wisdome teeth cut out of my jaw, if i had known what it had been like (6/25/2013 8:01:13 AM)

I just went to the dentist this last week an she told me one of my fillings on the cuslingual or what ever needed completely torn out and replaced, after 10 plus years of having it, it's crumbling.

I my be a big baby an request to be put out of my mind before I let them do that.

theshytype -> RE: Having my wisdome teeth cut out of my jaw, if i had known what it had been like (6/25/2013 8:45:54 AM)

I wasn't put under either. I had 3 that he had to break and pull out. I heard every last crunch. But never bothered me. I was hooked up to an IV and laughing gas. I'd totally do it again if I could. But I never had any problems like JAS or DS.

On a side note, I like flossing my teeth. Not because it gets them clean, that is a perk, I like feeling the string against my gums. I enjoy going to the dentist because they're usually even rougher with the floss.

MasterCaneman -> RE: Having my wisdome teeth cut out of my jaw, if i had known what it had been like (6/25/2013 8:47:38 AM)

I had all four pulled out too, back when I was 23 or 24. Hol-eee shit that hurt. I have a high tolerance for pain, but you're right about a piece of tooth the size of a grain of rice incapacitating you. For about two days I thought I was gonna die, and at least once I seriously considered giving myself a lead injection, but that would have required me to get up out of bed. Hope you're feeling better.

MsLadySue -> RE: Having my wisdome teeth cut out of my jaw, if i had known what it had been like (6/25/2013 8:59:03 AM)

This is what I call a timely subject.

I had four teeth pulled yesterday. Done under sedation (I'm a whoose) and thankfully they sutured all four so not likely to suffer with dry socket.

Things are a tad sore but mostly from tender spots on the inside of my mouth. The worst pain for me was the massive headache I had when I got out of bed later in the day.

The directions say not to smoke for 24 hours and the aftercare call I received an hour ago said 48 hours. Ya, like I'm going to get through 48 hours.

jlf1961 -> RE: Having my wisdome teeth cut out of my jaw, if i had known what it had been like (6/25/2013 9:03:33 AM)

I had two wisdom teeth pulled, and the roots of the other two cut out because I got kicked by a horse and they were broke off.

LittleGirlHeart -> RE: Having my wisdome teeth cut out of my jaw, if i had known what it had been like (6/25/2013 9:13:09 AM)

One of the worst parts, besides the pain was being so fucking hungry an not being able to eat anything, like you can think of tons of things you can blend up an eat but in the actuall moment you can't think of jack shit. I was so damned hungry I was gumming cookies to death with my front teeth an only my front teeth.

From my canine teeth back are all baby teeth.

My adult teeth are there, they just never came in. (I have no wisdom teeth)

They have been after me for years to pull all of the baby teeth. What has stopped me from doing that is this comment: "If we pull all your baby teeth, your adult teeth should come in on their own".

If they don't come in on their own, they would winch them into place, one by one.

MasterCaneman -> RE: Having my wisdome teeth cut out of my jaw, if i had known what it had been like (6/25/2013 9:49:21 AM)

Oh, that sounds like sooooo much fun. Not surprised you passed on that offer.

Yikes that sounds gruesome, I see why you declined that offer.

I had one remaining baby tooth that never came out, there was no adult tooth beneath it and eventually it got chipped so I had it removed. I also have no wisdom teeth, but considering how many people have problems with them I count that as a blessing.

~FRing it~

I swear I must be a closet masochist or something, but going to the dentist hasn't ever bothered me. Had all 4 wisdom plus one front tooth killed in a roller skating accident (faces and hardwood floors don't mix) pulled at the same time under twilight anesthesia and nitrous...and I felt awesome. Yeah, the tree branch cracking sound was unnerving, but the gas and the IV dope had me not really giving a rip. I've had 4 teeth since then all pulled with no gas (bummer) and only novocaine...still wasn't too bad.

Hillwilliam -> RE: Having my wisdome teeth cut out of my jaw, if i had known what it had been like (6/25/2013 12:47:43 PM)

Way back when, I worked construction. One of the guys on the crew was a biker named (this is so original) Wild Bill.
One night, Wild bill was minding his own business (RIIIIIIIIIGHT) and 2 guys jumped out of a car and hit him in the face with a baseball bat.
The ER just made sure he wasn't going to die and sent him on his way as he had no money or insurance. 2 days later, the side of his face looks like a grapefruit and he wants me of all damn people to pull 2 molars that are shattered. Why? "You been to college ain'tchya? You're the closest thing to a dentist I know"

1 Bottle of rum for antiseptic and anesthesia (and a coupla shots for the doctor)
1 pair x small channel locks padded with gauze
1 case of beer (my fee).

The extraction took place on a picnic table and consisted of "open up................don't you DARE bite me you SOB" scrunch, pull, clink, tug, clink. "Here, drink some more but swish it first."

voila. My first and only foray into dental surgery.

The patient was eternally grateful and healed with no complications.

DesFIP -> RE: Having my wisdome teeth cut out of my jaw, if i had known what it had been like (6/25/2013 1:15:56 PM)

I never agree to them working on all four quadrants at once. Right or left, not both folks.

I had IV Valium for my wisdom teeth removal. But when I had osseos surgery, reshaping the jaw bone for periodontal problems, all I had were 15 shots of novocaine into the palate. Only the first one hurt.
