Would you rather discuss knitting tea-poseys?

What the hell's wrong with knitting tea-poseys? What makes you think it's easy? or somehow not important? You pompous self-important types looking down your nose at tea-posey knitters like you are somehow better than people who take their time to make a contribution to the world! I'll have you know I come from a long line of tea-posey knitters and we have a PROUD heritage! I'm just SICK of this kind of persecution!!!!!

Oh, you naughty girl marie, for stirring up my thread. That was freaking hilarious.

I agree with you though. I think some people do just for the shock value.

Like a girl wearing revealing clothes just to get attention. My problem is when she gets pissed off when she gets that attention.

While I don't think I am controversial,  I do have opinions, and ideas which I feel are well-thought out (or I wouldn't share them with the world).  I often don't bother to post in a topic where My view will be a repetitive, re-worded response of the 12 previous posters... by then the OP probably has a good idea of the general consensus.

When topics arouse different viewpoints is where creativity, passion, and diverse, well thought out, viewpoints merge; it's where everyone can learn something.  These boards would be of little interest if we all said the same thing over, and over and over again.

DISCLAIMER: THIS IS NOT A PERSONAL ATTACK ON ANYONE

I'm wondering if people post controversial topics just to get attention, both good and bad.

I am positive they do to some degree but of course many controversial topics are often ones which none have postsed or discussed either for some time or at any length. These are great for it is good to get away from topice which are basic or advise seeking and get teeth into something more meety and close to the edge of peoples likes, dislikes and beliefs. In doing so it is excelent to challange or be challanged and made to defend the likes. dislikes or beliefs... Heh Goreans get plenty of this too (Ok so we probably bring it on ourselves but there are a few folk who just apparently enjoy trying to shit on people's beliefs or lifestyles......

I've not knitted a quilt since I was a kid home from school with pnumonia and pluresy. Could we talk about 9C Irish calligraphy and Document Illumination (Both a-la Book of Kells) instead?

I stay out of the flame threads, they are pointless and useless to me, and they go no where.

OH document illumination is beautiful, but you don't see it often.  It's like in really old or fancy Bibles or dictionaries where they make the first letter of the page or of the paragraph really large and draw all sorts of lovely squigglies and designs around it.

Does that help?  I could probably find an example on google.

Im sure your right. But what's to say, your not doing exactly that now?
I prefer the reading of posts, to say that dreadful world of chat rooms! Controversial or not. I learn from here. I learn a lot about another from what they display themselves as in their posts.
If im interested in someone. I can read EVERY goddamn post they ever made, when they felt great, when the felt not so great, generally, a theme runs through them, that is the essence of the person. Very telling over time.
Welcome to controversial land.
enjoy

In my case, I kinda specialize in the venal.  I don't see any reason to fight over the fact that they are really tea cozys.....to keep it warm, tea poseys would go in a flower pot......

See?  Thats just stupid when I say that; but a venal here and a venal there and we can heighten the tension
to acceptable levels...........

One of the most interesting books I have ever read, and I have read alot, discusses this issue.  The book is called "The Celestine Phrophecy" by James Redfield.  The issue is the four basic styles that people receive energy.
#1 The poor me
#2 The aloof
#3 The interrogator
#4 The intimidator

As we all know attention comes in many forms, when starved for it, the negative is just as good as any.  As I have posted many times, this is my opinion and my opinion alone, not to influence or discourage any one else's opinion.

oh, no, i can assure you that people don't every ever ever post controversial topics to get attention. they post controversial topics to cook lunch. sometimes to wash dishes. but attention ?! nevah.

what people do to attract attention, both good and bad, is use purple fonts.

What's really amusing, is that the topic title itself  comes across as a plea for attention.

Rather than reffering to people who post for attention- I read it as asking for the attention of all posters.

Probably not, but don't you know, i'm trying to draw attention to myself in the disguise of a post about people who draw attention to themselves
