I think the reason we're struggling to give you the answers is because it's like asking 'what's the difference between a red car, and a car'. All red cars are cars, just not all cars are red

Athena said it best.

Yuck. I am not fond of people using the term subbie to describe me.
As the others have said FLR is no different from other subsets of D/s

I'm a little curious as to why the op wants to know about romantic relationships when her profile is clear that she just wants sub guys to give her money and nothing else.

Just curiosity in general from something you read? Then link us to what you read so we can get a sense of what they meant.

I think a FLR is just a D/s relationship with the dom being female. Not sure why the need to come up with another label. I don't think it makes one relationship any more "true" than another.

MissSinfulCyn,
I'm sorry I'm late to this thread, and I hope you're still around and following the thread.

As others have mentioned, FLR's are just a subset of D/s. Not counting poly relationships, there are essentially 4 types of D/s relationships:
1) M/f (Male Dom/female sub)
2) M/m (Male Dom/ male sub)
3) F/m (Female Dom/male sub)
4) F/f (Female Dom/female sub)

Technically, both 3 & 4 are FLR's. However when people talk about FLR's, they are typically only referring to scenario #3.

Because in standard vanilla relationship the male is generally considered the "head of household", FLR's are considered to be unusual.

BTW, not every D/s situation with a male sub and female Dom is an FLR. There can be play partner situations, or service sub situation wherein the female is dominant, but it isn't a FLR. The key is typically the existence of a romantic relationship between the two parties.

I usually keep my profile hidden. However, since I typically engage in FLR's, I will unhide it temporarily so you can read it. In my profile, I provide a detailed description of an FLR (or at least my version of an FLR).

I hope this helps.
-Roch

Edit: Oops! I just noticed that Missokyst already provided the 4 types of D/s relationships. I guess I should have read page 2 of the thread before replying. Sorry about that.

Btw, please let me know when you have looked at my profile so I can rehide it. I'm not looking right now, so I prefer to keep my profile hidden. Thanks.
