I watched the marathon most of the day too. I loved watching Twilight Zone with my dad when I was a kid.

There were always three that stood out for me.

"It's a Good Life"- the one where the little boy as the power to do anything he wants. He doesn't like it when anyone does something he doesn't like or doesn't like him so he "sends them to the cornfield". Everyone is afraid of him so they always do everything they can to make him happy but some just crack and he makes them disappear. It always reminded me of some people that I know and how everyone is afraid of that person to the point where they do just like in the story.

"Stopover in a Quiet Town"- a couple ends up in a strange town and have no idea how they ended up there only to find that everything is fake. Toward the end, a girl picks them up in her hands. Turns out the girl is an alien and her father captured the girl's "pets" while on a trip to Earth. It was the first time I had ever really gave serious thoughts about God and reality.

"The Eye of the Beholder"- a woman is given a facial reconstruction because we are told she is ugly. We never get to see the faces of anyone until the bandages come off and her looks have not changed. She's still "ugly" while everyone else is what is considered normal and beautiful...a pig face. She looks like a human. She is taken to live in a community with others who look like she does because they're considered an abomination. I just always found it kind of a funny episode of how the show chose for everyone to look like pigs.

Because I was so young when I started watching The Twilight Zone, it really helped me to shape the way I viewed things and gave me things to think about...the how's and whys of society and why we are the way we are. It was a time when I was able to finally sit down with my dad and have philosophical discussions about life.

Watching the marathon today really brought back those memories for me with my dad who I miss since he passed away many years ago.

He made a sequel in the 90's version of Zone

Was it really Bill Mumy? I didn't realise he did a sequel, I'll have to chase that up!

I agree with termy, I like the Outerlimits over TwilightZone but both are great.
I can remember the TwilightZone movie when there was a monster on the wing of the plane, apart from that I'm very hazy on individual episodes... I could rattle off a lot of outerlimits faves though.

OuterLimits was too scary for me when I was a kid, but I did sneek in a few episodes. I remember one vividly where a new lab assistant to a botanist turned out to be a queen bee. Given her hairstyle and her makeup I was not surprised.
I wish I could find that show now. If I watch it very early in the AM it might not work its way into my dreams.
lol I love to be scared or unnerved but I also hate it.

And I guess we shouldn't be surprised that 1000's went up before they knew more about them...curiosity overruling thoughtful reason.

I think in many cases Twilight Zone was more about us, Outer Limits...more about 'them.'

I am not totally sure but fairly certain that Twilight Zone was William Shatner's first real prime time role.

That depends upon how you define "real" he did quite a few things in which he had small (2-3 episode) story arcs and he was on one of those weekly "SOME COMPANY PRESENTS" shows early on, also.

I think it's the role where he really developed his incredible over-acting style and that's why it stands out so much.

His first real prime time acting gig was on "Howdy Doody" as Ranger Bob.

Yes, it was Billy Mumy, and Cloris Leachman was in it and Billy Mumy's daughter was his daughter in the episode. Really a great sequel I thought.

I also liked

The Shelter - considering this was the height of the cold war this was a really interesting episode.

An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge - rarely seen episode for some reason, but one of the best - about a man from the Confederacy about to be hanged by Union Soldiers.

Ceasar and Me - Ventriloquists still creep me out.

Most of my other favorites were already listed, but these are worth mentioning. There was another one I can't remember the name of it - where a man wakes up in the morning and realizes he doesn't understand what anyone is saying, it starts out gradually, but then everyone to him is speaking gibberish. Does anyone know the name of it?

My favourites are The Hitchhiker, One More Pallbearer, and The Masks. I also recently watched Valley of the Shadow and really loved it.

All ventriloquist episodes are creepy.
I decided to check on the TZ episode list to see if I could find the one you mentioned but could not find any reference.

Not all outerlimits are scary they have sci fi some episodes make you think, I remember one "feel good" one, they are all over the place.

I think I am wired for fear and excitement. I find a lot of things scary and when I dare, I do/watch them. It is a lifetime pattern of challenging fear within me. The odd thing is that no matter how many times I see or do something I never lose my fear of it. So then I have to challenge it again. I think it is this trait that makes me a masochist. All I know is that I am one of the only people I know who trained myself in what to do should a kidnapper grab me, a rapist attack me, and other senarios most children do not consider. Fear is terrifying and exciting all at once.
Thankfully not all those episodes were scary on twilight zone either. I loved the santa claus ones best.

Thanks for starting this thread, the TwilightZone is surely worthy of a thread by itself.

I think for me, it brings back childhood memories when you got about 8 channels on the t.v. and watching the t.v. was a big deal.

I didn't realize so many enjoyed the Twilight Zone like I do.
Its an oldie but goodie.

Twilight Zone was always my favorite show. I have seen all of them many times and they never get old.

I agree - and I think its amazing after over 50 years the stories still work. Yes, they are dated of course and the "special effects" were nearly non existent, and the budget was very small. It just proves that when you have a good story it works.
