Some are better than others...my three favorites are:

Never treat someone as a priority if they treat you as an option

How is that working for you?

Great slaves are made by great relationships

I think these three sum up one hell of a lot of wisdom.

Platitudes or words of wisdom?

Actions speak louder than words.

I hate this one most of all, because I love words and am very susceptible to the right ones. But this platitude has proven to be the most brutally useful one of all for me. I swear by (and at) it.

Well this works fine for me.

Do not expect that I will agree with you on something I consider to be paranoia and insanity.

I have to realize that against stupidity even the gods struggle in vain.

The universe gives you not what you want, but what you need.

And more pointedly; the only common denominator in all your relationships is you.

Plus: repeating things while expecting a different result is the definition of insanity.

These are great ones. The Rolling Stones came up with the first one

I like this thread; even though I know all of the platitudes I can always use to see them in my face again, preferably repeatedly.

"It is what it is."

What the feck does that mean? Does it mean anything at all? What could the 'it' in that phrase possibly be other than what it *is*?

I've sometimes quoted the line and replied where I've seen it in a given thread, with just the comment "No it isn't" - simply to see if the person who's said it will argue with me. They never have.

Good luck with that.

Never make someone a priority when you're an option.

How's that working for you?

Actions speak louder than words.

I agree that is a bit trite and empty, because I feel the reverse holds a greater truth.

"Great relationships are made by great slaves!"

I abhor platitudes ( I find them falsely sincere, wildly unhelpful, and full of fake bonhomie, as if I'd died and gone to Hallmark) so I'm not really the guy to talk. That said, from time to time, there is something to be said for faking it til ya make it
