Very sweet, thanks for sharing. I get pretty excited if I see something as big as a fox or a badger, it's hard to imagine something as big as a moose wandering around by the garden fence.

They can become used to people in the sense that they don't necessarily charge anybody and everybody. It's impossible to know what will provoke them. They do charge if you don't keep your distance. (The very reason the shots were taken from so far away.) They've been known to chase cars in some cases.

Yes, they do cause a lot of property damage. If she had been angered, I don't think the fence would have been too much of an obstacle for her. They are also famous for getting into people's yards and taking down young trees that people have planted. Vehicle vrs moose is a serious concern. They have more incidents out toward the Anchorage/Wasilla area than we seem to have on Highway #2 on the stretch from here to Fairbanks but there are enough accidents to keep a person mindful of them. Particularly true for night driving.

If you don't mind, Ken, I've asked the other half to drop you a note on changing the size of the pics. I'm awful at it to the point of giving up.

ETA - By the way, folks, I did make a mistake last night about directing people to the profile to look at the pic. I didn't put up a warning about the play shots that are also on My profile. I'm sorry if anybody got offended or saw something they didn't want to see. I usually mention it when I've got needle shots up there. I overlooked that last night when I posted and I apologize.

In the case of newer posters, peon, that may not necessarily be true. It absolutely was an oversight on My part.

Yes, the do get rather large. When I originally started reading about them, I found articles that said a bull can get up to 1400 lbs (roughly 636 KG for you). Since then, I've found a couple of pages that will say they can weigh up to 1500 lbs (roughly 682 KG). When they are born, they are in the 25-35 lbs (span in KG 11.4 - 15.9).

Since I grew up in an area that has other types of deer, rather than moose, I'm still surprised at how big they get.

I still can't get over how long and bulbous their noses are. No other critter I'm familiar has that. Always looks so odd to me, like a mistake was made in its DNA/creation.

I think most Brits would convert that into stones rather than either pounds or Kgs, LP. In which case: a hundred stone? Geez H. That is *not* petite!

Yep. Admirable animals in many ways, but not pretty. Disney wouldn't have made a feature animation about a loveable baby moose called 'Bambi', I suspect.

That's the thing. They are so ugly that they are cute. Their legs don't look like they would support them at all. The little ones are especially gangly looking.

Ken, thank you. Again. I'll have MP send a note. Thanks to the others who offered to help. (I've often thought that I should approach poise about being on retainer.)

I'll have to brush up on converting to stone, peon. I'm used to the 2.2 formula. It's been a few years but if I remember right, there were moose in the "Brother Bear" flicks that Disney produced. Of course, there was a bit of poetic license there. Male moose don't often get along. They are more likely to be challenging each other during mating season.
